Searching for Mrs. Rebecca Harris, Barry County, MO

Can anyone provide me with more information about a Mrs. Rebecca Harris of Barry County, MO? I believe she was a sister to my 4x great-grandmother Eliza (Harrison) Lowrey, Howe (1835-1922) of Ohio. There was a short line in the Cassville Republican, Barry Co., MO, from Thursday, October 10, 1895 that reads
"Mrs. Eliza Howe of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, is visiting her sister, Mrs. Rebecca Harris."

Can anybody help me out on this one? Thanks!

I have seen pictures of a home owned by Joshua Thomas in Barry county. There is an article from a newspaper with a woman named Erma Williams, granddaughter of Joshua Thomas. Does anyone know if the house is still standing or persons related are still alive? No one seems to know. Here is a link to the articles.

There is only one Hilton cemetery that we are aware of. We did find William's death certificate which states that he was buried at Hilton cemetery (see attached).

I photographed that entire cemetery a couple of years ago. There were several unmarked/unreadable stones but since he died in 1932 you wouldn't think in would be unreadable, there may not be a stone.

Looking for the cemetery William Edgemond is buried in. Death certificate says Hilton cemetery. Obit says interment was made near Jenkins under the direction of Koon Funeral service. His last name could be spelled Edgmond also. B.12-2-1876 & D. 12-27-1932. He died in Barry Co. MO. Jenkins Twp. Thank you for any help!

I have some additional and different info regarding the listing in the cemetery.
Samuel K Mullins b 03 Nov 1850 Madison, but more likely Perry Co.,MO as family was in Perry for 1850 census.
He md Fanny Gaston 27 Aug 1874 in Perry Co.,MO.
His sons:
(Henry Mullins' brothers) William d 09 Sept 1923 Webb City,Jasper Co.,MO and Andy d 21 Jun 1920 Webb City,Jasper Co.,MO, death certs. give mother as Fanny Gaston, while Henry's death cert. say Fanny Daniels. I have not found Fanny's parents, so perhaps there is a Daniels in there someplace.

In 1910 Duenweg,Jasper,MO father Samuel is in Henry's HH.
Samuel is listed as divorced.
Brother Andy is living with family also.

Marriage license in Jasper Co.,MO 20 Oct 1907 Henry Mullins md Bertha M Walker.
Bertha M Boyd md Samuel C Walker 24 June 1901 with consent of father W.S. Boyd.
I am a descendant of one of Samuel's brothers. Would love exchanging info with any other descendants.

Seeking any information as to where Rebecca Arnold wife of Thomas Arnold may be buried and where to find a death certificate for her. Thomas died in 1924 in Purdy and is supposed to be buried in Cassville. Rebecca was born in Rockcastle CO KY in 1859 the daughter of William Deaton and Martha jane Rose. Have been unable to find any of them in MO cemetery records.

Looking for obit for gg grandmother Elisabeth Roberts Babb, wife of Rev. Samuel Babb. Born 1926 in VA. Lived in Flat Creek, Barry County MO from late 1870s until her death Oct 1907. She may have died in Lawrence County, but not sure. From the Cassville Democrat Oct 5, 1907 "Mrs. Dock Hefley of near town went to Stotts City Thursday morning to attend her mother Mrs. Saml Babb who is growing worse and now unabale to swallow." Stotts City is in Lawrence County MO. She died the following week on Oct 18, but there are no Cassville papers for that week. Can anyone help?

J.H. Wise family of Crane Creek

Could this J.H. Wise married to Belle Ditton and later married Sarah C. and had children Emily and John? Belle Ditton married J.H. Wise in Sedalia, Pettis Co. 4/3/1874. Belle died 2/23/1878 and child died 6/14/1878. Am trying to locate the relatives of J.H. Wise who was originally married to Belle and also locate the name of their child. Any information would be so appreciated.

Unfortunately I could not find an obit and after looking thru the cemetery books, I could not find where he is buried. I am surprised he is not listed in the Calton Cemetery, which is located not far from where he lived. Wished I could have helped...

Sometime ago I believe we communicated in regards to our Rhea lines. Anyway, I looked for a marriage for Ethyl and also for Beck to no avail. I did this not really knowing what time frame either could have married so it is possibe I missed them. Anyway, I did find a marriage between a Wm Ray and Louevia Hays/Hase on 07 July 1880. I don't know if this is your Wm Ray/Rhea but thought I would let you know anyway....diana

I found Margaret Mary Walsh marrying a Victar W. Johnson of San Bernandino CA (he was 24 yrs old) on 22 Aug 1925. A copy of this marriage record can be obtained from the Barry Co Recorders office.

I am assuming she died in CA because I could not find an obit for her nor for her grandmother Martha Jane Smith Howard. However, I did find obits for her parents but had to jot them down in long hand. So please write me at diana777@centurytel.net and I will type them up for you....diana

I found the following: Charles Vaught married Ellen Roberts on 30 Apr 1871. He married Jane Eubanks on 22 Oct 1885.

Sarah Jane Betterton married David Oxford on 03 Mar 1867. Her son James T. Betterton married Malinda A. Downs on 24 July 1886.

Copies of these marriage records can be obtained from the Barry Co Recorders office.

