Phillip Ponder, well known farmer and
stockman of south Miller County, died at
his home a few miles east of Iberia Thurs-
day, May 13th, at the age of 87 years, 7
months and 7 days. He had been in failing
health for a number of months.

Mr. Ponder had been married twice, and
was the father of a large family of children,
among them being Mrs. James Earp of near
Iberia, Lewis Ponder, of Ulman, Freeman of
Lebanon, Rafe of the state of California, Mrs.
Clara Cross of Hancock, Mrs. Emma Martin
of Dixon, Mrs. Polly Barnett of Hancock, Mo.
and Jerry of Jefferson City. Besides these
and others whose names are not reported, he
is survived by his wife and a host of other
relatives and friends.

Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Bowden
of Dixon, were held at the Atwell Church Friday
and interment made in the cemetery at that place.

PHILLIP RAYFORD Ponder

Phillip RAYFORD Ponder was born in Cape Girardeau
County, Mo., Sept 26, 1849. He came to Miller Co.
with his parents when two years old. He died May 13,
1937, being at the time of his death, 87 years, 7 months,
and 17 days old.

On Sept. 5, 1871 he was united in marriage to Miss
Tiny Skaggs and to this union was born six children,
namely; Florence Shackelford who preceded him in
death; Freeman Ponder, Lebanon, Mo.; Oscar Ponder,
who preceded him in death; RAYFORD Ponder, San
Francisco, Calif.; Jerry Ponder, Jefferson City, Mo.;
and Ellen Berry, Dixon.

About the year 1886 his first wife died, and on
Dec. 5, 1887 he was united in marriage to Lillie
Kellison, and to this union was born seven children;
Olllie Ponder, who preceded him in death; Otto
Ponder, Hancock, Mo.; Bertha Earp, Iberia, Mo.;
Lewis Ponder, Ulman, Mo.; Clara Cross, Hancock,
Mo.; Emma Martin, Dixon, Mo.; Polly Barnett,
Hancock, Mo.

He had lived all his life on a farm near Iberia, Mo.
as a farmer and stockman. Several years ago he
united with the Christian Church and two years ago
he moved his membership to the Advent Christian
Church of Atwell, Mo. and lived a devoted Christian
life until the end.

He leaves to mourn his death a loving wife, 10
children, 51 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren,
three brothers and one sister, namely; Oscar
Ponder, Conway, Mo.; George Ponder, Iberia, Mo.;
Frank Ponder, Crocker, Mo.; and Mary Skaggs,
Iberia, Mo.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Miles
Bowden at the Atwell Church and interment was made
in the cemetery at that place.
