After my previous post, I realized that Mary's brother, Hugh L. Dodds, a Methodist circuit preacher, was in
Clinton County, MO, where he purchased 2
Missouri land patents, 1 for40 acres and the other for 65.2 acres, from the Lexington land office May 1, 1843.
In the 1850 census, Hugh, his wife
Harriet and daughters
Isabella and Elaine, lived in the 16th district,
Clinton Co., MO.
In an 1850 letter to his brother, James
Dodds, Hugh wrote that he was 300 miles above St. Louis, 25 miles from
Liberty landing on the
Missouri River. Believe he was at Plattsburg, MO, at that time. I haven't been able to trace him or his family since then.