Linda, I checked the Barry Co marriage records for Ione/Hannah Williams from 1920-1930 and found nothing. Also checked for Woodrow and found nothing. Monett is also in Lawrence County and there is a chance she could have remarried there. Good luck.....diana

Might of been living or around Aurora, MO which is in Lawrence which is next to Barry Co., and there were Prichetts there and there are Pritchetts living now also . My branch settled in Polk Co., MO

Hi again Caroleann. I'm not sure if there were school classes at the church or not, I was told once that there was a catholic school accross the street to the east back in the early 1900's and I think it was run by the Little Sisters of the Poor. I found out a year ago that two of my great grandmother's sister's daughters became nuns with the Little Sisters and spent thier adult lives in Warrenton, MO. near St. Louis. I made a trip there afterwards and found their graves. I'm rambling, anyway, I am hoping to find out what school my grandmother and her siblings attended there in or near Pulaskifield. The farm is located about a mile north and 1/2 mile west of the church but I don't know if they attended a catholic school or another school in the area. During one of my trips there I stopped at the church on a sunday, but church had already let out and everyone was gone. I left a large envelope in the door with all of my family history in it along with a letter asking if anyone in the congregation might help me. I never heard a word. This spring I hope to make another trip there and try searching the farmstead with a detector to see if I can find any old items my family lost or threw away or left behind. I have received birth records from the church for my grandmother and her siblings but not much else. I appreciate your offer and I'll take anything you stumble across. I'm near K.C. so if you need anything from me please let me know. Glen

Hello Caroleann, thank you very much for replying to my post. I've been told Pulaskifield was/is also called Bricefield, not sure where I heard that. But yes, we are talking about the same place. Sts. Peter & Paul church is on the S.W. corner and the cemetery is east about 1/4 mile? I've been in touch a few years back with the Priest and he sent me some information on my family and I've been to the cemetery a couple times but the only markers I can find are for my great grandparents Stanley and Josie Bartkowski (Bartkoski). I know Stanley's parents are buried there and possibly his grandfather, but without looking at a plat I can't find their graves. There has to ba a plat for the cemetery showing where everyone is buried or you wouldn't know where to dig for someone else. I'd really appreciate your help with this. Would someone on the list know if there is a plat for the St.s Peter & Paul Cemetery in Bricefield? I am looking for my great grandparents graves and according to the church they are buried there, but they do not have markers. I'm hoping that I can find a plat that would indicate where their graves are. There has to be one somewhere so the people digging new graves don't dig in the wrong location. Thank you

HI, and thank you for your efforts! According to his death certificate he is in Calton Cemetery. From what we've been able to discover his grave is unmarked. I had hoped for an obit in the hopes of gaining some further information about his, such as wife or children. Herman has been somewhat of a man of mystery in the family an little is known about him.

Thank you so much for looking up Beck and Ethyl Odell. I don't have access to Missouri census records here in Tennessee. The time frame for them was 1870 -1925. I don't know if "Beck" is a nickname or actual. I also do not know if he was married to Ethyl or to someone else.

The William Rhea of 1880 could be mine. I will make a note of it and try to learn more. Thanks Diane

I'm confused. I work near Sts Peter & Paul Cemetery in Barry County, MO, in the burg of Pulaskifield. I know nothing about Bricefield. Can you confirm its location? I'd be glad to track down the person with the interment records, if the cemetery is the one I'm talking about.

I'm new to Barry County, but work 2 miles west of Pulaskifield, so drive past the Church twice a day. The church looks like it may have had classrooms at one time. About 5 miles north is St. Mary's church and school in Pierce City.
I would be glad to stop at the church and inquire if you'd like.

The International Genealogical Index at the LDS familysearch site shows that Sarah Jane Calton married John W. Betterton 29 August 1860 in Barry Co. MO.

If you go to the Barry County Missouri Genweb there are marriage records for that period of time. I searched for Groom, Betterton, and found John Betterton married Jane “Kelton”, Aug. 29, 1860. Her name was misspelled.

Also, in the Barry County Genweb site in the Freefind Search bar, put in the name “John W. Betterton” in quotes. Two entries came up: one was the 1860 census in which John W. Betterton was in the household of Nancy Betterton, I assume his mother.

The 2nd entry was in Letters of Administration in which James Betterton is shown as the heir of John W. Betterton, with Morgan Calton listed as Administrator.

On MoBarry I was reading the Obit For Sarah "Sally" Baxter who died in Southwest Missouri in 1905 at the age of 106.
I can't find a Sarah or Sally Baxter on the 1900 census in Southwest Missouri who was born in Illinois in 1799.
The oldest Sarah or Sally Baxter that I find is Sally Baxter in Shell Knob, Barry, MO who was born in KY in 1813.
Does anyone know anything about the Sarah "Sally" Baxter of the obit???

Frances E. Smith Newbean Ethridge - I can't read the original record - can you??

According to Ancestry.com. Missouri Marriage Records, 1805-2002 ** Frances E Newbean married Andrew R Etheredge on 3 Jan 1886 in Barry County, Missouri. I can't read the original record, but I suspect that it does not say NEWBEAN. Can someone else read what it really says????
According to her son's Texas death certificate her maiden name was Frances Smith.
I can't find a record of a Frances Smith marrying a Mr. Newbean.
I can't find her parents.

According to the 1900 census Frances E. Smith Newbean Ethridge was born in Indiana in Dec 1861. Her mother born in Indiana; her father born in Ohio.

I would love some help.
