Yes, Noah's Parents were Joseph Shrout and Eliza E. Wright. Noah's Death cert doesn't list his parents, but you can find him with his parents in the 1880 cencus in Green County, Indiana. Noah Shrout was my g-g-grandpa. Noah is not nearly as big a mystery to me as Zellie. Do you have any information about her; like names of her siblings or parents? I can share what info I do have on Noah if you like.
You can email me at...
therealpoepoe@yahoo.com

A family of the name Copening lived in this county in the mid to late 1800's. Does anyone know of any cemeteries where Copenings are buried and if you do, do you have transcriptions? I know that Missouria E Copening is buried in the Old Union Methodist Church Cemetery in Bessville. I'm not sure if other Copenings are buried there or not. Thanks to anyone that can help with this.

I am looking for:
Daniel M Copening
Jane Elvira Bowman (Daniel's wife)
Jacob G Copening
M E Tucker/Turker (Jacob's second wife)
Ellen Copening
Moses Copening

Since my husband's GG Grandmother's maiden name was Long, married to a Pulliam, I took pictures of all the Long and Pulliam headstones. WILL SHARE.

At this point I am not sure who Sherilda Long Pulliam is related to. that is why I took so many pictures.

S Fann

Marblehill MO in Bolinger County has an archives center. On High Street, it is only open on Tuesday and Thursday. For MO death certificates free go to
www.sos.missouri.gov/archives

There is an archive center in Jackson MO that has a little bit about Bollinger County. It does have two complete census records. The 1880 and the 1900. But it has a lot of info on Cape Girardeau County and Southeast MO. It is open every day except Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Jackson is just a short drive from Bollinger County.

Sandra F

I also have a few Myers but no Hasketts at this time.

My family are descendants of David A. Mills of Stoddard county, Missouri. Most then moved north to Bollinger County around the Marquand area. Ther names are Crook, Mouser, Powell, Salyers, Switzer and Watts. any of these names ring a bell with you. I will share my info with you.

Art Delhougne

Bollinger Co.
1851-1978
page 938

ETHEL L. MABUCE SOELBERG

Ethel L. Mabuce Soelberg, a teacher and church leader during her early life in Bollinger County, became the first person from the county to be accepted for an overseas assignment by the Women's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church. A reception in her honor was held at the Methodist Episcopal Church in Lutesville, which was also known as the Northern Methodist Church, on Sept. 11, 1916, shortly before she left home to begin training prior to her departure from the United States in November of 1916. She was the third daughter of Hans H. and Kate Miinch Mabuce, and was born in the Bessville area on Dec. 23, 1886. She received her early education at the Hahn School near Bessville and later attended Will Mayfield College at Marble Hill; the Chicago Evangelistic Institute in Chicago, Ill. and Taylor University at Upland, Ind. where she received the A.B. degreee in July of 1916. Ethel Mabuce taught at Barber, a country school in this county, and in the Lutesville public schools before going to Burma for her missionary work. Stationed at Rangoon and Pegu, she worked chiefly with the Sunday schools and women's groups among the Burmese. Returning to her home for a furlough in 1921, she enrolled at Northwestern University for graduate work. Instead of going back to Burma, she married the Rev. Chris J. Soelberg of Imogene, Iowa. He was born in Rougntved, Denmark, Sept. 26, 1886 and came to America when he was 18. He had also worked as a missionary in Burma, initiating the Methodist work among the Chinese in Rangoon. Their marriage took place at the Mabuce home with her brother John, a Methodist minister, performing the ceremony on Nov. 13, 1923. They spent most of their years in the Methodist ministry in Iowa and Kansas. Mrs. Soelberg frequently participated in missionary conferences, and after her husband's death in 1954, she worked in a children's hospital in St. Louis. Prior to Rev. Soelberg's death they lived in Lutesville. She later lived there and at Cape Girardeau before retiring to Homelife at Farmington in 1972. Letters which she wrote to her family at home during her missionary career were printed in a book entitled, "I Always Wore My Topi: The Burma Letters of Ethel Mabuce 1916-1921" by the University of Alabama Press in 1974, edited by her niece, Lucille Griffith.

