My Harris family did travel by river from Ky to Clay Co. Mo.
Robert Gillmore Harris brought his family from Somerset, Pulsaki, Ky making stops in Indiana, Ohio landing in Mo. It is possible that your cousin and I might have a connection.
I don't have the person that you are looking for. And our Harris line begins with Thompson Harris, Sr. , Christopher Harris, Mashackar Harris, Robert Gillmore Harris. I have children for each line up to present.
Annie Harris: oldwoman2006@aol.com

Did you ask the poster to remove the whole page, or just the inaccurate information? Most findagravers are willing to correct errors, but not delete the page. If you have corrections, and she does not respond, you can post the correct information in a "flower".

Hope that works for you. Nobody wants a bunch of inaccurate info out there.

Deb

Connection between Peebly and Slaughter family in Fishing River, Missouri

Does anyone know the connection between the Peebly and the Slaughter family or any history of the families prior to 1900.

My GG Grandfather was Isaac (Plunk) Slaughter (b. 1866). According to his death cert his father was named Elijah. However I can not find Isaac Slaughter prior to his marriage to Annie Slaughter in 1888. Isaac and Annie Slaughter lived in Fishing River (Missouri City), Clay Co, Missouri.

I did find a Felix Slaughter(b. 1850) and John Slaughter (b. 1855) in the 1860 census. On the same census I find the following;
Frank Peebly(1805),
Fanny Peebly (1817),
Peter Peebly (1827),
Jack Peebly (1840),
Maria Peebly (1843),
Riley Peebly (1844),
Frank Peebly (1845),
William Peebly (1846)
Jane Peebly (1848),
Eliza Peebly (1850,
Alexander Peebly (1852),
Julia Peebly (1854),
Alexander Peebly (1856)

In the 1840 census I find an Elijah Peebly age 70 -80 with a son age 10-15, a wife, and 2 daughters.

I also find four more Peebly house holds including another Elijah Peebly age 15-20 with a wife and daughter.

I do find an Isaac Peebly (assuming someone Isaac Slaughter changed his name, in the 1880 census)

Any help with information on the Peebly family or Slaugheter family would be appreciated.

I have since figured out the Jesse Harris in Clay County was not the one I was searching for in my line. I have my Jesse in East St. Louis in 1920 and 1930 censuses. I am very interested in your Kentucky connections. I have Henry James Harris b. 1793 in I believe Harden County, KY and died 1876 in St. Francois County, MO. We have a 37 pt. perfect match to a descendant of a Thomas Harris in central IL from that same late 1700 era. His descendants believe their Thomas is from Maryland to Ohio to IL. I have not been able to figure out any more of the family backward from Henry James Harris b 1793 in Harden County, KY. The only link to Harden County is from Henry James Harris's War of 1812 military pension file. A cousin and research partner said his family lore has the Harris family floating down the Ohio River on a barge. You have your family traveling that same way. Wonder if there might be a link. Does anything here sound like there could be a connection?

Linda Gregory - gregorydonlin@atlantic.net

Hannah Pence Campbell & William Campbell

I have searched with no results when/where Hannah & William Campbell died. They were married in Liberty 01/1829. They are on the 1850 Liberty,Clay county census with their children. In 1860 Hannah is no longer on the census with William & the remaining children at home. On the 1860 Washington,Clay census
Jane Campbell is listed as his wife along with her daughter by marriage to Joshua Harris. FYI Jane's maiden name was Craven. William & Jane were married Nov 7,1857 narrowing Hannah's death between 1850-1857. Jane died Feb 1878 in either Mosby,Clay,Mo or Ray County Mo. William is not on any census in Mo after 1860. One thought I have had is that Hannah died from cholera as there was an epidemic. As far as William, I do know there was a tornado that devastated Richmond in the 1870's. Since Jane had lived in Ray county with her first husband & children and she married William Campbell in Ray county he may have had reason to be in Richmond. I know these are long shots...but I am grasping at straws. I would be grateful for any suggestions. I do not live in Missouri so any physical research is not possible at this time.
Thank you

I have run across a Jeremiah in my research but can't confirm if he's related to my ggg-grandfather. I have found reports in archived Liberty newspaper of various people dying from cholera but haven't found an issue with Hannah or her son mentioned. They don't have every issue archived yet. You said they disappeared between 1850 & 1856 but they were married in 1870? I might try to call the library up there or maybe the genealogical society. Our local library has a great western section which includes the midwestern stats. I'll look back in my research to see if I kept anything on Jeremiah. Did he come from Kentucky or Tennessee? Let me know about the dates.

cholera epidemic

Does anyone know if there was a cholera epidemic between 1850 and 1857 in Clay county, specifically Liberty? My ggg-grandmother Hannah Campbell and their eldest son Adam appear on the 1850 census but not on the 1860. I've located the other children who would have been of age to leave and start their own families. Adam is listed under the category "deaf & dumb, blind, idiotic" etc. My ggg-grandfather had remarried in 1857. I read that many times the deceased were buried in mass graves. Any suggestions?

My gggrandparents disappeared between 1850 and 1856 in Clay County. At the Archives they said they thought there was a cholera epidemic. They were Ellis. Nancy Ellis married Jeremiah Campbell. Do ou have anyone like that in your family? They were married in 1870.

Try calling the Clay County archives in Liberty. They are very helpful. They are only open Mon-Wed.

Adoption

I am looking for some suggestions on how to go about looking for an adoption in Clay County that took place in 1945. The hospital was supposedly in Excelsior Springs and has since burned down and been replaced with a new
building.(?) Is there someone in the area that does this kind of search? How open are the county records for a person to do their own search? Any help would be appreciated.
