Courtney's SC->MS 1790's

I've got a mystery. I have an ancestor Elizabeth Courtney who married an Ezra A. Hudson and died in childbirth in Darlington SC in 1843. She isn't related to any of the Courtneys there, however there are Elizabeths aplenty among Courtneys (who were part of the same family) who had moved to Simpson and Amite Co.s in about 1790's. My guess is that she is the daughter of James Courtney and his second wife Ann Giles (the first wife was Elishabah Laws who died in MS in 1809.) Elizabeth was born in 1816. Does anyone know this family?

Hi Susie,
I have some dates from other net sources on your family of Courtney. Do you have any further marriages and birth/death places for James and Ann's children other than the Kelly/Whatley connection? I am diligently looking for something to connect Elizabeth to the Elizabeth Courtney who married Ezra Ashby Hudson and died giving birth to their only child. The Hudsons lived in Darlington County SC, but my notes say Elizabeth was already living in Mississippi by the time she was born. Most Courtney were moving out of Darlington around 1800 when she was born. Do you know if she came back to marry or am I up the wrong tree entirely?

Mary,
Sorry, I don't have any other information on the other Courtneys. Mine moved from Craven County, South Carolina to Simpson County, Mississippi, Hunt County, Texas, and then to Frederick, Tillman County, Oklahoma. I don't know if they lived anywhere else between South Carolina and Texas. I'll let you know if I come across anything.

Do you have any Reynolds from Virginia or Ohio? Mine moved from Meigs County or Gallia County Ohio to Winslow, Washington County, Arkansas.

About that wrong tree. I have also received data about another Elizabeth which I ascribe to. I sent the one About James and Ann incorrectly. Although the date of birth I mentioned was 1800 that was the date for the Louisiana Elizabeth who married James Kirby and died 1844 after having six Kirby children. My Elizabeth should have read 1816 -1843 and mother of only one child. Her parents were from Craven and went to Simpson Co., MS. I'm still bouncing off brick walls. My Reynolds line goes back to Thomas in about 1745, but I have no location for the Reynolds until almost 100 years later with a greatgrandson who was then in Maryland. The family must have been in Maryland for quite some time, as a newspaper article about one of them in 1900 stated "from an old Maryland Family" By the 1880's my great grandfather had moved to Norfolk and remnants of that family are still there although I have no contact with them since the 1960's. Thjere aren't any in Ohio that I know of, but that all reamains to be seen.

Elizabeth Courtney is my ggggreat grandmother. She married James Burney in about 1836. The 1840 Simpson County, Ms. census has them living next door to James and Ann (Giles) Courtney. I would love to exchange more family information.
