VMWP,

Thanks for the reply and the leads - I'll contact the Historical Society shortly and see what they can do for me.

This line of Bolands is, as far as I know, seperate from most of the others in Missouri. I also noted a mass of Bolands, but they're all of Irish descent. My particular line is of German descent. I haven't found much on this line on Ancestry, unfortunately.

I am from Warrensburg, JohnsonCo, MO and will be there in Sept for 1955 class reunions. I went to school with George Boland and this family had a store in downtown Warrensburg and I can check the library there in Warrensburg or you can contact the Johnson County Historical Library (via internet or phone) to see if they have any info on the Boland Family. This library has some family books given to them by the families. Think George was 1 to 2 years younger and I am almost 76. The library can be reached at 660-747-6480. Directory is Lisa's her e-mail is curator@jocomohistory.org go to www.jocomohistory.org to see the site and pictures etc. One Boland was a car dealer there in town, one had a small country store north of town about 10 to 12 miles (if my memory is right) I wonder if there is any info in Ancestry.com or the free site WORLD CONNECT PROJECT or the LDS records on internet. dptwtr2004@aol.com
Greetings from Lowellville, Ohio!

I was hoping to reach out to someone who would be willing to help me out with a handful of items in Johnson County, Missouri all relating to the same individual. I'd be willing to compensate and expense and time if requested!

In particular, I'm interested in obtaining a copy of the will of Henry Boland, which I know exists in the probate court. He is listed near the top of this index: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mojohnso/wills/Wills3.htm

I would also be extremely interested in seeing an obituary, if one exists. He died in Johnson County (probably Hazel Hill) on 4 Oct 1894.

Henry is believed to be the brother of one of my direct ancestors that we've been at a brick wall on for a while now. All I have are family stories, and census checks that have them living as next-door neighbors and I'm looking for something more concrete. Henry appeared to have taken his wife and children to Missouri in the 1890s, right before his death.

If anyone would be willing to help me get a copy of this will and take a few minutes to look for an obituary I would be extremely grateful!

Thanks!

Thank you for your offer but I think I am currently at a standstill again. This is what I have been able to learn from the Archives at Community of Christ. My grgrandfather, Jonathan Tanner joined the church in 1889 (RLDS). His death date is recorded as Feb 16, 1923 but no place of death given nor a burial place given. Holden was a large gathering spot for Church of Christ (diff. denomination with similar roots). It is thought the Holden Home was RLDS (but not positive). The Mound Grove Cemetery may be the most likely place of burial. The Missouri Archives searched all the places available to them for a death certificate for Jonathan and found none in Johnson Co. nor the state of Missouri. They suggested that the death may not have been reported. Assuming the death date is correct (which I have no reason not to believe) then it appears as if his death was not reported if he died in Missouri or else he died elsewhere (not seeming too likely if he was in the home in 3 yr. prior). This is where I am now at. Thanks everyone.

The book "Decendents of Virginia Calverts" by Ella Foy O'Gorman 1947 Lists Angeline Tuttle b. Feb 22, 1818 and married James M. Meyers. She was daughter of Elizabeth (Calvert) Tuttle and Peter Tuttle.
Peter and Elizabeth were my G.G.G.G.Grandparents (I think I got enough greats!) so Angeline would have been my Aunt I believe. Her sister,my G.G.G. Grandma, Eliza Jane Tuttle married Leroy Day. I have a LOT on inormation on the Calverts and Tuttles and etc. Will be glad to share if you need it. dreamerskeep@earthlink.net No longer member of Ancestry.

I'm looking for ANY info about my relatives. Joan Adkins, born in 1924 is my Mother. She was an orphan and I don't yet have any information on her or her family. The 1940 census lists her living at the House of the Good Shepherd Reform School in Kansas City and also lists her home in 1935 as Johnson County. She was said to have had a brother named Jack who moved to Germany after WWII. Any information or ideas/leads/links would be greatly appreciated.

