They do not know where his gravesite is But it is NOT Smith county.

Questions:
Is the Bethel Cemetery connected to a church, if so which one and is there a way of contacting them?
Was Bethel First United Methodist Church associated with Bethal Baptist Church?
What school would have been in or near Enid in the late 1800s or early 1900's? I thought perhaps school records would help.

I am looking for any information on the African American family of Asberry and Tanzie Bearden that lived in Tallahatchie, MS. They are listed in the 1920 and 1930 census. Asberry was born Dec 1875 in Georgia and was the son of Martin W and Angeline Bearden. His wife was Tanzie Taylor born Feb 1877 in MS. They had the following children: Oscar, Rayfield, Elaine, Rosa, Fred, Katie, Lymon, Vernon, Mary Elizabeth (married Warren Freeman), Augusta, Clifton and Edward. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Seemed to have hit a brick wall. Thank!

I am looking for my Great-Great Grand parents "graves", John Kincaid died after 1920, but before 1935 in Tallahatchie or Macel, Mississippi.
I am also looking for his wife Louise Leonard-Kincaid they were married 1878. they had 15 kids (Moses, Robert, Sarah, Jessie, Addie, James, Sallie, Cook, Samuel, Augusta, Annie, Mary, Roberta, Jimmie and Ada Kincaid. They lived in Grenada also. Louise may passed away in Macel, MS after 1951.

I didn't find a burial record on Findagrave.com. I checked newspaper archives on GenealogyBank.com but didn't find a death notice or obituary; newspapers from the locations your family lived are not included in the database but I checked anyway.

You don't have Louise / Lou in the 1940 census: she is in Tallahatchie living with A. C. ALLEN and Frances? (difficult to read, might say Fanesa?).

Here is the link to the volunteer-run Mississippi genweb site. I checked both Grenada and Tallahatchie counties but didn't find a burial location for John and Louise. You might find a lookup volunteer on the county sections of the website or a link to perhaps a historical society or other information to help you.

I am desperately looking for any information on my great grandmother and her family. After some research I have found that her name was probably Emalie Walters (Our whole lives we have known it as Emma Lee Walters (Nevils after she was married). She was born October 10, 1923/1925 to Phil and Bettie Walters in Mississippi. According to the US Census she lived in Tallahetchie, MS around 1930. Her siblings was Grace, Edward(Bo), Phil, and Fred (Freddie). If anyone has any information on my great grandmother or her family it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello fellow Ancestry members:

I have been searching for my ancestry this past year and have made incredible gains-but I am beginning to run cold. I am of African-American descent on my father's side and his surname is Herron. The majority of us Herrons now reside in Memphis, Tennessee-a good 50 miles north of where we originated. From as early as I can get, my great grandfather a good seven generations down's name is Archie Herron. He lived in Tallahatchie, Mississippi at the time of the 1870 Census. However, he is described as having been born in Virginia as well as his parents. He is aged 47, which means he was born in 1823-before slavery was abolished.

Also, on race he is described as mulatto-which leads me to believe his father (carrying the Herron surname) could have been white. I ask anyone to help me in this matter-if you are white a Herron, and know your family once owned slaves at one point it would be of great appreciation if you could contact me.

So glad to hear from you. You're the first of Alexander Nelson Bell's descendants with whom I've had contact. As I stated in my previous query, I'm a descendant of Alexander Nelson Bell's brother, Robert Knox Bell. I do have a little information on two of Thomas Monroe Bell's brothers, but really don't have anything on the sisters. I've been working on the siblings of Alexander Nelson Bell and Robert Knox Bell. I also have some information on the Knox and Bell families in Lincoln County, North Carolina. I'll be glad to share what I have.

Thomas Monroe Bell was my Great Grandfather. He was born April 28, 1848 in Tallahatchie County, MS. He married Martha Harper in 1877 in Coahoma County, Jonestown, MS. He died December 10, 1932 in Shelby County, Tennessee, Memphis.His daughter Beulah Bell was my grandmother. She was born June 8, 1879 in Coahoma County, MS, Lula. I have not been able to verify the parentage of Isaac Dougherty (aka Doherty, Doucherty, Daughtery). According to notes that I received from other Dougherty cousins, Jacob Slimp (Slemp) married Rachel Daugherty. I have not personally been able to verify this information either.

