Information taken from descendants indicates that John BATES and Emma Rebecca Elizabeth Jane LOVETT were the parents of Margaret Queen Victoria BATES who was a native of Jasper Co., MS (born 13 June 1876, died 18 Nov 1966, according to tombstone in Montgomery, AL).
"Maggie" BATES seems to have had a son:
Gilbert BATES (probably the Gilbert BATES whose WWI
draft registration in Wayne Co. says that he was born
March 1897 in AL).
Maggie then married D. Harmon SIMS (who died after 1930 when in Covington Co., MS) and had these children:
John SIMS b. ca 1898 (never married)
Lee SIMS b. 1900 d. 1985
m. Alma WALTMAN
Willie Ezra SIMS b. 1901 d. 1961 Montgomery, AL
m. 1) Frank McKEE SHIRLEY
m. 2) Isaac VICK
Maggie Ellen SIMS b. ca 1908
m. 1) James Brent ARNOLD
m. 2) Walter HUGGINS
m. 3) Ben TALBOT
Annie Laurie SIMS b. ca 1910 d. 1941
m. 1) unknown WEST
m. 2) unknown TURNAGE
m. 3) Jim CARVER
engaged to William C. WATTS at death
Ruby E. SIMS b. ca 1912 d. before 1961
Maggie (BATES) SIMS's obituary (1966 Montgomery, AL) includes among her survivors sons Gilbert SIMS [sic] and Lee SIMS of Waynesboro, MS, and a sister Mrs. Emma LONG of Laurel, MS [and other survivors in Montgomery].
In the 1930 census of Wayne Co., MS, Maggie's mother Emma BATES was living with her son-in-law and daughter, Julius and Emma LONG (and their children J.D., Marie, Ruth,
Wilma?, and Q? C. LONG, all born between 1919 and 1929).
If you have access to published cemetery records of Wayne Co. and surrounding areas, I hope you will share with me any information that you might find therein about the above family.
Actually, I will be happy to hear from anyone with ANY information about this BATES / SIMS / LONG family!
