(my husband's great great grandparents) They moved to Lafayette County after their marriage.

William S. (Silas) McLain married Elizabeth Ann Adkins in Gentry Co. on 20 Sep 1863. They remained in Grundy County.

Joseph McLain/McLane married Sophia Addison in Grundy Co. on 8 Sep 1868.

I suspect that John Wesley, William Silas and Joseph McLain are brothers, born in Bath Co., Kentucky.

Would appreciate any information that could help me with my research.

Beverley

Gentry and Worth County History -- 1882, page 316

James B. Hunter,
farmer, was born in Saratoga County, New York, November 29, 1816. He is a son of William Hunter, a native of Massachusetts. His mother, whose maiden name was Mary Stiles, was born in Rhode Island. The family of William Hunter consisted of fourteen children, James B. being the thirteenth in number. When he was seventeen years of age he emigrated with the family to Richland County, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. In 1838 he came to Missouri and located where he now lives, at that time it being Clinton County; he is therefore known as one of the pioneers of Gentry County. In August, 1844, he went to California, via Mexico, and upon arriving at Los Angeles he was engaged in working in a vineyard. After a short residence there he returned to Missouri and in April, 1847, he enlisted in Company H., Twelfth United States regiment, for the Mexican War, remaining in service till August, 1848. Mr. Hunter now has a landed estate of 207 acres, making one of the finest located farms in the county. He has been twice married: First, March 18, 1849, to Miss Nancy J. Burton, who was born in Clay County, Missouri, October 10, 1831. By this marriage he has four children: Andrew, George, James T. and Mary. Mrs. Hunter's death occurred July 28, 1858. October 3, 1858, Mr. H. was married to Miss Jane B. Gale, by whom he had had four children, three of whom are living: Flora E., Dora A., and Phoebe J. Mrs. H. was born in Saratoga County, New York, September 16, 1834, and died September 23, 1877.

I have no connection with this family.
I don't know how extensive or how far back they go, but it would be fun to look. I would even be willing to take pictures of the headstone in Cooper Cemetery if you don't have it already.
I have traveled up and down King Hill many times, it is located just south of Darlington. It has a very steep grade and was impossible for any bike to make it without a push. Just a little east of the road in the pasture and white oaks is the grade called suicide hill. Many a sled rider came up with a bloody nose or a broken bone.
Named for the Knig family, my owned the land on the east side of the road and later my father also purchased the land on the other side of the road. Long branch creek runs east and west at the bottom of King Hill.

If you search family trees on rootsweb.com with Emily Heath and in the spouse line put in Osborn. You should come up with 4 trees that have information on them that will help you, also e-mail addresses that may or may not still be good. Go to www.predinkle.com, they have death records for Gentry county. Thomas died 1/22/1952, person giving information was Pearl Kizziah Sherrell of Gashland, Mo. They have a copy of the death certificate that you will be able to print off. As for the marriage record, they may not have gotten married in Gentry county. Did her first three marriaages end in death or divorce? If it was divorce they may have gone to a different county or even out of state.

Do you know if there are any church records for the Lotts Grove Church? I'm looking for some documentation and information on Pleasant Adams and wife Martha (Patsy), who are buried in the Lotts Grove Cemetery. I am descended through their daughter Martha Frances Adams Dehart.

I'm also trying to find some information on Pleasant's mother, Rebecca Adams, who we think died in Gentry (now Worth) county between 1850 and 1860. She is found in the 1850 census living with Pleasant. I'm wondering if she was buried in the Lotts Grove Cemetery, but just not marked with a gravestone that is presently visible. Do you know if there is a Lotts Grove Cemetery Association or something of the sort that oversaw and recorded the burials? Or, if there are church records of deaths/burials?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeff

I have found no record of a place called King Hill in Gentry County. There is a King Hill--quite a hill that overlooks South St. Joseph, Missouri. Could this be what you are asking about? If so, you can probably find information about it on the internet. There is a King Hill Cemetery in South St. Joseph. Good luck in your search!

