I looked up the Hutchings burials in the following book:

DeKalb Co. Cemetery Census, 1845-1971

I found the following Hutchings burials in the Wamsley Cemetery:

Abram Hutchings, 1835-1915
Claude Hutchings, 1895-1922
Jessie E. Hutchings, Died 1932
John R. Hutchings, 1859-1914
wife, Ada L., 1869-1957
Hutchings, Lovane, Died 1918

I found no Mahala Scott or Mahala Hutchings listed as being buried in DeKalb County, Missouri.

Is there someone that has access to cemetery records for Wamsley Cemetery? I need to know if a Anna Mahala born abt 1840 died sometime probably 1883 to 1900 is buried there. I have reason to believe she was married to Abraham Fulkerson Hutchings b 1835 died 1915, who is buried there. Anna Mahala was a King and married to John Scott who died 1877. Their daughter Ada Scott married Abraham Hutchings son John Riley Hutchings, who are also buried there.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

I am trying to determine whether there was an obit printed in the Cameron newspaper the week of Feb.,18,2008 on the subject above.He was my 1st cousin and I have lost contact with any of the family.He may have been living in a Blue Springs nursing home or possibly with his son there at the time of his death.His parents Earnie Wilburn McMullen & Emma Marie Pearson McMullen are buried in Cameron Memory Gardens.I would assume that his late wife Betty Jean Johnson McMullen is buried there also.Betty died on 16 November,2004.Poland-Thompson Funeral Home did his parents services and I assume they did his late wife's.
Any info I get get on he and his wife would be DEEPLY &
gratefully appreciated.

Michael being born in 1841 and Luther born in 1870. The first six children were born in Kentucky, Hardin Co. Then Wm Fred is born in Missouri.

In 1850 they are in Hardin Co. KY census

I have contact with someone from Michael's family, Sarah Elizabeth's family, Phillip's family, Jacob's family, and pictures of George's family who went to Bremerton, WA. I didn't know there were any girls in the family. I only knew about Mike, Phillip, George, Wm. Fred and Jake. Those were the only ones my grandpa knew, the others were either dead or had lost contact.

What I'd really like to know is what Jenkins family Sarah came from. There are a couple of Phillips in Hardin Co. Any help would be appreciated.

Anderson Smith

The birth date of Anderson Smith Sr. is 1745. He married with the consent paper (dated 2 Sept 1763) of both his mother Rebecca and his brother James Smith. Date of Bond 2 Sept 1763 to Priscilla Williams. Bond sig: by Andrew Smith, likely a cousin, but not a brother. Vincent Williams brother of Priscillia. At the time of his marriage Anderson was under 18 years of age.

The mother Rebecca Anderson was born in 1699/1700 in NJ. Her family is well docutmented. However we do not know whom (Smith) she married. We have only three of her children. James, Anderson, Francian who married Charles Hunt.

Anderson and Priscillia Smith Sr. known sons are Anderson Smith Jr. Vincent Smith and Edward. there are others. But the above three have been researched.
We are trying to locate a direct blood male of the James Smith. We know his sons and some of his grandsons. Are contacts have been with the females of this line todate.

Anderson Smith

Recently DNA test were done on the two known sons of Anderson and Priscilla (Williams) Smith, Sr. Vincent Smith and Anderson Smith Jr, which were a match. However they raised a red flag in connecting this Smith line to that of whom we belived to have been a brother of Anderson Smith, Sr. This was Andrew Smith of Rowan Co. NC. We know from the marriage bond and the consent paper attached to Anderson Smith, Sr. that his mother was Rebecca (Anderson) Smith and his brother was James Smith (Major) of Rowan Co. NC. Anderson Smith, Jr wife was Rebecca Thompson, who we find in DeKalb Co. MO.

That is part of the mystery. When children are born and the father is either not aware of the child or does not claim the child the mother some times gives the child her last name. Whomever it is that has the info on John being this persons father would be the one to answer that.

