Catherine "Kate" Lippard

I am seeking information on the LIPPARD family in the state of Illinois (in or around Morgan County, Meredosia & Jacksonvile) during the 1820-1850 time frame.

After many years of uncertainty within the family, I finally located my Gx2 Grandmother, Catherine or Kate LIPPARD in Morgan County, Illinois in 1850. She was born on-29 September 1836 in Illinois to parents of GERMAN heritage.

Her descendancy was always a mystery, and although she was finally located, there were no additional clues as to her parents and possible siblings. She is found in the 1850 census living with a physician and his wife, next door to another physician (William J. Wackerle.) Her eventual relationship with the Wackerle family is known, as he (Dr. W.J. Wackerle) married Susan F. Anderson. Susan Anderson had a younger brother: John Marshall Anderson, who eventually married Kate LIPPARD (probably on 21 October 1857 in Morgan County.)

After marriage, the family is well documented in records, and much of their story is known. By 1870, the young family had moved to Lincoln, County, Missouri - and lived there until 1881.

It is thought that Kate LIPPARD had a sister, but her name is unknown and she has not been located within any census so far.

Given the fact that Kate was only 14 in the 1850 census and living with another family, chances are good that something happened to her parents.

If someone has any information on this family, I'd love to exchange information.

~ Thanks!

This book is a historical account of the settlers of Lincoln County surrounding the war of 1812...it has many surnames surrounding early settler...it is a fascinating read....I read it cover to cover and was left amazed....check it out:

“Out of Many Waters” Now Available

http://cslasater.wordpress.com/

Joseph Howdeshell grows to manhood in the sparsely settled Virginia county of Kentucky before it becomes a state. He learns early that to stay alive, a man must be hard working, wary, and never far from his weapon. He has respect for the Indian but often finds himself tested against the strength and ferocity of the Native American. The frontier keeps expanding ever westward, and in 1811 he moves his family to the territory of Missouri only to find himself immersed in catastrophic upheavals of nature and horrors of Indian atrocities during the War of 1812.

Greetings all. I am researching the Elliott family of Missouri, and found that George H. Elliott married a Miss Adelisa Hitt. Have no birth information for either one of these people, but their two known children were: Jefferson Davis "Jeff" Elliott b: 15 May 1861, and Henry Lee Elliott, B: 2 Jan 1863. Most likely the boys were born in or around Lincoln County, Missouri. I also strongly suspect that prior to moving to Missouri, both the Hitt and Elliott families may have lived in or near Fauquier County, Virginia.

If anyone has more information on them, I'd greatly appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks...
Owings, Owing, Owens, Owen and Johnson families of Sullivan, IN, & Lincoln, MO

I am looking for information on two OWINGS families (sometimes spelled OWEN, OWENS, OWING).

1st Family: The first is the Ephraim and Sarah Owings family of Sullivan, Indiana. He was born about 1833 in MO. Ephraim married a Sarah Unknown (possibly Sarah Johnson), She was born in Indiana in about 1835. Ephraim and Sarah had a daughter named Missouri F Owings, born about 1857 in Missouri. This family is found in the 1850 and 1860 Censuses for Sullivan County, Indiana (IN).

My question about this family is this: Who is the Sarah Unknown that Ephraim married? Was it Sarah Johnson? Is this the Sarah Johnson who was the daughter of Hugh Johnson, who was the son of William Johnson, both of whom died in Sullivan County, Indiana? What happened to this family?

2nd Family: The second family is the Elias and Sarah Owings family. This family can be found in the 1850 Census for Lincoln County, Missouri (MO). Elias was born about 1815 in Kentucky (KY). He is married to a Sarah Unknown (possibly Sarah Johnson), who was born about 1827 in Indiana (N). They have several children, including Nancy J, Sarah F, Mary A, Alfred, and Elias. Living with this family in the 1850 Census for Lincoln County, MO, is a Alfred Johnson, possibly the son of Hugh Johnson and grandson of William Johnson, both of whom died in Sullivan County, Indiana.

Can anyone clear up this mystery for me? Can anyone tell me the maiden names of these two Sarah Owings? Can anyone tell me who the parents of these two Sarahs are? I don't think that the two Sarahs are the same person, given that Ephraim and Sarah Owings family lived in Sullivan County, Indiana, in 1850, while the Elias and Sarah Owings family was living in Lincoln County, MO, in 1850.

