Crider Family Reunion

I was wondering if there was going to be a Crider Reunion in MO this year. I received an email for the one in Texas and have considered going. I think it would be great, but kinda short notice and money would be an issue. Anyone know if there will be one in MO?

My mother worked at the International Shoe Co. factory in Bland, Missouri, before she married. That would have been 1940-42. I don't know how long it stayed open but eventually went the way of all of the small rural factories. I worked for Brown Shoe in Dixon, MO 1959-60.

Bill Schwegler
www.schwegler.us
Gasconade Valley Cousins
bill@schwegler.us

No WARRENs in my lines but Tea figures heavily in an ISENBERG direct line that arrived there 1856. Census listings called the area Canaan township. Am familiar with FindAGrave but see no listings for Tea, MO. A booklet for Red Oak has 3 ISENBERGs which are mine, other names are AHLE and BAUR. Drove to Tea area from Tulsa about 12y ago and only found a single road off of highway T, a road sign lying on the ground and a few rather dilapidated buildings in the area. No people, no streets, no place where a town used to be. Found some help in Redbud but no one I met knew where the cemeteries were. Are there maybe booklets or transcriptions available for any churchyards in the Tea area ? Meg Greenwood

They ended up in Woolam, Gasconade County but I assume at first they would have been in Mt. Sterling.
Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Meg,
This is a new Project, although your surname is not listed, it can be. The only Surnames listed so far are those that tie to my own line either directly or collaterally, this will expand as others join the project. A data base has to start somewhere , this is the start. In answer to your 2nd question, for YDNA testing, you will need a male in your family who carries the name Isenberg, for the mtDNA testing you will need a female whose line goes daughter to mother to mother back to Lippe. I am not an expert on either DNA or Genealogy, however I do have over 40 years of research in genealogy, much of it done researching Lippe families. As stated in the project profile names in Germany change with Real Estate transfers, I have 3 direct line name change myself, and many more through collateral families. For those who want it I will lend my help to them. This will be a mutual data base that we will all contribute to.
I hope this answers your questions. If you would like to join let me know.
Al Tieman
altieman@gmail.com

This project is most interesting however I'm not sure what it consists of....DNA testing or Research help. Both ? The surname of my grandparents is not in the list, but they are known to have come from Lippe Detmold because of personal documents and census material. the name is ISENBERG. I am female, my father is the ancestor directly linked to this family noted specifically as originating in Augustdorf in 1829. What results might I be able to get from DNA testing ? I thought there was male line testing and female line testing but a mix of generations, male and female alternating would not show proper markers. What are the parameters for finding a prime test subject for DNA workup ? Meg Greenwood / Oklahoma
Lippe Detmold, Germany Geographical DNA Project
The scope and purpose of this Geographical DNA Project is to offer help to those reseachers who can either trace their ancestral roots to, or currently live in what was the former Principality of Lippe. Although there is a German DNA Project, the Lippe Detmold Project is designed to offer a more confined geographical area of research. Currently Lippe consist of roughly 481 square miles, this is walking distance. I originally started a DNA SURNAME PROJECT, which I still administer. Due to the German practice of changing surnames with the transfer of real-estate, either by purchase or inheritance through a female spouse, this project made sense to me. Historically Lippe has existed as a country since 1123 and was once an independent state within the Holy Roman Empire, later, it was incorporated into Prussia.
Re: Adolph Herman Isenberg

The headstones of Adolf ISENBERG and 5 other family members can be found in FindAGrave by locating Fairlawn Cemetery in Payne county OK, then querying for ISENBERG.

I asked a RAOGK volunteer in Stillwater to get the obituary of Adolf to see if he could be linked to Herman ISENBERG and wife Anna BAUR from Gasconade county Missouri. That family line emigrated with a small group in 1854 from Lippe-Detmold, Germany ending up in the area of Tea, Missouri.

Tea is now unincorporated and mostly gone, wish I knew what actually happened to the entire town and its 'downtown' roads...can they just disappear ? They may have been dirt or gravel and are now sporting large trees, but where do buildings go ? Post Office ? General Store ? Barber Shop ? Its not not far from Rosebud, maybe 6m south. I went there about 10y ago and only saw a large metal building with faded lettering saying TEA. A 2 story house was nearby but the back screen door was torn off lying nearby and it looked uninhabited. I did not investigate. There is a road called T, its intersection with the old road to the town of Tea had a roadsign at the corner but it was pushed over, lying in the grass. It was being re-divided for lots to sell. Also there was a Fishery sign indicating that road I was on...... but I never did see anything that might be it unless it was that large metal building. Does anyone know what this small area is called now ?