Do a simple GOOGLE search and it brings up all kinds of info on Madison Twp in JohnsonCo, MO. Might also try Johnson County Historical Society on Main Street. You can google that site also and get address and phone number for them. They may not have a lot but might have what some of you are asking for.
Virginia M WINN Parker from Warrensburg, now is So CA.

Thanks Leon. I will add that cemetery to my list to try & get checked out. I didn't realize (or didn't notice perhaps) that there was a Fairlawn Cemetery there. I wondered if there was a cemetery that members of the Home would be buried in if they had not specified otherwise. I thought (dreamed?) that maybe the Home would have records etc. but..........
Elaine

There is a Fairview cemetery near or in Holden. That is where I found a couple of the peole listed with Jonathan in the 1920 census. Finda grave doesn't show him buried there but I don't believe they have all the graves listed. In looking at pictures of the cemetery it looks fairly large.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=28...; This is Fairview Cemetery at Holden Johnson Co Mo.Findagrave shows 111 burials but looking at the pictures there would appear to be more.

Leon

Would anyone have any ideas if any records would be available concerning 'inmates' for this home (1920 area). I have reason to believe that Jonathan (Johnathan/John) Tanner, 79 who was listed as an inmate in the 1920 census may be my elusive grgrandfather whom I lost track of in Michigan after Feb. 1918. Almost all the info. about him in this census matches extremely well. I found no listing for him in any 1930 census, therefore am thinking he may have died between 1920 & 30 - if so, he likely died while living at this home. He was born in Ontario, Canada in 1841 & went to Michigan 1866c & he was married several times. I cannot find him in any listings that I have been able to search to confirm my thoughts one way or another. Any ideas anyone??????

Thank you very much for your offer & any help will be appreciated. Patience has paid off for me as I have been searching for many years for this info. I have made another inquiry to confirm the place of death(likely at the Holden House) & burial but it is too soon to see if I can come up with anything. I have been corresponding with another person whose Grgrandmother was also at the Holden House in 1920 & also a member of the same church (now known as Community of Christ). I learned that Jonathan had been a member since 1889 (most of the years were all in Michigan). The lady died in 1920 & is buried in Grove Mound Cemetery. I was able to find a death certificate for her online at the MO Archives but there is not one there for Jonathan Tanner (d. Feb 16, 1923). I am not sure if perhaps they are not all online or if there is another reason. Find a Grave has only a few sites listed so far for Grove Mound. I believe Holden Cemetery may have them all listed but no Jonathan Tanner. That is my best guess currently for the cemetery but that is only a GUESS. Before knowing for sure if Grgrandpa had died in MO or when etc. I inquired on ordering a death cert./search. It is fairly costly & requires an affidavit from a lawyer to even order it. I've never encountered having to obtain an affidavit for that purpose before - obviously the privacy is extremely high priority in MO. I don't understand that since some deaths are now online in the same time period.

I haven't yet found the place of burial for my Grgrandfather, Jonathan Tanner but I believe he is likely buried in MO (in or nr. Holden) NOT Fairview Cemetery, Weidman, MI. The 1913 date that you found for him is definitely incorrect as I have been trying to say for years. Years ago, someone invented a fact that he had died then & it has stuck in many locations which unfortunately I cannot erase. I think it started with a note by myself saying he died AFTER 1913 SOMETIME & someone put that down as fact! This shows what can happen with errors or otherwise. Thanks for all your help.

I am happy for you. Where did you find his death date? I looked to find death certificate for several of those others at Holden House and those I found DC's for were byried in the Fairview Cemetery there inHolden. It was a RLDS cemetery. I want to find someone who can check the cemetery in Isabella Co MI and find our if there is someone buried in it. Also I came across a family file saying Jonathan died in 1913. Find a grave does not show all the burials in Faairview cemetery. You need to find someone who can walk this cemetery. Keep touch by email.