Re: Ludwig Emil Mabuce Biography

Bollinger County
1851-1976
page 900-901

LUDWIG EMIL MABUCE

Ludwig Emil Mabuce, patriarch of the Mabuce family, migrated from Aversie, Denmark in 1866. He and his wife had four children, all born in Denmark: Jacob Ferdinand, Anna Sophia, Hans Hansen and Nels Peter. Jacob Ferdinand settled in the northern part of Bollinger County and was the first person to be buried in Liberty Methodist Church Cemetery in June of 1877. Hans Hansen Mabuce, born Aug. 29, 1856 at Aversie, Denmark married Rosina Katherine Miinch who was born Aug. 31, 1861 at Pinkneyville, Ill. She was living in the Patton community at the time of their marriage on Sept. 1, 1879, and the couple remained in Bollinger County where they raised a large family. Their children included: Carolina, born Sept. 19, 1880, who married Laurence C. Griffith on Sept. 18, 1904; Dora born Nov. 15, 1884, married Ephraim H. Bess on June 19, 1918; Ethel Lindy, born Dec. 23, 1886, who married Chris J. Soelberg, Nov. 13, 1923; Fred F., born Aug. 14, 1889, married Dinnie Hahn, July 4, 1912; Emil A., born Sept. 5, 1891, married Mary Jane Murray, Sept. 16, 1916; Ina, born July 7, 1894, married David H. Murray, brother of Emil's wife, on June 29, 1918; John O., born sept. 24, 1896, married Mary Lorinda French, on July 4, 1923; Edna, born May 6, 1901, married Rhonie N. (Tots) Hansen, Oct. 4, 1919. Of that large family, those still living on Jan. 1, 1976 were Dora (Bess), Ethel (Soelberg), and Edna (Hansen). (Mrs. Soelberg's biography appears elsewhere in this publication.)

The Mabuce family, originally farmers, has produced teachers, ministers, businessmen and skilled workers in many areas. Methodist in religion, they gave strong support to Gilletts Chapel near Bessville, an early church also known as Ridge Church. Blessed with natural singing voices, Mabuces then and in succeeding generations, have been active in Choirs in their various church connections. With high standards of personal integrity and community responsibility, Mabuce descendants have proven themselves to be useful and respected members of the communities over many areas in which they have lived.

Hello - You may have already found this info, which I just stumbled upon looking for something else:

Thread subject on Bollinger Co., Missouri messages:
Z. T. Pierce Killed by brother-in-law, Sanford Harris

The Marble Hill Press, Marble Hill, MO July 18, 1895

Z. T. Pierce Killed, Shot To Death By His Brother-In-Law, Sanford Harris~

Sunday morning last Z. T. Pierce, better known as Taylor Pierce was shot by his brother-in-law, Sanford Harris, and died a few hours later. The shooting was the culmination of a family feud. Pierce's wife, who is the sister of Harris, had left her home and gone to her father's, taking their children with her. Sunday morning Pierce went to Harris' and took the child in his arms and started home with it. As he reached the gate young Harris shot him with a Winchester rifle, the ball severing the spinal cord. Coroner McAnally summoned a jury composed of F. G. Lambert, W. S. Davault, John M. Johnson, William Bailey, Neely Murphy and John Winchester, who returned a verdict in accordance with the facts given above. Sanford Harris, principal, and Robert Harris the father, and Mrs. Pierce, as accessories, are under arrest and having their preliminary trial as we go to press. Taylor Pierce, it will be remembered, three years ago shot and killed Henry Killian and now he has gone the same route. Page 4, col. 3
The best authority for the Eaker, Mouser, Gaines family is Lorena Eaker who published "The Shoe Cobbler's Kin" a two volume genealogy of the Peter Eaker family 1701-1976. You may find a copy of these two books at any large library or on interlibrary loan. The last email address that I have for Lorena is renas@useit.net. Good luck! Jane

I am in agreement with Don, this is a couple, but I have not found any marriage certificate either. The 1860 census report is from Bollinger Co.,Missouri. I haven't been able to find any census reports in Tenn.
Christina was born to John Mansker in KY and this information is on the internet under the website that Don gave you. Some census reports list her as having been born in TN while others list her as having been born in KY. I went to the Mansker family reunion and the little town in that area is real close to the border.
I am descended through Lucinda Sweazea who married James W. Eaker in Bollinger Co., MO (probably the Grassy area), but I haven't been able to find a marriage certificate on them either. I'm the g-g-g-g-g-d/of Christina Mansker/Sweazea.
Margo

I'm looking for information about the parents of Robert Lee Rowe (Row) b. 1874 in Oklahoma (possibly Missouri). He had three brothers. They were split at an early age when both parents died. He once lived in Thayer, MO and eventually moved to Monroe co. MS. where he passed in 1934. Most census records list him as Lee Rowe but I can't find anything prior to 1910. There is a possible hit in 1900 listing a Lee Rowe as a servant/laborer. He was once married to Martha Elizabeth Nunnley (Wonderly).

