My line of descent is through Samuel and Ava Jane (Nichols) Floyd who settled in Simpson County ca 1823/24 when the county was formed. Samuel had a brother, James Floyd, who was listed in the 1840 and 1841 censuses of Simpson County. Samuel and James were from Horry County SC and moved through GA to MS. It is believed that James was deceased by 1850, but I have worked with several researchers who descend through Floyd females in Simpson County and our belief is that they were daughters of James. My search of census records indicate that two of the five daughters of James Floyd have not been identified. I have said all of this because this week I have made a discovery that I cannot absolutely prove but do believe it has merit. John Curtis lived next door to James Floyd in the 1840 census of Simpson County. In 1850 and 1860 John and Athy A. (-?-)Curtis lived next to or near children of James Floyd and Samuel Floyd. I also know that one of Samuel's sons bought land from John Curtis. Athy A. was born SC and John GA AND I noticed that Athy's age fits one of the missing daughters of James Floyd. In 'Georgia Marriages to 1850' on Ancestry.com. I found a marriage record for JOHN CURTIS AND ATHA ANN FLOYD on 9 Jul 1839 in Upson County GA!! I believe Atha Ann Floyd Curtis is the oldest daughter of James Floyd. Now can anyone tell me where the family was in 1870? So far, I have been unable to find them. Martha
