Classification: Query
Surnames: Vanarsdale, Ruffin, Drury
Ruffin Vanarsdale and his wife Salllie were slaves of Lucas Vanarsdale as was their son Dru/Drew. So Drew could not have been purchased from Lucas. Now Lucas could have purchased him from someone when Drew was 8 years old. There is no record that I have found regarding the slaves that Lucas purchased, from whom or the date of purchase. There are no records, not even in the county deeds.

Can you tell me more about this?

I don't know whether or not Lucas actually purchased any of his slaves from William D. Ruffin, since there is no list of slave names. Unless there is a will, inventory, family bible, plantation book or bill of sale it is just about impossible to find this out. So it ends up being an educated guess at best.