I have been searching for any sweets that was from or lived somewhere in newyork. My husbads father name was Richard SWEET and his grandparents names were Richard Sweet and Geneva Sweet. I believe that I have at least two ancestors buried in Wamsley Cemetery. They are Thomas Allen and his wife, Eleanor Allen (maiden surname was George). They died sometime after the 1870 census. Are they listed in the "DeKalb County Cemetery Census (2845-1971)" book?

I may have other ancestors buried in Wamsley as well. Robert Ray, Rebecca Allen and Elizabeth Ray.

"Bacon-Allied", compiled by J. Dean Bacon and Dow P. Bacon, and available on Inter-Library Loan, has a large section on the Haptonstall and Parkins families. Samuel Parkins was a son of Abraham & Rachel Margaret Price Haptonstall. There is quite a bit of information regarding this Abraham Haptonstall on the Internet, some of which is not correct. However, the facts do appear to be that Abraham Haptonstall (son of Abraham) was born april 6 1759 in Blooming Grove, Orange Co. NY (on his Rev. War Pension), married Margaret Price in Greenbrier Co. VA c. 1784. Abraham died Oct. 22, 1847 in Knoxville Co. IL and I have visited his grave. He has two stones there as well as a DAR marker. One of the gravestones was engraved by Abraham himself. The other is a military marker. His wife, Rachel, apparently died in VA (now WV) and was buried there.

Samuel Haptonstall was born Jan 2, 1797 and died Jan 10, 1853 according to family records. The following record would be of interest to you: Written for DeKalb Co., MO "The Grand River Trail." "The Happenstall Mill--recorded by Clay Jackson in 'Story of Alta Vista' published in the DeKalb County Herald, April 10, 1921: Henry Harper,Weatherby, Mo. recalled that it was in 1849 when he first saw the old mill on Grindstone Creek when his father took a load of wheat there and traded it for plank to weatherboard his house. Wheat then was .50 a bushel. The saw mill was on the east side of the creek and the gristmill on the left side. There were no wagon roads. The mill was built by Vic Smith and bought sometime in the 40's by Happenstall, who came with his brothers-in-law, the Manrings, from Virginia.... Dave Mathis bought it after Mr. Happenstall died."

Marriage records of Greenbrier Co. VA list a marriage of a Haptonstall to Eleanor Parkins on 23 Sep 1819. I do not have dates of birth/death for Eleanor Parkins other than that she was 51 on the 1850 census in DeKalb Co. MO. There was a family of Parkins in Greenbrier Co. VA which inter-married with the Haptonstalls. Samuel's sister, Sarah, married Jeremiah Maston Parkins in Greenbrier Co. I have not been able to connect him by documents to Eleanor, but one would suspect that there is some connection as the Parkins and Haptonstall families moved to Knox co. IL together.

Some of the Haptonstall and Parkins families left Greenbrier Co. VA and settled for a period in Gallia Co. OH. That Samuel & Eleanor were there is found in a cemetery record indicating that their daughter, Mary, was buried in Centerville Cemetery in Gallia Co., in 1838.

My husband is a descendant of Sarah Haptonstall & Jeremiah Maston Parkins, both of which are probably related to your family.

I am a descendant of his first wife, Sarah A. Smith, mother of Robert H. Danner and Allie M. Danner. I think the M. stands for Maud (Maude). I then descend through Allie and her husband Henry August Harms. My maiden name is Harms. I didn't know Edward's middle name, just his initial 'S', so I've already learned something tonight! I also didn't know Laura's last name, just Laura A. I found these families on the 1900 Census for Missouri. Robert and Allie were raised by their grandparents - John R. Danner and Rebecka A. after Sarah died and Edward married Laura. What other information to you have? I have the names of Laura and Edwards children from the census - but I expect you probably already have that info. Can you let me know what you have and I'll see if I have any more for you? Elise: I don't know James Thomas parents were at the time of his birth in 1849. According to the 1900 DeKalb County census, James was born in 1849 in Missouri, and his parents were both born in North Carolina.
His wife, Irene, was born in Illinois, in 1856, and her parents were both born in Illinois.

At the time of the 1900 census, James & family were living in Polk Township, in DeKalb County.

