Re: Maiden name of Elizabeth WILKINSON

William Wilkinson married Elizabeth "Betsy" Moore, the daughter of John and Mary Moore of Duplin Co., North Carolina.

Elizabeth was unmarried and under-age as of 18 April 1785, when slaves in her father John Moore's estate were distributed to his heirs.

Elizabeth "Betsy" Moore married William Wilkinson in 1788:

Duplin Co, North Carolina Marriage Records
WILKINSON, William & Betsy MOORE 1 Feb 1788 Bond William WILKINSON, Jr

There was further activity in John Moore's estate in 1793. Elizabeth was listed as Betsy the wife of William Wilkinson in those documents.

Images of the estate documents I have mentioned are accessible on-line through FamilySearch. Unfortunately this site will not accept links. I will be happy to supply them if anyone is interested. My disguised email is mcalTage@cox.net. Change the "T" to a "p" and you will have the correct address.

Janice

I have just discovered that my great grandmothers maiden name was Brabham. Her name was Arie Ann Bennett Brabham from Amite Mississippi. The family story is that my great grandfather was raised by nuns in New Orleans and the nuns had arranged a marriage for him with a girl who had been raised on a plantation. She was born in 1856 and died in 1936. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciates

Shannon, sorry about the first name mixup. To get to my Lane tree go to public trees and search for charles maurice sr Lane. My Lane tree should be the first on the list, if not, then Charles Maurice sr Lane's parents are Charles Wesley and Nettie Sleppy Lane. I started my research for my grandchildren after retirement, I married a Mixon from Magnolia Ms so my children are 1/2 Lane and 1/2 Mixon so I have the Amite/Pike county ms Mixon line in my tree also.

Laure, thanks for the post. The John Lane in Amite co ms in 1820 had one male child under 10. I think that child was my g-grandfather Middleton Lane born in Ga around 1814, but I have no proof yet. The only information I have on John Lane is the 1820,1830 and 1840 us census and a deed John Lane issued when he moved from Amite co to Pike co in 1835.There could be additional info at the Amite co court house on this Lane family but living in Birmingham Al makes it difficult to do much research in Liberty Ms.

I have just posted my family tree to this web site which takes my line back to Middleton with proof and includes the Lane family cementery in Pike co Ms(listed as Lane-Lenoir cementery on your other web site) and my grandfathers family bible, it also includes some photos of the family and the original Middleton Lane home built with slave labor and still standing on Hamp Lee Road in Pike co Ms.

Thanks again for the post and if you have other Lane information from Amite or Pike co Ms please let me know.

Charles "Maurice" Lane Jr

Actually, if you go during the week you can stop by the caretakers building and there is a map, and an index, so you can find where the tombstones are without going to the library.
There is also a map on the Find A Grave page which I uploaded a few weeks ago. You still need the index listing from the caretaker, or the library, to find a specific tombstone. The map on Find A Grave gives the Alphabetic Section Code locations.

Sure, I'd be glad to get your information. My husband descends through Nehemiah's son Louis F. Williams who came from Carroll County, Georgia to Talladega County, AL (might have been part of Clay Co part of the time and maybe even part of Cleburne Co., AL). I have no proof but think he died in Talladega County after or about the time of the Civil War. At least I've not found him after the war. I'm still searching for a marriage record for him and his wife "letitia/latisha/etc....and wonder if he was in Mississippi with Nehemiah when he married. He was not married in GA as far as I can tell. You may email me directly at w4ctk at farmerstel dot com. I think Nehemiah came from SC but went to Mississippi when it was still part of the Mississippi Territory.

My son just returned from Europe. He was a U.S delegate in the People to People program. Today we were looking at the photos from his trip and discovered one taken, in Normandy, of the gravesite of Milton E. Cothern Jr . We immediately thought that it would be wonderful if we could find relatives of Pvt Cothern and share this photo. After a short internet search we found your post asking for information about Mr. Cothern.

As you can see from the attached photo, he placed American flags on his gravesite.

I couldn't find them in the 1850 census to figure out if this is the correct Raiford or not, but there is a Raiford Lenard buried in Tilton Cemetery in Jayess on Find a Grave. Here's the link to his page:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=55...

Rhonda, I don't know anything about a List of railroad workers from that area. But if you can get to McComb. Go to the railroad depot. At the foot of the steps that lead off of Main Street, look to your left on the walkway . There is a Memorial laid in brick. Approximate 200 names Listed there. Also to the right is a Train Engine. It has Memorial Stones. Ronnie

Hi,

My name is Alberta Vaughn and I'm doing a family search on Hills. My great-grand mother's name is Gertrude Hill but they called her Trudie. She came back to Pike in the 1920s as a knox. What is your grandfather's name. Maybe they are related.

Albertavaughn@hotmail.com