This Adolf and his family were not linked as far as I can see, it is most likely a coincidence of having the same surname. Adolf ISENBERG's father entered the US 84 years after Herman, his name was Meier ISENBERG and he may have came to Stillwater because he was related to Jacob KATZ, well known merchant there. Since Obituaries are printed in the paper, and Adolf's is brief, I'll post it, he died 1 August, 1970, this obituary appeared 2 August. He died in Stillwater and this is the Gasconade MB however, I'm trying to show this is not the same line of ISENBERGS that had lived in Gasconade county.
---------------
1970 Stillwater News Press
Adolf Isenberg Graveside Rites Due Here Monday

Adolf Isenberg, 82, of Ardmore died Saturday in Ardmore. Graveside funeral service will be at 2pm Monday with Rabbi
Joseph Levinson officiating.

Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery with Strode Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements.

Isenberg was born 27 December, 1887 in Homberg, Germany.
He married Rosa Steinfled [spelled as seen]who preceded him in death and has lived in Ardmore for the past 23 years. He was a retired cattleman and a member of Temple Emeth in Ardmore. Survivors include 1 son, Ludwig, Ardmore; a daughter Mrs. Abe [Edith] Schnitzer, Houston Texas; 5 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. [end]
---------------------
Its highly unlikely the ISENBERGs in Fairlawn are this same family but I'm glad they are initiating a new conversation on Herman and his family. Am readying a few CDs of pictures to send out, Michelle gets one and anyone else who sends me a mailing address will also get one. There ARE strings attached....we'd like to know if the recipients can identify any new faces in the pictures ! This CD is of one family member's inherited family photos most of which are identified. There are surely some shots of the Tea area but we have no idea which would be those. I'm hoping to learn more about the unknown faces and places.
Christine ! Nice to hear from you ! We're still doing the house, knee deep in the kitchen now. In looking back at the Stillwater trip which was most likely way over 5y ago, I have to think the reason for deciding this was not my family was the given name Adolph/Adolf. I'd not known of this name then, only Herman. With no children given this name again, and me not knowing who this could be, it was given up to coincidence.

Am still getting the Blue Screen of Death upon startup of Legacy so we are backing up the machine today and deciding what to do with this refurbished one, we think it is the culprit and we'll have to figure out what to do with it.

Did I ever send you the CD with all the Isenberg, Mittendorf, Cantly, Kinneman, etc pictures mentioned earlier in the threads on this MB ? Burning a duplicate is not done on this machine so shutting this one down will not affect CD production.

Does Stillwater have a newspaper archive at the library ? Can this headstone be checked out and maybe an obituary obtained if a date of death is gotten from the cemetery there ? I don't yet know where the new poster lives [barisax714]. If they live in Stillwater, maybe we can get new information !! Odd that Gil and I lived in Stillwater 1976-87 and I never knew of any family ever living there. Once an aunt asked me if I had 'looked up' the Isenbergs. I honestly had no clue what she was talking about so I just said No. I figured she was asking about some friends of hers and I really didn't want to go knocking on doors and chat with [old people] I didn't know. Am sure the aunt thought I knew the family names but I didn't. Well, I was only 19 or 20 and trying to get through classes. Funny that the place where they once lived [the house long demolished] is only a coin's toss from Eskimo Joe's main store. There's a one way alley near there [EJ used to be Ma William's Diner, a huge dining hall where you got unlimited food for a buck a plate] and the large old Isenberg house and barn were situated with part of the property against that alleyway. Our youngest daughter lived in an apartment on that one-way alley from about 2000-04 til she graduated. Why didn't I have this information earlier ? Meg G in Bartlesville.

My Legacy software is giving me the Blue Screen of Death right now when I start it up. Just happened twice. Have to show my husband tomorrow morning to see what he can do to straighten it out.

I was back in Stillwater about 5y ago and at the Library, they had a listing of the people in the cemetery but it was decided that the ISENBERG family there was not mine. Some dates were out and some children's names did not match up.....still, I can't imagine another ISENBERG family being in Stillwater in those years and not have a link to this line especially as similar names were used. I didn't have enough time to research it more or go myself to see if the names in the book were correctly transcribed from the headstones.

I've got information on all the family of Herman ISENBERG and wife, Louise AHLE. What other ISENBERG names did you find at the cemetery in that area ? Because it was figured they weren't in this line, I didn't take notes on them. The ISENBERGs who lived in Stillwater were supposedly moved to Oklahoma City for burial in a cemetery there.

Did Gilbert's family eventually go to Corpus Christi TX ? Without the family tree software, I have to rely on my brain.....bad idea sometimes. Please contact me personally at nutmeg@bartnet.net and by then I hope we have this Legacy software problem figured out. Thanks for writing, this was a large family and they scattered after the parents died. Much of the family just lost each other.
I was in the Stillwater cemetery this afternoon and noticed an Isenberg plot. I stopped to look because Gilbert was a charter pledge of Kappa Kappa Psi at Oklahoma A&M in 1920. I did see Adolph's headstone, but his name was spelled Adolf.

I would love to get more information on Gilbert if you would be willing to share.

Aaron
