Hi, great grandfather was John Thomas Gates, died in 1944. We believe him to be buried in the old County Poor Man's Cemetery which is part of Highland Park Cemetery but is not marked well -it is adjacent to HP near a toolshed... Most people buried in this cemetery I am told did not have grave markers. A few do but most don't. In my case the death certificate states burial in Highland Park, but the Davis Funeral home in picking thru their records had no record of which plot he was buried in which then led me to find out that he is 'technically' in Highland Park Cemetery, but not in the cemetery proper. There was also a Community Nursing Home and most of those residents (including my great grandfather) were also buried in the Poor Mans Cemetery. John Sparks at the Adair County Historical Society is a very good contact for information regarding this Poor Man's Cemetery, extremely nice individual, You can call there ask for him for any questions. Thanks, Charity
