My wife and I recently visited Columbia for several days from the west coast to look up obituaries at the SHS newspaper library. Needless to say, we missed a couple. Are there any folks locally who'd be willing to help us fill the gap? Please respond privately at goldfinches@yahoo.com . Thanks!
Just for info - That cemetery used to be right in the
middle of the current race track. The stones and
some of the dirt was symbolicly moved to the current
location. Money talks - cemeteries walk..(or disappear)

there was one there. it was the orear family cemetery. and, as far as i know, they did get permission from a family member about moving it to where it is now. my great grandmother was the great granddaughter of the orear's. my grandpa has the original newspaper article about it. i would have to ask him more about it to find out more accurate information though.

Jerry McCauley --Obituary

The News Times, Newport, OR 97365
Jan 8th, 2013

Jerry McCauley

Jerry McCauley, 79, of Depoe Bay, Ore., died of natural causes on Dec. 26, 2012.

He was born Dec. 11, 1933 to Jacob and Jeanette McCauley in Kirksville, Mo. Jerry graduated from Mexico High School in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Isgrig, on Jan. 12, 1955 in Columbia, Mo. They proudly raised four children: Dan, Patricia, Carol and Douglas.

Jerry graduated from the University of Missouri in 1955 with a degree in entomology. He served in the U.S. Army as a trainer for Nike Ajax surface-to-air missile systems at Fort Bliss, Texas, reaching the rank of first lieutenant. When his service was up, Jerry went to work for his father’s janitorial supply business, Atkins-McCauley Chemical Company, in Columbia, Mo. In 1958, Jerry began offering a new commercial odor control service, that he eventually called Aire-Master. In 1963, he established Aire-Master as a separate company and relocated to Springfield, Mo. He grew Aire-Master into a nationwide franchise system and manufacturing business.

Jerry retired as president of Aire-Master of America in 1997, naming his son, Douglas McCauley, as his successor. Jerry became chairman of the board and remained so until his death. He and Mary Ann spent their retirement traveling between their homes in Oregon and Missouri. They eventually moved to the Oregon coast permanently. Mary Ann McCauley died from a stroke in 2008.

Jerry was respected and loved by his family, friends, business associates, and employees. He had a joyful spirit and an outgoing concern for others. He loved to make people laugh, he gave many people an opportunity to be successful, and his Christian faith guided him in everything he did. Jerry served as an ordained elder in the Worldwide Church of God (now Grace Communion International) for more than 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Jeanette McCauley; wife, Mary Ann McCauley; son, Dan McCauley; and daughter, Carol Bosserman.

He is survived by his daughter, Patti Kilgore of Depoe Bay; son, Douglas McCauley of Depoe Bay; and granddaughter, Larisa Bosserman of Fargo, N.D.

A memorial fund has been established for those wishing to donate. Seventy-five percent of proceeds will go to sponsor a child in Sierra Leone through The Raining Season; Twenty-five percent will go to the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Visit the websites listed for more information (www.therainingseason.org and aquarium.org). Memorial donations may be sent to: Jerry McCauley Memorial Fund, Springfield First Community Bank, 2006 S. Glenstone, Springfield, MO 65804.
Thank you for your reply.

Since Jemima Caton was born about 1792, she died prior to the death certificates which are on the Missouri Death Records site for the years 1910-1961. Her alledged so, Thomas D Cayton, his death certificate is found on that site.

I have found nothing on Find A Grave.
I have looked on the Boonve CO MO Cemetery Project site, that site seems to have been active between the years 1999 and 2002. None of the links on that site are working.
There are no listings for her on the USGenWeb archives.
Other than census records (last census Jemima Caton is found in is the 1860 census for Perche, Boone CO, MO), there is no information on her on the FamilySearch site.
I've hit that proverbial 'brick wall' with Jemima Caton!
Julie Caton Spencer

Thanks for replying, Boqua Vandiver married Mose George Lamar on Oct. 21, 1917. She was born on Sept. 26, 1898. She died in Arkansas and I have those records. I have census records for her after her marriage. I cannot find her parents. I will check the site you recommended. Thanks!