Yes, I am a descendant of Cynthia Dougherty and James Knox Bell on my mother's side; also a descendant of Elizabeth Dougherty through Evarilla who married their son James Alexander Bell. I am a descendant of Margaret Knox's brother, John Knox, on my father's side; John married a Bell who may or may not be related to my other Bell line.

Died on Jun. 4, 2011 and resided in Ft. Wayne, IN.

Quenton L. Sanders, 91, Ft. Wayne, Indiana died at 3:00 pm, Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Regency Place of Ft Wayne.

He was born in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi to the late George and Katie (Ellis) Sanders.
He married Zoma I. Lee. They have been married 64 years. She survives.

Quenton was a WWII Army veteran and attended the Baptist church and was previously was employed as a glass mold maker and worked at Foster Forbes and Atlas Foundry. He loved all his family dearly and never met a stranger.
He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and barbequing.
Quenton was a bass singer for the Marion Travelers.

Funeral Service is at 12:00 Noon, Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Greater New Light Missionary Baptist
Church, 303 W. 14th St., Marion with Rev. Larry Batchelor officiating. Burial will be in Marion
National Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior the service Thursday at the church.

I'll share anything I have. As you probably know, Dorothy Cynthia Dougherty md. Robert Knox Bell. Their son, James Alexander Bell, md. Evarilla Dougherty, the illegitimate daughter of Elizabeth Dougherty. That's one of the family mysteries. Who was Evarilla's father? Was he already married, or was it a family member? I have never had an opportunity to research in the Charleston courthouse to see if I could find any records (although I doubt it). There were Goodspeed-type biographies published for Amos W. Dougherty and Mansel Dougherty which were consistent in the names of the Dougherty children. Some of these I've been able to trace, but some not. I found some family trees stating that Rachel Slimp Dougherty died in 1876, but there is no documentation and I've not found her in the 1870 census. I would be happy to compare notes.

I am a descendant of Isaac and Rachel Slimp Doughterty through two of their daughters, Elizabeth and Dorothy Cynthia. I've been piecing together information on the other brothers and sisters. My lines stayed in Mississippi but several others settled in Arkansas, Illinois & California.

MANSFIELD: Joseph Nathan CARTER, 82, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 in Mansfield Memorial Homes after an extended illness.

Mr. Carter was born Monday, April 22, 1929 to the late Oscar and Savannah Carter in Sumner, Mississippi and had lived in Mansfield, Ohio the past 62 years.

He retired from CPC/GM Plant in 1991 after 29 years of service.
Joe was a member of the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church where he served in the Male Chorus, and attended Sunday School faithfully.

Joe is survived by 3 sons: Woodrow (Audry) Carter, Mansfield, Kenneth Carter, Ontario, and McKenzie Williams, Louisville, Kentucky; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one step grandchild; Godson: Jarvis Hudson-Bay, Mansfield; former wife with whom he remained friends; Eunice Carter, Mansfield, Ohio

In addition to his parents Joe was also preceded in death by 6 sisters, Precious Carter, Earnestine Carter, Emmerline Carter-Wallace, Eva Carter-Fortner, Roberta Carter-Pearson, and Alberta Carter-Molet, 7 brothers, Dewitt Carter, Chesterfield Carter, Willie Carter, James Carter, Oryzine "OC" Carter, Eurlicous Carter, and CW Wheeler.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 10:00 A.M. in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church with his pastor Rev. Clinton N. Hearns officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery, Mansfield, Ohio.

The family will also receive friends at the home of Eunice, 500 Parkview St., Apt. 2, daily from 4-8 p.m. till the day of services.

Well I dont have much....So far this is what I have found coming from his DD214 Ester (middle initial wasnt used but is on SSN record) Sidney. Born in Webb Mississippi 12 May 1937. African American Male. Joined the US Navy 11/1/1956 in Little Rock AR, and was discharged HON 01/24/1963. He passed away in August 1998 in St. Louis MO and is buried at Jefferson Barracks.
