What we know is from the marriage certificate, death certificates, census searching, a trip to MI and some deductive reasoning. I'll explain......
My grandfathers family started in MI, around Palymra. William D
Thayer and Ella
Boulton married in 1885 (if memory serves) and had 3 children in MI William (1886), Mary (1889) and Frank (1891). The next child was Margaret (1895), George (1899) and Albert (1902) all being born in MO, residing in St Joseph, MO in the 1901 city directory. William D is a pipefitter working at the Steam plant (if memory serves). Sometime around 1904 the whole family implodes, George and Albert (later adopted as Christopher) are in foster homes, Margaret is sent to the state girls school in Chilicothe, Mary marries John
Lehr in 1908 goes to KC her sister joins her in 1914, John
Lehr dies in 1915, Margaret marries James
Campbell in Oct 1916 (we have a marriage certificate), Mary
Thayer shows up in the 1920 census as a nurse at General Hospital and then we pretty much lose them. I have a SSDI index entry that matches James A
Campbell (died in CA, 1978).
Someone on another board said this about James and Margaret.....
"I show that James & Margaret married in 1916, had no children and later divorced. James married 3 more times and had 1 daughter (Rosa) with his second wife. Sorry that I can't be of more help."
We made contact with George Thayers family line several years ago, still living in
Shawnee Mission KS, they have some family pictures from Frank when he was in the war and some stories that he was sent to the neighbors to borrow so money and when he came back his mother had gone to MI.
Ella
Boulton died in KC in 1923 and is buring in MI in the Palmyra Village cemetery near her father and all the other Boultons. William D
Thayer died in KC in 1934.
Here is the bizarre part of the tale. George
Thayer dies in 1971 and my grandfather is at the funeral. A man comes up and says "excuse me, I think you are my brother". My grandfather Chris/Albert meets his brother Frank at their brothers funeral. I have family in KC as you can guess.
Circumstancial evidence to be sure, but it seems to tie together. I'd like to study some of the letters/pictures that George's family has but as you know time gets away.
What do you think......?