I'm researching Jemima Caton. Born 1792 in KY, married Noah Caton in 1808 in Mercer CO, KY. Noah remarried in 1814. I find Jemima Caton in federal census records for 1830 and 1840 in Mercer CO, KY, then find her in 1850 census record in Dist 8, Boone CO. Jemima is 57 and living with her is Thomas D Caton how could be a nephew. 1860 census finds her at age 67 in Perche Twp, Boone CO, and it appears she is sharing her residence or land with Benj Crump age 34, his wife Mary age 27, son William age 4 and son John R age 1. I'm looking for the death date/place of Jemima.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
Julie Caton Spencer

Harry J. Miller was born on December 21, 1893 and died in December of 1966. His last known residence was Hecla, South Dakota.

Hecla, Brown County, South Dakota was a very small community (population 227) located just west of Britton, Marshall County, South Dakota. Hecla, Brown County, South Dakota is just South of the North Dakota - South Dakota border.

Did not find a record of either Harry or Hilda on Find-a-Grave website (especially for Hecla Cemetery).

This Hilda Miller (50) was living with Harry's mom, Amy Miller (70) in 1940 in Brown County, South Dakota and there was a Bryan Miller age 17. Both Harry and Hilda may have been divorced at the time.

There was a Marriage of Hilda (age 56) to Harry J. Miller on January 7, 1946 in Brown County, South Dakota. Is it possible that they remarried after being divorced?

Wayhouses on the "National "Road active 1875-1882

I'm looking for names and locations of wayhouses that were in business around 1880. I hope to find guest registers that may include my ancestors the John Robert OHNSAT family, who traveled the National Road by Conestoga wagon from Pittsburgh PA to Pittsburgh KS around 1877. (This town in Mitchell County, in north-central Kansas, was later renamed to Tipton, to avoid confusion for postal deliveries in Pittsburg, Crawford County, Kansas. Parts of my research are documented in my blog, http://tgkohn.blogspot.com/2012/06/ohnsat-mystery-on-nationa...)

I know that the National Road actually ended in Vandalia IL, and that National Road travel was eclipsed by the railway system, beginning as early as the 1860s. However, a family anecdote claims the family took the National Road, and even one register entry would help prove the anecdote's truth.

Thus, what was a main throughfare from St. Louis to Kansas City may have had a different local name, though its function was as a continuation of the National Road. I've travelled all of I-70 and most of U.S. 40, the construction of which pretty much obliterated the actual National Road.

I welcome replies that include information about

- Still-extant remnants of the National Road
- Wayhouses in the county
- Rail development in the county
- County historical societies or museums that may hold such information

Thanks,
Thomas Kohn
tgkohn@aol.com
(Direct replies encouraged)

Hello, I am wondering if you can help me. I am researching our Sullivan family Line. They lived in the Missouri area from the 1850s through the turn of the century. We are not sure of the eldest parents names but understand that they passed away sometime during the Civil War in the Pest House near Ironton, Missouri. We were also told that this "Pest House" was later referred to as the "Poor Farm". They had several children that were taken in by various family and area people following their parent's death from the Small Pox. Two of the children were William Victor Sullivan (born in Dec 1859) and his brother, John L. Sullivan (born in August 1856). We believe there were two sisters, N.Nancy and Elizabeth (Lizzie). We believe there may have been others but can't be sure. William was reportedly born in Liberty, Iron County, Missouri and in all likliness, so were his siblings. We would love to know more about the family should anyone know. William Victor Sullivan married Etta Caroline Braswell, Lizzie married Nathan Oneal. A small note that a cousin has shared has some information written on it that, "the Sullivans were buried near the "Ivester Farm". We are not sure if there may be a cemetery there somewhere or that they were buried on what is now "private property". We would love to discover the whereabouts of their final resting place. Other families associated are the "Carnahans" Stevenson or Stepherson" "Hubble" "Oneal" and "MCfadden" Should you have any information, please email me at glendalecrazy@aol.com or give me a call at 406-465-5667. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
