Boone Hays (1783 KY - 1850CA) bought his uncle Morgan Boone's farm in Westport, Jackson Co., MO in 1836 ( now at 63rd and Garfield Ave, KC). He and his wife Lydia Ann Scholl had 11 children and many of them moved from Callaway Co., MO to Jackson Co. In the 1850's his sons Amazon, Linville, Samuel and Upton were all farmers and freighters and lived on the Hays farm. A daughter, Mariam Hays McMurtry lived nearby. In the 1860's most of the family was exiled by Order11 because of their relationship to Col. Upton Hays but most of them returned after the war and lived in and near Kansas City. In 1880, Amazon Hays was a Deputy City Marshall of Kansas City.
Upton Hays' wife, Margaret Jane Watts Hays wrote many letters to her mother in California from 1853 to 1872 and I'm preparing them to go an a website so am looking for descendents of this Hays family, newspaper clippings, photographs and family stories.
