Parker-Estep History
Johnathon T. Parker came to Missouri from Illinois, when a young man. He was born March 27, 1850.
Caroline Pennington was born in May 1859, near Osceola, Missouri. She was the daughter of Willis and Elizabeth Moss Pennington.
Johnathon T. Parker, and Caroline Pennington were married September 7, 1879. They were the parents of five children. William M. Parker, the oldest, was born near Osceola, Missouri, July 23, 1880.
Nancy V. McKinney was born in Yancy County, North Carolina, on August 7, 1886. Her parents were Samuel and Frances George McKinney, and they had also been born in Yancy County. They came, with their six children, to Missouri about 1890. Samuel McKinney was a veteran of the Civil War.
William M. Parker and Nancy McKinney were married December 21, 1902 near Weaubleau, Missouri. Their first child, Lillie Mae, was born near Wheatland, Missouri, October 19, 1903. Later they moved to Atchinson Coutny, Missouiri where their oldest son, Lenzie was born September 2, 1905. They returned to Bates County in February, 1915 and lived there for 6 years. Nellie Parker, and twins, Eva and Neva were born while living there. They then moved to a farm southeast of Urich in March 1921, and Frances and Herbert were born while living there.
They lived for a number of years southwest of Creighton. When their health failed they moved to Creighton.
They were charter members of the Creighton Baptist Church, Mr. Parker being licensed to preach, February 28, 1928.
Their children are: Lillie Mae Estep, Creighton; Lenzie O. Parker (deceased); Nellie Burkhart, Springfield, Missouri; Mrs. Russell (Eva) Cumpton, Adrain, Missouri; Mrs Harlie (Neva) Kenagy, Garden City, Missouri; Mrs. Gilbert (Frances) Pullen (deceased); and Herbert W. Parker, Independence, Missouri.
Mrs. Nancy Parker died May 5, 1954, and William Parker died July 27, 1963.
Alvin Estep was born August 11, 1869 near Kilbourne, Illinois. He was the son of George W. and Cynthia Norris Estep.
Ada E. Cobb was born April 23, 1872 at Kilbourne. Her parents were Nancy War Cobb, and William Cobb.
Alvin and Ada were married March 16, 1893, at Havana, Illinois.
They were the parents of three children, Pauline who died with scarlet fever at the age of eight years, Carl, who now lives in North Kansas City, Missouri and Glenn who was born December 27, 1902in Salem, Illinois.
They lived on a farm south of Urich, Missouri for many years, and moved to Urich in March 1947.
Alvin Estep died February 13, 1951, and Ada Estep passed away October 1, 1956
Albert Glenn Estep and Lillie Mae Parker were married November 27, 1923, by the Rev. J. E. Jackson in the Baptist Parsonage at Urich, Missouri.
They lived for several years in Henry County, first on a farm near Whit Oak, then later they moved west of Lucas.
In March of 1944, Glenn and Mae with three of their children, Pauline, Norman and Glenna moved to a farm near Creighton. The oldest son Lawrence had enlisted in the Air Force just previous to the move. Leaving home for active duty on August 10, 1943. Roger the youngest son was born in Creighton in 1944.
The Esteps were farmers most of their years together. Glenn was employed in Kansas City during the winter months of 1943 and 1944, but when spring arrived he returned to farming.
Tragedy struck the family when the husband and father was killed in a train-truck accident at Archie, Missouri on December 31, 1945.
Lawrence was stationed, during the war years, near London, England. He was a waist gunner on a B-17 bomber. He returned to the states at the end of the war with Germany, and was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Mississippi. Lawrence and Gretchen Hawkins were married February 14, 1946, at Gulfport, Mississippi.
Lawrence was discharged from the Air Force in February 1946, and lived in Kansas City, Missouri for five years. Their fist son, Terry, was born while they lived there. Lawrence was recalled to active duty in March 1951, while living in Roswell, New Mexico, where their second son, Jerry ,was born.
Lawrence served in Korea for a year, leaving the states on March 24, 1954. He served for 20 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Master Sgt. For several years he worked as a recruiter, first in Opilika, Alabama, and later in Biloxi, Mississippi, where he won top honors as a recruiter in his area. One man born in Dublin Ireland came 4000 miles to be sworn in to the Air Force, while Lawrence was recruiting there.
Lawrence and Gretchen now live in Biloxi, Mississippi. Their oldest son, Terry L. Estop, and wife, Nancy Nunely Estep, have one son, Clayton. Terry is a Captain in the Air Force, and is now stationed near Selma, Alabama, where he is in training as a pilot.
Their youngest son Jerry is attending college at Hattiesberg, Mississippi.
Norman Estep was employed as a clerk and meat cutter for Kropf's Store, Creighton, after graduating from high school. He entered the Air Force in April 1958, and completed Airborne Radio repair at Keesler Air Force Base Mississippi. He spent several months in Alaska, and was later stationed a Dyers Air Base, Texas. He was a communications specialist aboard the giant C-124 Globe Master plane. He returned to Missouri after his tour of duty was over and has since been employed by Western Electric at Lee's Summit, Missouri. He also attended C.M.S.U. and received his degree in 1972.
Norman and wife, Coralie Sumey Estep, and son, Ryan live in Independence, Missouri.
Roger Estep after graduation has been employed by Mid-West Metals, Kansas City, Kansas. His work is with printed circuit boards. Roger lives in Kansas City, Missouri.
Pauline M. Estep, and Gene Chandler were married February 4, 1946. Since their marriage, Gene and Pauline have lived on, and farmed the Chandler home farm.
They are parents of three children: Paulette Chandler Johnson who lives in Kansas City, Missouri. Paulette sings and plays guitar. She writes much of her own material, and for four years she has performed professionally around the Kansas City area. Paulette is the mother of a daughter, Dawn Johnson.
Cythia Chandler married Delbert Simpson and they lived in Clinton where both are employed.
Glenn Chandler, still living at home, is a senior at Sherwood High School.