Ed: I believe the best way to get an obituary for the Surface couple may be to get on the Buchanan County Rootsweb website and get in touch with the lady who posted there on April 4, 2008, that she can get obituaries. Maybe Isaac and Bertha's obituaries were carried in either the St. Joseph Gazette, or St. Joseph News-Press, and if so, she may be able to get them for you.
She will need the date they each died. Many of the deaths in the outlying communities were given in the St. Joseph newspapers. I don't know what she charges but it may bear looking into. Many of the county newspapers carried obituaries, but they only came out once a week. I used to go to the downtown St. Joseph library and obtain old obituaries. However, I no longer live in that part of the state. I wish you the best of luck in finding the information you need. Dennis

Hi: I have several books on Union Star. I did see the name of Geo. Green and mention of a lady who worked as a milliner for a Mrs. Green. However, the Mrs. Green was not mentioned by her first name, or the name of her husband, as would have been more proper in those days. One book is not indexed, therefore, it is harder to find information. I grew up around Union Star, and lived just over the DeKalb-Andrew County line, in Andrew County. I found only 2 Charles Stewarts listed in the DeKalb Co. Cemetery Census Book, 1845 to 1971.

Stewart, Charles, 1856-1863

Buried in the Dice Cemetery, in Adams Township, ca. 9 miles north of Cameron, near State Road EE.

Stewart, Charles A., 1858-1939
Wife, Sylvia B., 1874-1895

The Stewart couple are buried in the Winslow Cemetery, which is south of King City, on Hwy 169 about 3 miles, then east a few miles.

I only found 1 Beard burial in DeKalb County.

Beard, Otis, age 67 years, no dates for birth or death
Wife, Carrie Householder, 1888-1917

There were other Stewart burials in DeKalb County, in various cemeteries.

He may have died in Iowa, or as you say their names may not have been recorded. I do know that some older graves were not marked properly at the time of death and relatives moved away. If you connect to the Smith line, please take not of the following.

We have recently done a DNA sample on my cousin's son Randy Smith, we are of the Andrerson Smith line. If you are using the information that Anderson Smith (Sr.), the son of Rebecca Smith, born 1699 in New Jersey and died in Rowan Co. NC 1786, that is correct.

However we have a problem. The DNA was done on the lines of Andrew Smith Sr. of Hopewell two sons; Thomas and Andrew Smith Jr., they match. The DNA was for the Anderson Smith, Sr. line, wife Pricillia (Williams) was also done. In Anderson marriage consent papers of 1764, it states that his mother Rebecca Smith and brother James Smith, gave their permission to marry, with the knowledge of Andrew Smith. It was believed that Rebecca Smith was married either to Thomas Smith or a son of his. With the DNA of not matching, several of us are going to have to do a lot more research on to whom Rebecca (Anderson) Smith was married to. She could have first been married to Thomas Smith or his son of Andrew Smith Sr. family. The husband dies and after his death married another man by the name of Smith, who has no relationship to the former husbands family.

As near as I know I am a descendant of Anderson SMITH and Rebekah THOMPSON. Supposedly, we come through the line of Edward Ned Smith. He first married Elcy Best and later married Elizabeth Reed who was a sister of my G Grandfather Alpheus Reed. Alpheus married one of Ned's daughters, Rebecca Catherine SMITH. My Grandmother's grandmother was Cynthia JOnes NEwhouse Smith Reed. On her picture we show that she was married three times. James, her first husband died as a Southern sympathizer. My grandmother's mother, Martha Jane Newhouse Phelps was her daughter. I have a great story of the family if you haven't seen it, but I am not finding Nancy but I know that she might be a half-sister to my ancestor. In my records it shows that Emma Cynthia Jones married James Newhouse of Clinton County, Missouri at the home of Cynthia Smith her aunt. I don't know when she married SMITH or REED or if the last one is even true.