Leon

Now am working on finding a death cert. & cemetery if possible. He died Feb. 16, 1923 & am assuming while living at the Holden House. I am so thankful tht I did not give up.
Thanks Leon; Yes, I will contact you separately but will add a bit here so as not to mislead anyone else. It is not impossible that Jonathan (Tanner)is buried with wife #1 but I could find no proof of his death or burial & I have my doubts if he is buried there - of course not impossible. BUT the data that you mention that he died 10 days after his wife is absolutely incorrect. It is sad that incorrect info. travels faster & longer than correct info. I have a lot of proof regarding that. Those dates are all connected with his wife death, date of paper, burial etc. Jonathan married at least 3 times later. He visited with family & it was noted in the local paper at times later. He made land/purchase transactions later etc. Thanks.

That should have been the 1910 census not 1920. Knowing that Missouri passed a law requiring all deaths from 1910 forward to be reported to the state government and that we know Jonathan was in Michigan in 1910 from the census and that he would have probaly buried his wife in 1911, I would believe he is buried with his wife and was not in Missouri when he died. I also found a note on the Fairview(Weidman) cemetery that said he was buried there and died 10 days after his wife. There are suppose to be records of his purchase of a plot in the cemetery and Elmer is buried in that plot so is Mary and according to what I found so is Jonathan. If you would like to contact me at lo dot kearns at gmail dot com I have some other things you might like.

Leon

Yes, that is the correct Jonathan who was married 1st. to Mary A (Mary A. died in 1911 & is buried in Weidman, Isabella Co., MI (yes, I believe Fairview is the name of the cemetery as I kept referring to it as Weidman Cemetery?) but it appears that Jonathan was not! Jonathan's 2nd wife (of a few months- 1912) was also Mary. Yes, Melvin (my Grandfather) & Ada are 2 of his children & Amy is a Granddaughter. Elmer was also a son. I have a fair extent of info. for all of Jonathan's children. Years ago I visited the Registry office in Mt. Pleasant, MI & did quite a bit of seaching & was unable to find any death info. for him then. 1914 Jonathan re-married & again in 1916. I don't know what happened to these marriages but am certain they were short term. I was thinking his last marriage was in 1918 but that is an error on my part though I think I did find a trace of him in MI in 1918 being the last. I am a little puzzled to the 1920 census entry that you mention with Jonathan & Mary - what location did you find that entry in?? The 1st. Mary had died by then & he had separated from his 2nd. Mary in 1912 - his last 2 marriages were not to a Mary???? I am especially interested in this 1920 census entry (he was with Mary in 1910). Thanks for all your suggestions & any others you might have. There may be 2 'wild' ones floating around in cyber space - one that he is buried in Ames, IA & the other that he died & is bu. in 1911 - same as his wife - both incorrect. Thanks.

You say that you have im up to 1918, is he the Jonathan, 1900 census, who is married to Mary A Boughen and live in Isabella Co. Michigan? They have a Melvin, 25, Ada, 15, and Amy 3. In 1920 census just he and Mary are listed. I also find Mary buried in the Fairview Cemeterty Isabella Co.Born May 1 1842 and died Oct 17 1911.Also there ia an Elmer Tanner born Mar 15 1881 died Apr 3 1881. In 1880 census it shows 6 more children ramging in age 14 to 1 yeqrs old. Jonathan immigrated from Canada 1856. I have checked death certificates and found none of Johnatan. If he died after 1910 he would have had a D.C. Some thing else you might do is , if this is your Johnatan, try trace some of the children. If his wife died I would think he would go to a home of one of his children.

Leon

Thank you Anne. I do not have proof that my Jonathan (Johnathan - John) Tanner was Mormon for sure. I also do not have positive proof that the 'Johnathan Tanner' that was in the home in 1920 was my grgrandfather but I 'lost' him after about 1918 (in Michigan) and a family tale said he went 'West' & he joined the Mormons. Almost all the census info. in the 1920 Holden Home for the aged for this man matches very well to my elusive grgrandparent so that is the best I can currently go on. Family tales also said that he had married several times in his 'dotage' which later turned out to be true (3 more times incl. one in 1918 which was my last record I believe for him - all appeared to be extremely short lived - & all in Michigan). Thanks again for all the suggestions. I did try Find a grave but no listing there though I know that is hit & miss but a great site.

