OBITUARIES
William Lowrey Compere, Sr.
Funeral services for Newton educator and minister, Dr. William Lowrey Compere, Sr., 92, who died of pneumonia at Newton Regional Hospital, January 5, 1999, were held January 7 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Frank Harmon officiating. Burial took place in the Newton County Memorial Gardens.
Dr. Compere was retired president of Clarke College. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Newton, a graduate of Mississippi College, and did graduate work at New Orleans Seminary. He received a Master Degree from Peabody University. He had served as pastor of churches for the area for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Senter Compere. His survivors include a daughter, Jackie Boyd of Burleson, Texas; two sons, Mr. Bill Compere, Jr., of Burleson, Texas and Dr. John Senter Compere of Astoria, Oregon; one sister, Mabel Clare Hardin of Calhoun City, MS; two brothers, Boradus S. Compere of Jackson and R. Searcy Compere of Brandon; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas offering at First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Darryl Boyd, Dewayne Boyd, David Boyd, Lee Compere, Gray Starling and Claton Boyd.