Best Wishes,
Jay T Stokes
Nancy Ann also had a sister, Dorthuelo Jane Reeds, who married Samuel L. Jameson, 05/17/1870. Nancy Ann passed in 1892 and is buried at Cornerstone Cemetery, west of Whiteside, Missouri. I visited the cemetery last summer and noticed that someone had replaced the old stones with new ones for most of the Colbert family. I am not sure but some speculate that Nora Colbert Gaw had them replaced before she passed in January 2000. Nora was the granddaughter of John Douglas and Nancy. They were my great-great-grandparents on my father's side.-- SCol844961

Descendants of William Dudley Reeds

1 William Dudley Reeds	1825 - 1857	b: 1825 in Montgomery County , Ky, of Henry Co., Ky	d: 10/11/1857 in Pike Co., Missouri
. +Catherine P.
Thank you for the information regarding Dorothy Jane (Dorthulia) REEDS parents. I have made the correction and will be updating the website soon. I am curious as to where you got the information on Dorothy and Samuel's daughter Dorthulia J. Jameson 1876 - 1904. I have seen the 1900 census for them and there is no daughter listed on it. In fact, it states that they have never had a child.

LuAnn

I'm currently researching Elijah Anderson and Fannie Browning/Mary McHugh of Lincoln or Morgan County, Missouri.

They were natives of Virginia, Elijah being of English and the Fannie of Scotch descent. Sometime after the 1843 death of Fannie, Elijah Anderson marrried his second wife, Mary McHugh, thought to be a Missouri native.

Their daughter, Susan F. Anderson, was born in Fauquier County, Va., June 30, 1825 and was married in 1843 in St. Louis, Missouri to Dr. William J. Wackerle. They raised their family in Morgan County, Illinois.

Between 1831 and 1835 they moved to Lincoln or Morgan County, Mo., settled on a farm, and resided there until their deaths. Fannie (Browning) Anderson died in 1843, and Elijah Anderson died in January, 1888, at the age of ninety-four years.

From A HISTORY OF MORGAN COUNTY AND SOME OF ITS PEOPLE BY
A.G. BAKER, Editor of the VERSAILLES STATESMAN VERSAILLES, MISSOURI, 1907-17, Elijah is found in Township 43, Range 17: February 3rd, 1831, Elijah Anderson, east half northwest section 7.

Little else is known about the family of Elijah Anderson and I am hoping to correspond with anyone having more information on this them.

I added this to the previous post since it is now in question whether they lived in Lincoln or Morgan Counties.

Thanks ~
Fannie (Browning) Anderson died in 1843, and Elijah Anderson died in January, 1888, aged ninety-four years.

The only child (identified so far) born to them was Susan Fannie Anderson on 30 June 1825 in Fauquier County, Va.

Miss Susan Fannie Anderson married Dr. William J Wackerle
(B:23 Feb 1819 Baden, Germany) on 19 Feb 1843, in St. Louis, Mo.

They had 6 children, 5 of whom lived, namely:

William F.
Hello, I found your post today while I was looking for information on Hardin Davis and Mary Winn Davis. I'll copy the first part here as it was a while ago that you made the post.....(Samuel W. Bailey was my grandfather. His son, Samuel Benteen Bailey, my father, was born in October 1897and raised in Elsberry, attended the St. Joseph Veterinary College, married my mother Stella Winn Brown also of Elsberry and daughter of Joseph Walker Brown and Mary Elizabeth Davis (also both of Elsberry)

Any way, your mother was my grandfather's (James Ray Brown) sister.

So I'm just connecting to say hi and maybe hoping that you have some information to share. My Dad (James Ray Brown, Jr) did start a bit of research on the family but it's my understanding that he got stuck on Hardin Davis also. My email address if you'd like to contact me outside of this post is bbrown4@tampabay.rr.com

I hope to hear from you, kindly, Brenda Brown

Yes...when I was there a few years ago I could not find the Watts Cemetery. Apparently it is behind the Nursery in New Hope. I was hoping to find the graves of William Thomas Watts who died the 2 Mar 1851 and his wife Nancy Wommack Watts who died and is buried there 4 Nov 1851. It has been recorded that they are buried there.
Also there may be Garrett Watts, William's brother, who i don't have a death date but died about 1846. His wife was Sarah Dalton Watts who died in New Hope in 1841. I would be interested in any other Watts in the cemetery as they would most likely be children of these brothers. How close do you live?
Lori
