BACKGROUND:
I recently returned from a trip to the State Hist Ctr in Rolla, MO, where I found add'l documentation on Sarah's father, William:

-Apprx 1847, William and Mary moved to Iron Co, MO from AR with 2 children (Sarah Jane & John).
-In 1849, William, a wagoneer, applied and was accepted to the Masonic Lodge (Star of the West Lodge #133).
-During the 1850's, William was paid for hauling iron/steel for the Madison Iron & Mining Co to Little Rock Landing on the Mississippi (just north of St. Gen).
-In 1858, William served on the grand jury of the first term of Iron Co. Circuit Court.
-From 1850-1863, William regulary attended meetings and remained current with Masonic dues. (I suspect the civil war had something to do with his nonpayment of dues after this date?)
-In 1865, William was listed as absent from Co C, 51 Reg Mo Inf at which time he was listed as sick in the Post Hosp Cape Girardeau.
-In (Jan)1867, William's wife, Mary, wrote to the Masonic Lodge asking for financial assistance, stating William left in the fall of 1866 and was still missing. I do not know if William's dues was current at this time, but the Masonic Lodge listed him as dec'd by 1868. However, William had been listed in the 1870 census w/ real estate value of $800 [perhaps his family still hoped for his return?].
-Between 1870 & 1871, Mary and the children evidently had to move from the family farm.
-1871 (April) - William's only son, John, returns to the original homestead (a farm 2 miles west of Pilot Knob, which was currently owned by an old man hauling wood for Pilot Knob Company)where he committed suicide. The newspaper article states John left behind a mother and 2 sisters. There should have been 4 sisters...was the oldest sister, Sarah Jane [who would have been age 26] not living at home at this time, or was she dec'd? (His sisters, Mary and Julia married in 1871: Mary md. Nov 1871 Wm. E. TRAPP; Julia Ann md. May 1871 John Clubb)
-Prior to, or by 1876/77, William's wife, Mary and youngest daughter, Josephine moved to Murphysboro, Jackson Co, IL, where Josephine had two sons out of wedlock: Robert and William.

I've located to-date info on the 2 sons, but do not know what happened to William's wife, Mary, or his daughter Josephine, after 1880.

Thanks for any leads on Sarah Jane after 1870!
