My family is from Tchula, MS and They are Williams. My grand mother is Annie B. Lee from Equen Plantation in Minter City, MS. Her mother is Fannie Mae Williams. Her grandmother is Henrietta Williams. I am doing research now on my family.

But, this Sallie does not seem to have the maiden name "Blakley" that you mention in your original post.

Also, this Sallie was not married to Wade Hale. This Sallie was married to Reuben Aldridge Hale (1894 - 1967).

I think it is too much of a coincidence that this Sallie and your Sallie have the exact same birth and death dates. Could you have her maiden name wrong?

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Lillie B. Holmes will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Antioch Baptist Church. Mrs. Holmes departed this life Feb. 10, 2013, at Park Vista Nursing Home.

Mrs. Holmes was born May 30, 1927, in Greenwood, Mississippi, a daughter of William and Mary Venters Boyd, coming to the Mahoning Valley many years ago.

She was a devoted homemaker and member of the Antioch Baptist Church.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sons, Jerry and his wife, Dollaine Holmes, and Ben Holmes, all of Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Darnell Holmes of Los Angeles, and Robert Holmes of Tacoma, Wash.; her sister, Willie D. Plater; her sister-in-law, Sarah J. Venters, both of Youngstown, OH; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ben R. Holmes, whom she married in 1950; her son, Carnell Holmes; two sisters; and three brothers.

Friends may call today from 3 to 5 p.m. at Washington Funeral Home. Youngstown, Ohio

The family will receive friends Tuesday, one hour prior to services at the church.

Interment will be at Tod Homestead Cemetery

If so, you might be able to find her in one of the censuses.

Oh I did not realize your mother was adopted into a McLean family. I believe my grandmother was a McLean by birth, the family story, though vague, says she was born out of wedlock and then raised by her grandparents 1892. 1911 she got married and at that time she was an "orphan" she said, we believe the grandparents were dead, as well as her birth mother (maybe the plague or terrible influenza epidemics of the late 1800's that swept thru the area?) She may have been raised by aunts/uncles or other relatives before she was married at age 19. I am trying to find the first name of her mother and of her grandparents (maternal). Or any of her relatives, for that matter. Then I will try to find out her paternal side. It is said her father was a Ringold--and there were quite a few Ringolds in the state and that area at the time.

Cathy -- my mother was Claire McLean -- she was adopted by Rosa and John McLean of Itta Bena, MS. I found out her birth name was Eula Louise Edge but have found out nothing more. She did always say that she had a brother. She died in 1954 and is buried with the McLean's in Itta Bena. Brad Williford is my nephew and kinda the family historian. We have been trying to find my mother's biological family for years. She was adopted out of a Memphis children's home. Hopefully, we can connect and discuss both families. Thanks!!

Unknown Little Girl on Census - who is she?

I found something in the 1940 Census the other day that has me perplexed.

My grandparents, Henry H. and Jewell Fincher are listed living in Beat 2, Leflore County, Mississippi in 1940. Also listed is a little girl named Jane, age 3. My grandmother was apparently the respondent and said that Jane was a daughter.

My mother, Edna Lynn, was born in 1945. She was always told that she was the first child. No Jane was ever mentioned. My grandparents are long deceased, but my great aunt, grandmother's sister, is still living and says that my grandparents did not have a child named Jane. She was close to them, but did not live nearby.

My mother has no memory of an older child in the household, so Jane was gone by the time my mother has memories.

So, who was Jane? Was she the daughter of a friend that was living with my grandparents for some reason? Wonder how I would figure this out?

I am Jeff Hedges. Grandchild to Amber (Greenwood)Miller. I am trying to trace our family roots. According to my great grandparents, passing down to their children, various great cousins and others, I am and my family are decendants to Leflore. I can not connect the dots. YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mrs. Rosie Lee Brown, 83, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Health Center.

Mrs. Brown was born on Aug. 9, 1928, in Greenwood, Mississippi, (Leflore County) a daughter Will and Nina Meeks Donley.

She attended the Union Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio. She was formerly employed as a cook/housekeeper at 76 Truck Stop for five years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving son, Johnny Williams of Youngstown, Ohio; her sisters, Macie Campbell of Greenwood, Ethel White of Clarksdale, Miss. and Lubertha Donley of Chicago; her brothers, J.W. and Willie Donley of Illinois, Jim McCoy of Saint Ann, Illinois; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willie Brown, whom she married in 1962, and who died in 1984; and a brother, John Donley.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Mrs. Rosie Lee Brown, will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Washington Funeral Home.
Friends may call Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home and Wednesday, one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

I have been trying to trace information on the Hudgins side of the family. Papa, or Uncle Jimmy as ya'll called him, was my Gfather. I can find nothing about him. All I know is he told me his people came to MS rolling a "hogshead" ( a barrel filled with their belonging. He said from AL. Do you know anything else? He always said we had an Indian in our family somewhere along the way- can't come up with anything on the Indian line either.

