There was a John H. BRANNON who married a Mary PITTS. There are any number of PITTS researchers who are waving their hands right now. My dates for Mary are B 24 Mar 1798 Chatham County, North Carolina and D Sept 16 1859 in Hickory county. There is also a John BRANNON (Mar 3 1865-Mar 31 1944) who married a Martha Elizabeth RESER d/o Ananias Browder RESER and Nancy Elizabeth RICHARDS, Hope this is of some use to you.

My ancestor Robert B. Hendricks and his first cousin, Wilson Hunt visited relatives in Polk, Greene and Lawrence Counties in MO in 1856. I have figured out how all of the other people named were related, but in his letter where he wrote home to his father James Hendricks, he said he visted Jerry and John Brannon. Do your Brannons have any ties to Lawrence, Greene or Polk Counties? And is there a Jerry in the family in 1856? I am thinking it might be a nickname for Jeremiah or something.

Joel H Hutto
Dripping Springs TX
joelhutto@aol.com

Well, looks to me like you have two different women there. James must have had a first wife, before Mary bc 1822. Your Lucy seems to have never left Tn. Your Lucy bc 1828. The one in Mo 1860 census bc 1845. Two different mama's. They could have been half sibling's with the same name. Good luck in your search.

Thank you..
Yes, this is definitely my family of Harts.
Lucy first married Jeremiah Lowe March 23, 1854 in White County TN. The White County 1860 Census lists: Lowe, Jermiah--23, Lucy J--19, Mary--4, and John-1. This means that either Lucy's supposed year of birth is erroneous or she married at age 9 and gave birth to her first child at 11. Jeremiah Lowe died as a POW in the Civil War.
Lucy then married Josiah McCoy November 20, 1863, in White County TN. Frank Lee McCoy was their son and my Ggrandfather. Joshiah rode out of town and never came back.
Lucy then married George W. Crawford September 17, 1877, in White County, TN. By the 1900 census George Crawford was married for two years to another woman.
Lucy the married Lewis L. Green November 1,1883 in White County, TN. In the 1900 Census Lewis Green is listed as being 85 years old and Lucy J at 55 years old...at this time Lucy J (born August 1844) had 13 children with 9 children living, and the last known child being Mattie---15 years old, born 1884, Tennessee.
At this point we are unsure who the Lucy J is listed with the family in the 1860 census as being 15 years old....

And yes there is another James Hart in Hickory Co, on west side near Quincy, James Hart born in NC lived near Cross Timbers on east side of county. Not connected to this family, just trying to help.

Thanks.....Lucy Jane is buried close to her son Frank Lee McCoy in the McCoy cemetery in Sparta/White County Tennessee. I am confident with the data I have on all the family with the exception of James. I am searching for information on who his parents might be. There are numerous James Hart's out there born and lived in North Carolina. I know someone out there has the information either written down or orally passed within the family. Any information is helpful. Thanks and Peace from Tennessee

James and Mary were in Hickory Co Mo in the 1860 census, Lucy J. listed as age 15, could not find a marriage record for her, court house fires. Have marriage records, I think, for four younger siblings if you would like them. James seems to have died by 1870, as Mary is listed head of household in 1870, with Lucy J. age 23. No record of where James buried, but there is an old Hartville Cemetery in area where they probably lived.

Have yet to search 1870 Census and beyond for Hickory. Have marriage and other records indicating that they moved to the area of Quincy after the Civil War.

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone have any old photos or stories about the community or village that grew up around this post office? I'm told it was 7 or 8 miles from Old Linn Creek and I am interested in Eidson, Skinner, and related lines. Since it's also known as Windermere, I am assuming it was near where the Windermere Baptist facility is now.

I am also interested if anyone has ever found any evidence of Sarah Hickerson who married an Eidson. She is a brick wall and I'm trying to break through. Thanks a bunch.

I heard a story about the PINE sarcophagus once while visiting the Gardner cemetery, but can't remember it now. I can check with a local (who's probably the person who told me the story) there if you'd like.
No real obituary in The Index for Squire. Just this entry: “Squire L. Pine, one of the pioneer citizens of Hickory county, passed away last Saturday morning at 3 o’clock. Mr. Pine resided near Wheatland and was one of the best known citizens of the county, as he had resided in the vicinity of Wheatland for a number of years. By his death, the county loses one of its best citizens, his aged wife a loving husband and his children an indulgent father. To his aged wife and family the Index extends its sympathy in their bereavement. Mr. Pine by his industry, enterprise, and business ability had accumulated a large fortune, and we understand that he left a will disposing of the same, in which will Benoia Scott, of Wheatland Twp., was appointed Executor of his estate. In the selection of Mr. Scott, the deceased made no mistake, for Mr. Scott’s business ability, honesty and integrity is beyond question, and the affairs of said estate will be settled up just as they should be.” [The Index, Vol XI, No. 25, 2 Jan 1896, p. 2].
No obit or mention of his wife's death.
Ginny in Seattle

I was wondering if anyone knows the story behind the gravesite for Squire L Pine (1823-1895) and Emmeline Parsons Pine (1830-1900) in Gardner Cemetery, Hickory County, Missouri. I found photos online at findagrave.com and have attached them here. I am also open to help on where to look to find the story as well.

Squire and Emmeline are my GGGG grandparents.

Thank you.

Jessica Schmidt
Jessica,

Thanks for replying. This posting is so old, though, that I have found almost all of the information I was seeking on the Nowells, Lemons, & Allens at that time. The exception would be the marriage dates and divorce for Nancy R. Nowell's first marriage, to James Poe. His sister, Sinai Lanai Poe, married one of Nancy's brothers.

I have the book your grandfather wrote. I even met and collaborated several years back with Katherine Nowell, who supplied your grandfather with some of his information. I've been to Abraham & Gladys' graves in MO.

That being said, I'd certainly be interested in any information you have that wasn't included in the book. I understand that your grandfather would have gathered much information to write the story. An author can almost never include every detail he/she gathers as background, so I'd bet there are lots of notes and papers in his files. If you have anything to send me, please do it at my new personal email address, cinschmerb@gmail.com.

Thanks!
Cindi

It covers the events of the Slicker War in Polk, Hickory, and Benton counties with focus on Polk county. It includes an index of surnames and sources cited.

Your Lemon ancestor is also mentioned. I'm not sure what information you're needing specifically, but I can offer details on a few events supported by actual court records and documented local histories that can't be found elsewhere online.
