Thomas, thanks for going to the trouble to post that information from the censuses. The information contained in them is what confuses me as to whether his name was Raymond Isaac
GORE or Isaac Raymond
GORE. In 1900 he was reported as Isaac Jr., but on the 1910, 1920, and 1930 censuses he goes by Raymond. His WWI draft registration card lists him as Raymond. But it wasn't uncommon (even to this day) for family members to go by their middle names. I was just trying to find some type of document where my confusion might be resolved.
But I do have a question, if birth and death registrations didn't start until 1910, does that mean that the records contained in the 1851-1910 birth records were done on a volunteer basis, or perhaps whatever was the norm county by county during that time period? And is that why
Buchanan County is not included in this database, because this county generally didn't keep birth records until it became offical statewide to do so?
Again, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
