FORT EUSTIS, VA. – Services were held Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at Ft. Eustis Regimental Chapel in Ft. Eustis, Virginia for Sgt. Joe Edward Howard Sr., who departed this life Oct. 1, 2011.
Joe was born in Tunica, Mississippi, the oldest son of the late Boyd J. Howell and Gertrude Savage.
He was a retired Sergeant from the U.S. Army, with 23 years of service including the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
He was a member of the Ft. Eustis Regimental Chapel, a Mason, Past Potentate of Zem Temple No. 22, a member of the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Joe leaves to cherish his memories, his son, Joe E. Howard Jr. and granddaughter, Ericka Renee Howard, both of Newport News, Va; siblings, Willie Chatman, Katherine Chatman, Carl Howell and Illinois “Sister” Craft, all of Youngstown, Ohio; four great-grandchildren, Kamora Howard, Kelisha, D’hani and Carlotta Homlett, all of Newport News; three sisters-in-law, Sandra K. Chatman (Jeff), Patricia A. Chatman (Willie) and Ann Howell (Carl); and favorite cousins, Ethel Mae Gooden and Ora Mae Watson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Anita Howard; siblings, Sylvester Howell, Robert Chatman, Jeff Chatman, Charlie Mae Chatman, Minnie “Shine” Chatman and Ida Mae Chatman.