Olive E. York d. July 15, 1948 in Dekalb Co.. She was the d/o of Joseph D. and Lucinda Curtis Flanders.
Joseph N. York was the informant on her death certificate. She is buried at Stewartsville, Mo.
I would bet that Joseph N. is the York who died on Nov.12, 1957 in Dekalb. Joseph was alive in 1948.
I can get you an obit for him on Saturday if you want.

Is there anyone out there that remembers my Dad, Howard Hutton? He was the sheriff of DeKalb County for 2 terms. We left Missouri when I was 4, but I remember so many things about Maysville. Especially the Courthouse and how it was in the center of town. My son was lucky enough to see Maysville when he driving across country,bringing my Mom, Audrey Swearingen Hutton and sister Janice to live in Virginia where we live now. He loved seeing where his "Poppy" lived in his early adulthood and meeting his Great Aunt Neva and Uncle Donald.

Hi there. My great grandfather Phineas Reed moved to Iowa about 1865, to Lucas County. Then he moved a few years later to Bloomfield IA and bought land about 8 miles southwest. He and his wife, Mary Jane McKee are burried there in the Wesleyan Methodost cemetery. My Phineas Reed died 12 Aug 1912 and his only surviving son, Isaiah Watson Reed moved to Washington state around 1882 and then to Alberta Canada in 1905. No apparent connection to Bloomfield Reed.

I think my Frank was born in 1861-1862 in Missouri.
He married Lillie Widener. They lived in High
Prairie Township, Kansas for awhile.
I think my Frank had a brother, Stephen who was
just a bit younger than he was.
I just know that my grandma (Frank's daughter) took
me to a headstone that said "Steve Silvers". She said
he was her uncle and when he died she bought him
that headstone because he didn't have one. She
was very fond of him. Her father, Frank, was an older
man by the time she was born and he passed away
when my grandmother was only 7 years old.
I'd always heard that Frank's parents were Hugh and
Rachel Silvers, but I've never confirmed that.

If you know of any of these Silvers, please let me know.

Cemetery Census 1845 - 1971 " shows that Beard, Otis aged 67 (no dates) wife Carrie Householder 1888 - 1917 were buried at Stewartsville cemetery at Stewartsville, MO in Washington township, DeKalb County. Besides those cemetery, there are 58 cemeteries in DeKalb County. There are no other Beard I can find.

I did not find anything about Benjamin Franklin Smith but I found his name in " DeKalb County Cemetery Census" book. It says Smith, B. F. ( 1856 - 1887 ). It is Bulter cemetery in Grant township. There is no other Smith at Bulter cemetery.

Only thing I found in the book, "DeKalb County cemetery census is that there is Smith, T. W & A (the year- blank). daughter Sarah E. ( - 1883) son William R. (1877 - 1885).

I have info for you. Frank Lee Pulley's parents' names are John Warren and Elizabeth Ann (Erwin) Pulley. I found the names in the book, "Amity". Amity is a very tiny town in Sherman township.

Frank L. Pulley Ran for Judge in 1940

When I received a copy of the Pulley family history published in the DeKalb County Herald in Missouri, in 1940, on the same page was the "Official Vote of DeKalb County" for the primary election of 6 August 1940.

Reading through the names, I found that Frank L. Pulley had run for judge of the Circuit Court, Fifth District (he lost).

I don't have a "Frank L. Pulley" in my database yet -- does anyone know who he belongs to? He received most of his votes from north Sherman township and north and south Washington township, so a hunch says he might have lived there.

Did Thomas Smith ever live in DeKalb County, if so, can you give an idea of about the year or years he lived there? Did he have any brothers or sisters and what were their names? Did he marry and who did he marry, and did he have children? He might have appeared on a census and that is why it is important to know a little more than his name. Good luck! Dennis

Creed/Winstead marriage

I beleive my GGrandfather Abner Elijah Creed married Marinda Jane Winstead, 19 Aug 1894 in Maysville, DeKalb county, MO. Marinda's father was William Taylor Winstead. I don't know Abner's fathers name. By 1900 the census shows them living in Clinton county, MO. I am looking for any info on the Creeds or Winsteads in this county. Does anyone have a means to confirm this marriage? Thanks for any info.