Hello--Are you still compiling info for McLean in Leflore County? Do you have any info on Eula McLean Razor (my paternal grandmother whom we do not know much about at all)? I do not know yet if she was born there, but she had my father there in Itta Bena, MS before moving to Henry Co. IN (New Castle) and dying there in Indiana when my father was 6 years old.

Compton Family Plantation in Leflore Co.

I am searching for any information on the plantation in Leflore Co. owned by THOMAS ALEXANDER COMPTON(1802-1861)& his wife ELIZA SHAW COMPTON(1805-1884). After THOMAS A. died, ELIZA & their children, especially CHARLES SHAW COMPTON (1838-1876), continued to farm the Leflore Co. land along with land in Madison Parish, LA. CHARLES SHAW COMPTON died in Leflore Co. & the family thinks he is buried there on the plantation. ELIZA also died in Leflore Co., BUT is buried in Vicksburg where the family had their main residence. Would like to know where CHARLES SHAW COMPTON is buried and name and location of COMPTON plantation please!!! Will gladly share COMPTON & SHAW info.

I do recall that LB had a family, but did not know them. Marion is only slightly older than me, but I never knew if he married. I last saw him at my oldest brother's funeral in Greenwood, about 12 or 13 years back. My dad was Roy Lee Kelly. He and the Myers moved to the Morgan City/Sidon area around 1920. I recall that the younger sister Perlie Kelly Hopson lived near to the Myers, and we would visit both families back in the late 40's. Bob

Hi. Maggie was my dad's older sister. I lost contact with this line mostly when I left home for college in the mid '50s.

Charley's parents were F.M. Myers and Sallie A. ? I have Ora Lee as Gloria born 1898. John F. is John Franklin. First wife was Florence? died after 1910 census. He married Aunt Maggie 9 Oct 1912 in Mayfield, Montgomery County, MS. I knew L.B., Lottie, J.C. and Marion. Marion was still living in the early 1990's. I know L. B. died in 1980. Flowers or Walker?

My Father, Dickie "Peepsite" Flowers recently passed away taking with him any of the close guarded hints he may have had to help answer my riddle. Who was he really?

This much I think I know... After he was born in Greenwood in 1944, his mother, Floyd Lee Wates (Flowers) never married his biological father. Thus lending him her Father's (Joe Flowers) surname. I have seemed to verify Joe Flowers as one of (the many) sons of Cicero Flowers. It is rumored that his (and his sister Mary) shared a father who was a Porter in the Army Air Corps stationed at AAF Greenwood named Herbert Carlton Walker. (My father also believed this to be true.) I have heard that Herbert Walker was from Texas, Arkansas, and Mississippi but I have not been able to verify any of this.

He and Mary were raised by their Grandfather and Grandmother, Joe and Cora Flowers until around 1962 when he left Greenwood. He ended up in Oregon in 1967 where he met my mother, got married and had 7 children. Nobody in my family knows where he went for sure but I believe that he was on the same search I am, just trying to figure out who his father was. Any clues, hints, rumors or facts about my family would be GREATLY appreciated.... Thanks in advance.

Prior to 1900 and possibly earlier my GGgrandparents Louis and Ann Williams resided in Rutledge, Morgan, Georgia before relocating to Minter City, LeFlore, MS. The parents of 16 children my Ggrandfather Fred was apparently the youngest (16 in 1900 census) and last to leave home. An older brother Louis Williams Jr., married Blammie Louis before the family migrated to MS. Someone corrected the incorrect spelling shown on the online 1900 census to Blannie. If you know or are the person that made the correction and hopefully related please lets talk.

I have a Gladys who used The Name Ms EDWIN M. MAYNARD. In 1938 she (Gladys) Registered for power at a house in Greebwood, MS as MS Edwin M. Maynard She used that name until she remairred in 1948 or 49. Looking for someone that might have lived by her or could have Known her. Everyone put on your thinking cap, ask your grandparens, Parents and anyone who could have known. They may be a good story behind all this. I am sure there is someone out there that remembers that night as scarey as it was.

MARION: Rosemary Hall, age 61, of Marion, Ohio passed away early Thursday afternoon at Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio.

Born in Greenwood, Mississippi on June 12, 1950 to Martin and Nellie (Winters) Wade, she married Johnny Hall who survives in Alabama.

A devoted member of True Faith Church of God In Christ, she served as a Pastor's Aide and the church secretary.

Surviving are her three sons, James Carlos Prude and Mark Prude, both of Marion and Michael Wright of Columbus; her four daughters, Felicia Prude, Rose (Leroy) Russell and Lashaunda (Kenneth) Drake, all of Marion, Ohio and Chayla Prude of Mansfield, Ohio; her brother; Pastor Michael Wade of Marion, Ohio; and two sisters, Ella Cochran of Marion and Ida (Samuel) Bracy of Delaware; and 20 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, John Wright; and a sister, Ruthie Moore.

Friends may call Thursday from 5-8 PM at the True Faith Church of God in Christ.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at King's Temple Apostolic Church with Pastors Michael Wade and Tyrone Kaiser officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Heights Memory Garden.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to True Faith Church of God in Christ and expressions of sympathy may be sent directly to her family by logging onto www.hughesallen.com and opening her obituary.
