Brown families

I am following my stepsister's paternal line back (her father was Alfred Jack Brown, Jr. (b. Jan 13, 1922 in Copiah Co. - now deceased) and his parents were Alfred Jack Brown, Sr., and Addie Smith. I found this couple, newly married on the 1900 Copiah Co., census. Tracking back, mainly through census data, I believe that this person's father was J. (John?) P. Brown, shown on the 1880 Simpson Co., census, apparently with a second wife and with Alfred in their household.

Going back further, I find John P. Brown (right age to be the same person) with apparently his first wife & family. Next to him was an Alfred Brown of age to be his brother and close to them was an Isham Brown with a Mary A. (who was apparently ANOTHER second wife) born in Georgia.

Does anyone know anything about these families or connect in some way? Thank you. I do have some data (mainly census) to share; mostly, I offer a lot of gratitude on my stepsister's behalf and, perhaps, some newly discovered cousins. Thank you.

Isham Brown

Oh, wonderful! A probate fight ought to have produced a number of documents & that will certainly help us. [And, your typing is just fine.]
All I have so far are census records on this family.
I am following back John P. Brown who was the father of Alfred Jack Brown, Sr.
I'll get those together & send them to you via e-mail (too many to type here).

Hi, I'm sending you the census work I have acquired on this family and an e-mail address of a lady who is married to a descendent of your John P. Brown. I have concluded that I was perhaps hooking up with the wrong Brown line, so I've put my query on hold until I can get some more documentation.

Lucinda 'Lucy' Brown

Lucinda "Lucy" Brown was b about 1816, probably in SC. She married Hugh Butler, about 1834, probably in Simpson Co, Ms. Hugh was a son of James and Margaret "Polly" Fortenberry Butler, of Lancaster Co, SC. The Butlers and Browns settled in Simpson Co.

There is an oral family story that Lucy Brown's father was a wealthy man who disowned Lucy for marrying "that ne'er do well, Hugh Butler". There is reportedly a letter to this effect. If the story is true, then her name probably would not appear in anyone's will, but she might be listed in the family Bible. I have heard Isham was her father and I have heard Samuel was her father. If anyone has any information on Lucinda "Lucy" Brown Butler, please contact me.

I'm sorry. My information on the Browns is very limited. I will pass your message along to a friend who is also trying to reseach the family. Perhaps she can help. I am totally stuck in Simpson Co with my Browns, Butlers, and Whites. (Lucy Brown married Hugh Butler. Their daughter, Margaret Malinda married Leonard Lafayette White.)

Thanks for responding

Loretta, it is my understanding that the Samuel Brown in Simpson Co., MS was born in GA. Right this minute I can't remember what county. He was the son of Samuel Brown Sr. who came to Georgia with James Orglethorpe. Samuel Jr. was in Wayne Co., MS in 1815. There was some kind of property exchange between him and Moses Copeland in 1815 Wayne Co.MS.
My interest in Samuel Brown is with a daughter Emily Brown. She is shown as having married a Mr. Copeland. I would like to know the given name of this Mr. Copeland, and any other information about him. Anyone know?
Thanks
Charlie Copeland Grafton