I am seeking information about the descendants of Abraham (Abe) GROOM, son of Abraham GROOM and Jane CRAWFORD. "Abe" was born about 1808 in Clark County, Kentucky and died betweem 1850 - 1854 in Clinton Co., MO.

He married Mary (Polly or Pop) ADAMS, born October 08, 1817 in Fayette County, Kentucky the daughter of John ADAMS and Sarah (Sally) HOLTZCLAW.

Abe and Mary had three children:

2.Mary Ann GROOM b: Abt. 1839 in Clinton County, Missouri

3. William GROOM b: Abt. 1841 in Clinton County, Missouri

4. James GROOM b: Abt. 1847 in Clinton County, Missouri

5. Sarah J. GROOM b: Abt. 1849 in Clinton County, Missouri

After Abe's death ca 1854, "Polly" ADAMS GROOM, married March 20, 1855 in Clinton Co., George Clark STEPHENS. Clark STEPHENS' 1st wife, Sarah GROOM, was Abe GROOMS's sister. It is believed that Clark and Mary ADAMS GROOM STEPHENS lived in DEKALB County, Missouri for some time. Clark and Polly had one known child, Alexander D. STEPHENS, born ca 1858. In 1880, Clark STEPHENS was living in Davies County, Missouri.

Laban Savage - Taylor Harris

Hello, I am looking for descendants of Laban Savage. One of his daughters, Jane, married Taylor Harris and they had at least one child, a daughter named Bell, born ca 1870. Also looking for descendants of James and Reuben Savage, sons of Laban Savage, and information on Walter and Elizabeth Savage. Walter was a brother of Laban's and had no known children. Laban and famly are believed to have arrived in DeKalb shortly before 1867. Walter was in the Clinton, Gentry, DeKalb counties area before 1840 and was still there in 1880. Any information appreciated.

I have found info that Rachel was Martha "Rachel" Bixly. I find the family on the 1850 census in Jefferson County, MO.

Appears they lived in KY until at least 1845 and traveled thru IL to MO.

They are in Clay County, NE in 1860. I cannot view a copy of the census right now for some reason. I do know that Lorinda was married in NE though. I can access the household which shows Robert, Jacob, Daniel, Sarah 10, born in MO; and Charles, 7, born in IA.

In 1870, they are in Polk County, Jackson Township, MO. James, Rachael, Charles, Sarah and Daniel. Again, the census images themselves are down right now so I cannot see things such as occupation and such.

I could not find them in 1880. Found Lorinda in Polk, MO.

The 1890 census was destroyed by fire. The seemed to move around quite a bit. That is a bit unusual if he was a farmer. Maybe I can access the census later to see what his occupation shows.

I think there may be some relationship between these families but I have no idea what it is. The clue is the name Winfrey. My husband is descended from Thomas Smith/Lorrinda Silvers, through their daughter Cynthia Smith who married Joseph Williams. Their daughter Ida Belle married Samuel White and they named a son WINFREY Willard White. These are all DeKalb co MO families and I've always wondered where the name Winfrey came from.

Don't know where you live, but I have found great info from the DeKalb Co. Historical Society Museum & Geneology Library, P.O. Box 467, Maysville, MO 64469 or email at dchs@cameron.net. They can find everything.

Last summer I purchased their book, "The Grand River Trail" because I was sure I would find several things. On pgs 270 & 71 is a spread about the family Alpheus & Rebecca Smith Reed, plus many other bits of information about that family.

William E Anderson and wife Fanny Bird appear in ED 68 of Dallas, Dekalb Co., MO 1900 census. By 1910, several of William's siblings had joined him. These siblings include Ada L Anderson, Robert Franklin "Frank" Anderson, and Paten B Anderson.

Most of these people were still in Dekalb Co. at the time the 1930 census was taken. Ada L Anderson married Cecil C Perry. No idea who the others married. William and his siblings were the children of Robert F Anderson from Jackson Co., TN. Searching for anyone who descends from this family or has knowledge of this Anderson group in Dekalb Co., MO. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
