laura is not buried in fayette, missouri,we walked that cemetery for atleast three hours and we did not find her or john d.leland,i have his obituary and he was a mason and buried under the masonic rites ritual,i will type a part of what it says here:
DR.LELAND WAS AN HONERED MEMBER OF A.O.U.W.LODGE OF THIS CITY AND WAKENDAU
CHAPTER,MASONIC
LODGE OF CARROLLTON,MO.FUNERAL SERVICES WERE CONDUCTED BY REVS.PENDLETON
BROOKE AND
THOMPSON PENN,AFTER WHICH THE UNITED WORKMEN TOOK CHARGE OF THE REMAINS AND LAID THEM TO REST IN THE SILENT CITY OF THE DEAD,WITH APPROPRIATE CEREMONIES.
this does not tell me where he and laura are.all i know is they are NOT in
howard county, missouri.if there was a big headstone dedicated to john d.leland and laura we would have found it.i kind of believe laura was cremated and is sitting on someone,s mantle somewhere.i found laura and her second husband w.h.elgin in the 1900
randolph county, missouri census.so something isn,t making any sense, she could not have died in st.louis like her obit says.i think her obit was doctored to make it look good and i think there were mistakes made on her death certificate,i don,t think laura committed suicide,i have my theories as to what happened to her.until i can verify and document my theory,i will keep it to myself for a while.
