Would love to make a connection! James A STEWARD was born in 1800 in South Carolina. He died about 1860 in , Desoto Co., Mississippi. James married Agnes FREEMAN daughter of Wiley FREEMAN and Mary "Polly" HOLLINGSWORTH about 1840. Agnes was born about 1815 in Rolesville, Wake Co., North Carolina. She died before 1870 in , Marshall Co., Mississippi. James and wife Agnes are in the 1850 Kemper Co., MS census. There is a James Stewart in the 1840 Kemper Co. census; don’t know if this is the same, but the age fits. Have never found marriage record for Agnes and James (Jim.)

In 1860, wife and children in DeSoto Co., MS census but James is not in the family. Children were Joshua who married Rebecca A. J. Freeman; James A. “Jim” , b 1845, d 1921, married Ann Merritt Watkins; Peter ; Mary , Effie who married Elijah Henry Clanton; and Clemmie.

Surname can be found spelled both Steward and Stewart; however I believe most family members use the Steward spelling.