The 1920 census shows 44 residents in the Holden Home for the Aged, so it was fairly large.

The RLDS church (Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints) sprang from the same roots as the Mormon Church, headed by Joseph Smith, Jr. After his murder, Brigham Young moved west with one branch of the church, & there were several other splinter branches. The RLDS eventually persuaded Joseph Smith, III to serve as their leader (I don't really know what happened to the other branches.) The RLDS branch were violently opposed to polygamy, & have tried to become more mainstream. My family was RLDS, & I was told that my great-great-grandmother (Iantha Stillwagon) went to a church-run home in Lamoni, Iowa. But through census search, I found her in the Holden Home for the aged in the 1920 census. (She died later that year.) If your ancestor was in this nursing home, & was reputed to be a Mormon, he was quite likely an RLDS, which would explain why the Mormons had no record. Since my great-great-grandmother was buried in the Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, that would be one place to check. Also, you might check find-a-grave.com for the whole state of Missouri, & see if you can find him that way. Independence was an important town for the RLDS. In the 70s, the leadership of the RLDS church, in an effort to become more mainstream, made some fundamental changes that caused another breach in the church. The more mainstream group now calls itself The Community of Christ, I understand. I sent an email today, to see if there is any way to track down records of the home. I will post if I hear from them.

My parents and grandparents lived in Holden during this time period and I don't recall a church home home being mentioned.. There is a Community of Christ Church in Holden that has may have someone that would know. The RLDS Cemetery is Fairview, located just north of Holden. The Cemetery in Independence where a lot of church members are buried is Mound Grove. I would assume that if there was a home in Holden, it may have been privately owned. Someone in Holden or Warrensburg may have the records. There was a House for the aged in Warrensburg that may have been a County farm or home.
Bob Bixby
Leon, Iowa

Thank you. Looking on a map, it appears Warrensburg is not far from Holden. In the time period of 1920 would you have any idea if the Holden House for the Aged would be run/looked after by the state, county, city, a private org. or ?? I'm trying hard to determine where a person might be buried if they died in this institution but was not originally from Missouri & I am not aware of any family members there either. Thanks.

I have not been very fortunate in finding any further info. about this home or records. You mention an RLDS cemetery in Independence & the RLDS church. Sorry but I am not familiar with that term - what does RLDS stand for - I'm guessing that the LDS is referring to Latter Day Saints?? It looks as if Holden & Independence are not too far apart but I have not heard if there were cemeteries near Holden nor do I have any idea where or what a reasonable burial would be from the home?? I have no idea as it seems many areas of research that are available in other states or provinces do not seem to be in this area. I was told that my Grgrandfather (Jonathan Tanner)may have joined the Mormons but I do not know this for a fact. I wrote to them many years ago & his name was not in their records so I have really come up to a cement wall these days. I hope you have better luck.

I believe that my great-great-grandmother, Iantha Stillwagon, died in that home. My understanding was that she died in a home run by her church, specifically the RLDS church. She is buried in an RLDS cemetery in Independence, MO. The church has gone through so much upheaval in recent years, that I have no idea where we might look for records. To add to the excitement, I have read that the church has fractured, & that at least one branch now calls itself "The Community of Christ." I would like more information about this home, too.

I have a death certificate for Hermann H Kueck who died 9/26/1932 in Warrensburg. What is intriguing is that his death certificate list possible suicide in jail.
I have been trying to find information on my house since I moved in almost 5 years ago. I have scoured the internet for pictures and sat in the court house for hours looking through the record books trying to find the year it was built and who built it. It is located in Holden, Missouri, and from old maps I know it was standing in 1892. If anyone has any information or happens to have an old picture lying around I would be very appreciative.
