They were not related at all, that I can tell. Sardis Smith converted to the Mormon faith about 1834, sold his land in Hancock Co., OH in 1836 and acquired land in Caldwell Co., MO in 1837. But by 1845 (after the Haun's Mill massacre) was in Wapello, IA, in 1850 he purchased land in Pleasant Twp., Monroe Co., Iowa, then five years later purchased land in Columbia Twp., Wapello Co., IA where he appears in the 1860 census. He married a third time in 1875 in Hancock Co., IL, then returned to Missouri, where he bought land with his 3rd wife in Clarke Co. He returned to Wayconda, Davis Co., IA in 1881 and died there in 1891. There is no one in that family named Warren Smith.
