Trying to locate the graves of Clayton and his first wife, Susan in Franklin Co. Clayton is my great great granddad through his oldest son, James Henry Daniel Hiatt and his wife, Susan J. Hiatt, his first cousin. She was the daughter of Milton and Rosannah Adams Hiatt of Franklin Co. and was married to Clayton in 1860. She died in Oct. 1866.

Elizabeth married Clayton in 1867 and had Henry, Edith, Edward, George, Charles, Anna and Cecil (not in that particular order).

I have this information on this family and on James, who is incorrectly listed in the report below as living in Hoston, KS. (it should have read Horton, KS)

Clayton was the son of Darius and Margaret Hiatt of Franklin/Gasconade Co. Darius murdered his wife then killed himself during his trial for her murder. (Clayton testisfed against his father in the trial as did one of his sisters.) I have a lot of information on this family- if you are related to it in any way, please contact me at the email address above. I am willing to share what I have with descendants.

12/31/1914 (Obituary of great grandpa James Daniel Henry Hiatt's stepmother.)
"Mrs. Elizabeth Hiatt, wife of C. R. Hiatt of Maplewood, died Dec. 20 at her home and was buried at St. Clair Dec. 23. Deceased was the mother of Henry Hiatt of Union and leaves besides her husband and the following children: James, Edward, George, Henry, Charles and Cecil Hiatt, Mrs. Ethel Notter and Mrs. Anna Maurer."

From Brush Creek township's newspaper:
"1-16-14 Mr. Henry Hiatt and family moved to Union last week. People who take an active part in religious social and educational affairs are missed when they leave a community. We wish them success in their new home."

From a newspaper called "Headlight" comes more news of great granddad's half brother and his family:
"Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hiatt spent the first of the week in St. Louis in consultation with an oculist relative to the eyes of their daughter. The little girl has been having some trouble with her eyes for some time and we hope she will be better soon." (the daughter's name was Velma.)

One of the descendants of Clayton's sisters states this in these papers: "Our family descendant researcher says that Darius was a bootlegger and that he and Margaret had a row over money owed him." I cannot verify this at all, but am trying to get in touch with this particular descendant to see what else she might know.