Dennis
I am also working on John Huggins and Elizabeth of Gentry County, but I believe that her maiden name was Morris, not Crockett. I have a deed from Monroe Co, OH, where John Huggins and wife Elizabeth and Robert Morris receive their shares on the estate of their father Basil Morris (also spelled Bazel et al) Since John and Elizabeth named a son Morris Basil Huggins, this appears to be the same John and Elizabeth from the Ohio deed. In addition, Elizabeth's brother Robert Morris is living near her in the 1850 census and Robert Morris' children are buried in the Hugginsville Cemetery. Have more on these families.
Has anyone located the cemetery where Aaron & Nancy (Marley) Barker are buried? Some years ago we were taken to YORK cemetery southwest (I think) of King city. We went on a narrow dirt road and the cemetery was in a field about a block from the road. I have pictures of their stones. The death certificate for their son Henry P Barker lists York cemetery as burial place.
However, I can not find this cemetery anywhere, have made several calls to places in King City and no one has heard of it.
Does anyone know of this cemetery? Were the people there moved to Shepherd cemetery?
Would really appreciate any help to determine where they are buried.

carrie Irene Allenbrand is the dau. of Susan hecker who married David Brown of Daviess co Mo. According the her lineage of Brown in Ok, it has never been Identified who the father was of Carrie.. No marraige record was found either for Susan Hecker. In 1880 Gentry Co for Charles and kate Hecker, Susan was their dau and listed as a widow, and Carrie Allenbrantz as their grandauter. Carrie finally married Jesse jackson and their family livied in Oklahoma. We are still trying to find Hecker family from the 1850 Kent co ,Maryland census. John F. Hecker met Nancy jane Ackhart in La Porte Ind , married and in 1867 moved to Gentry co Mo. to start their family. The pesky 1860 census for both families is still evading us..even page by page. I will keep your info, but right now it does not seem to fit our search. much thanks..if we can be of any help to you, please ask. dcheryl84@yahoo.com

Thanks for the reply! How are you related to John Gibson b. 1831 in Scotland and married to Agnes Clelland? I do not have any information on Guy Gibson Smith, but the name is consistent with what I do have. I am working with a cousin who has put together information on the Gibson family and has lost track of this line of descendants. She has tracked them to Australia and the US in addition to the ones in Scotland.
I had received an email once from a relative in Missouri and then lost the hard drive on the computer. I would be able to put you in contact with her if we are related and I would be able to provide you with any information that I may have. I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

I am looking for living relatives of George and Clara Stryker who lived in Delta , Co. ( Gentry) for several years. George Stryker and Clara Hughes married June 9 , 1909 at the bugalow on Garnet Mesa Delta, Co;
She was a member in the Methodist church there.
George Stryker and Clara Stryker are buried in the Delta ( City) Cemetery ( which is also called the Garnet Masa or Mesa cemetery) along with Clara's father William Hughes who came from Ireland in 1847 as a youth and lived with George and Clara for about a year before he died. He was born in Ireland 1831 and had other brothers who also came to America.
Their names were Joseph, George , and John. There widowed mother also came and her name was Margarethe or Margarette or Margaret Pierson Hughes. Her husband must have died during famine in Ireland and his name was H. Hughes.

George died 1929 age of 51 and Clara died 1919 age of 66.
George Stryker was born in Iowa and his father was born in Indiana and mothers birth place was Indiana.
I would like to know if there are any living relatives in the Delta area still living? I would like to share what I have with them.
I know that there are several Strykers buried in the same cemetery as George Stryker.

Hi Mark;

The email was received. Thanks. Unfortunately Canadian information about Xavier is very scarce. The 'History of Porter County' states he was born in Alsace and immigrated at age 18. The 'Gentry & Worth County History' gives his birth date as 28 Jan 1810 and says he 'came to America' in 1831. These dates and the age at immigration of 18 are in conflict. I am not aware of any ship passenger lists or manifests from these early years. Most (but not all) people of that era came to Canada through either New York or Baltimore. The first Canadian census took place in 1851/1852 when Xavier had already left Canada to go to Indiana. His marriage also predates the keeping of marriage records by the government (Canada was a British colony up to 1867). Xavier's marriage might exist in an old church record book somewhere in Ontario but which one? The origins in Alsace make sense but you need to have a village name in Alsace to associate with Xavier to find a birth record (such as exists for Margaret Babion/Boebion of Pfalzweyer in Alsace). Other Allenbrand family names are associated with the village of Munchhausen and Wintzenbach in Alsace and the LDS church has civil records on microfilm for those towns. It might be a 'needle in a haystack' approach but you could get the microfilms and see if Xavier is in them. I would try the civil records as the Allenbrands were German-speaking and Lutherans so they would not be covered by the church-books of that era as the books would have been French and Catholic.
