I am looking for information on Louis V Masterson. He was a farmer in the area in the 1870's. Married to Maranda Atwood and they had 5 children. I beleive he passed away before 1880 because Maranda and the children were living in Hannibal by than. Also would like info on James and Lydia McNutt. I believe they also moved to Hannibal with her daughter Maranda. Thanks so much.

Have a great day!

Lydia Ann Rothwell, wife of Jabes Rothwell left Young County, Texas in 1901 to move to California to be near her son, Robert Rothwell. In 1914, she appears in Iberia, Missouri.

Her husband died in Young County and is buried at the County seat. I'm looking for more information on Lydia. I know Lydia died in Iberia, Miller Co., MO on 15 Feb 1924. I know she had the following sons: William W. Rothwell, Francis "Frank" S. Rothwell and Robert Johnathan Rothwell. I know all of the family were born in Ohio.

Dorman Holub
Chairman, Young County Historical Commission

Don, I was lost on John Roark too, I finally found his father, the information I found links him to a Levi Roark who was born about 1788 some say in NC others say VA. Levi passed in 1855 in Olean MO. The only connection I could find to Levi, was in Orange county NC, to a William Roark. I am 80% sure that these connections are right, but I am still researching to be sure. Hope this helps ya. Roy Roark

My GGrandmother is buried there and we have visited the cemetery the last 2 years to place flowers on her grave. Our family records state that she was buried in the Roark Burial Grounds in Cole County. The sign on AA now calls it the Proctor-Roark Cemetery. My GGrandmother was Nancy Jane (Melton) Henderson, Burk, Miller. There is a headstone there.

I've never heard the Roark Cem. near Russellville called Proctor-Roark Cem. although there are Proctors buried there and several Proctors have graciously helped maintain it over the years.

It is located about 4 miles south of Russellville on AA Hy. It is on private property on the east side of AA and a marker has been placed on AA at the farmhouse entrance.

Robert Martin 1870 census Miller County, MO

I am trying to clear up confusion about Robert Martin. Robert Martin married Elizabeth Zumwalt Thomas in Boone County, MO in 1862. Elizabeth had previously been married to William Thomas and had one son, James Henry Thomas. In 1870 Census MO, Miller, Osage Robert S. Martin has spouse as Susan age 32 born MO with older children (Eliza C 19, Lucy A 16, Samuel Z 14) then Robert 7, Meredith M.5 (male) and Mary J. 3. In February of 1874 Henry M. Thomas is made guardian of the heirs of Elizabeth Martin nee Zumwalt. These include Robert Martin, Meredith Martin, and Mary Martin. I assume that Elizabeth Zumwalt has died and Robert has remarried. In 1880 Robert and Susan appear in Miller County, MO with Meredith age 15 and Dulcima age 7. Robert Martin, son of Robert and Elizabeth I believe is in Elizabeth's sisters home in 1880 (Sarah Birdsong). James H. Thomas is in that same household in 1870. Any help sorting this family out would be appreciated.

Sue,

The 1860 census shows only one Lewis family..they live near John O. Carlton and Telitha. I believe this to be her family. Head of household is James Lewis 51 VA. Wife Catherine 40 VA, John 23, Elijah 21, Rhoda J. 18, Nancy 16, Michael H. 13, Rebecca C. 12, Rosanna 10, (all VA) Robert 9 MO, Thomas 6 MO, Mary 6 MO, Martin H. MO.

Rather than redo this..I checked the 1850 census and found them in Scott Co. VA..James and Catherine are both 32..:)but it is the right family. Next door is a Thomas Lewis 62 no wife.

I rarely get on here, you can email me at pearose2@aol.com

Hello. I'm interested in Messersmith and Barnhart, how they tied in with Abbott. At this point I did not know of family relations. I recognize messersmith in the history research I've done. I'm a descendent of John and Elizabeth Abbott and am especially interested in my ancestor line.
I've spent most of this weekend with the Zumwalt research. Lots of history!
All I've on your posting is that Elizabeth and James are living with their mother Phoebe "Zumalt" in Equality Twsp. of Miller County in 1860, making me think William P. Thomas is already deceased. The document of 1874 you mentioned I've studied alot. It reads that Elizabeth is deceased then.
I hope this helps. If you find the death of Phoebe or Mary Jane Zumwalt, or especially William Abbett, let me know. I've lost all trace of the mentioned Zumwalts after 1874 so if you find where they moved, that would be helpful also. Thanks

There were 2 Manassah Catrons, 1834-1926 buried at Hawkins Cemetery and 1896-1962 buried at New Hope Cemetery. I don't know which was the preacher but would guess it was the elder (grandfather to the younger) since he was buried so close to Brumley. There are also Catrons buried in the Gott and Iberia Cemeteries. You can find several family references at www.millercountymuseum.org
Nancy T.

Berhorst.

As a married couple, they first appear in the 1930 census. My Grandpa Ben is listed here as Bennie L. Due to the fact that they are living in separate households from their parents in 1920, I will also include their 1920 census here. (If you need 1920 and 1930 census for these people, then email me at shrinerfamilytree@yahoo.com)

6. I was able to not only meet my Great Grandparents, but really get to know them. I remember my Great Grandma Anna the most out of all my Great Grandparents. She died the January before my son was born in December. If she would have made it one more year, then she would have met her Great-Great Grandson.
(If you need 1930 census for these people, then email me at shrinerfamilytree@yahoo.com)

Generation No. 4

8.
John Wiginton & Elizbeth Lawson

John Wiginton born abt. 1780 was one of the early settlers to Miller County from East Tennessee. He married Elizabeth Lawson (born 1813) in McMinn Co., TN on Oct. 1, 1838. Elizabeth was supposedly a daughter of David Lawson also of East Tenn. Elizabeth had a daughter previously named Polly born 1836 in TN. Polly married William Walker Nov. 3, 1851 in Miller Co., MO. they had children: John R., Sarah E., and Eliza J. Walker. Polly then might have married a Peter Coy, but can't find them. John and Elizabeth Wiginton had one daughter together named Sarah S. Wiginton born 1848. Nothing further is known about her. Elizabeth died shortly after 1850. John Wiginton got a land grant in 1859 in Equality township, probably to help his daughters after he was gone as he was in his 70's by then. John Wiginton performed as a Minister of the Gospel at this time also. If anyone can help me find out what happened to the children and grandchildren I would appreciate any info. Also if anyone has any more info as John Wiginton as a preacher I would love to have that info as well. John must have died shortly after 1860 census and I would like to find out what happened to the land he was granted in 1859.