Any information would be helpful

Dear Margo & others: Have you or any other researchers you know done any research on the SWEAZEA, SWEEZEY [and other surname variations] from the Mathias SWESEY & others of same name, by looking at French Catholic churches where they lived from NJ into MO [thru whatever states they migrated]? It's something I want to do but haven't. At least Mathias SWEEZY (1750-1786) h/o 1st Nancy COULTER & 2nd Racheal Rachel MCDANIEL migrated NJ > PA > NC and d. in duel.
I've had much success with my mom's French relatives having records thanks to French catholicism--COURTOUISE, DECLUE, RULO & related families and that's where I get the idea. thanks. tessie

As I understand it, EAKER is from ECKERT or something like that and it's German.

You seem to have spent time on SWEAZEA, SWEEZEY, etc. That's good. I need to spend more time on them too, going back to NJ when orig. ancestor came to US. And there's one who d. in a duel (i just looked, 3 men had same name Mathias & 1 did die in duel). I'm just overloaded with projects on my mom's side and not finished up. I'm hoping being French maybe SWEAZEA's were Catholic and I'll find church records, but have done nothing on it. that's helped much on my mom's side.
I'll check out the website. thanks. I'll check back into this county on occasion and hope you'll be around when I decide to begin my SWEAZEA research. If not, my loss. t.b.

Susie, don't know if your still out there, but I thought I'd take a chance. I'm starting to look for my Thiele relatives. I'm looking for relatives in Germany of my ggrandfather, ([Carl August]) Rudolph Thiele arrived in the US around 1873 from Kalisz, Prussia which is now part of Poland. Rudolph, as he appears on passenger lists and in immigration documents, married Augusta Anna Rauhut, probably near Muhlhausen, Germany in 1872. She was from Kozmin, also now in Poland. They lived and died in Newark NJ. Any info would be appreciated. I have a few names of some relatives whom I think stayed in Prussia/Poland/Germany. They also may have moved to Germany during one of the change-overs in government around that time: Emma (Thiele?), Paul Thiele. Richard Thiele, who may have been here, gone back, and returned to the US. I haven't found him on passenger lists. Thanks!

Hi. Alfred and Hannah Elizabeth (Lizzie) are my gg grandparents. I actually do have a picture of Hannah Elizabeth Long Haskett Wagoner (long name, eh?!) She's also in a large group photo we have of my other gg grandparents 50th wedding anniversary in 1938. I'm gong to attempt to get those scanned into the computer, and will see about posting them here. Lizzie's daughter, Maude Ethel Wagner, was my grandmother Mildred Myers' mother. She died young. We have a number of pictures of her as well. Hope you are still around this website on occasion to catch my reply!

Sincerely,
Becky Dahm

Emma,

These are wonderful pics! Thanks for posting. Sally Cantwell is my aunt, and we're actually meeting for lunch next week to talk genealogy and exchange what information we have. You probably have the same photos now that I would be able to share. I'd love ANY info you have. Putting together the pieces, bit by bit. I like being able to claim my female lineage seven generations back. I feel LUCKY to be able to do so, as so often it is more difficult to trace the female side, with name changes, etc.

I am Becky Dahm, daughter of Kathy Hohn Dahm, daughter of Mildred Myers Hohn, daughter of Maude Ethel Wagner, daughter of Hannah Elizabeth Long Haskett, daughter of Martha Haskett, daughter of Mary Baugh. Hannah Haskett's father is unknown to me--we know she was raised as Rubin Long's stepdaughter. Do you know anything more of this? Anyhoo, thanks for the reply!!

Sincerely,
Becky

She sent me some pictures of Vest, Maude and their family. I also have a picture of Alfred and Lizzie, which I have attached here. This was sent to me by Dale Wagoner. If you have a different picture, I would love to see it! I am also attaching a picture of Martha Hasket, which was Lizzie's mother. I have lots of info on the Wagners if you are interested.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Emma Brewer

Bollinger County marriage records show Addison S. Maurie and Manerva S. Phillips married on 06 Feb 1890 at bride's residence by Rev. A. J. Robins. Also Addison S. Maurie and Sarah Ogelvie were married 03 April 1897 in Bollinger County. I think this was Sarah Emmaline Ogelvie, daughter of Thomas Jefferson Ogelvie and Rebecca A. Syrency ( Serena ) Robbins. That would match the name of Emma shown in the census records.
Dale Smith
