Any info on Bessie would be appreciated- she is my great-grandmother. I am also trying to find information about Bessie's 2nd husband. His last name was Earles or Earls ???. They were married between 1920 & 1923. Her 1st husband had the last name of Bell (don't know his first name). He died before 1920 & I know they had two children-Preston & Otsie. She was a neice to J.W. Meador, who worked at the wagon wheel company in Laurel. As far as I can tell she never left Laurel. Bessie & her 2nd husband lived at 1618 2nd Ave. Laurel.

Hello, Michelle,

My name is Bellinda MYRICK-BARNETT and I am the list administrator for the EARLE, MERRICK, and LAMKIN rootsweb lists.

When I saw your post, I was hoping that I might could help because of the EARLE connection which might connect with mine as well as my MYRICK family group was in Jones & Jasper Counties, Mississippi with many in Laurel from around 1820 with many still there today. Mine branch went into Simpson County, Mississippi near Magee sometime prior to the 1890s and then my grandfather and grandmother went into West Carroll Parish, Louisiana in the 1920's.

You will find much of your ancestry back into the 1600's in this email as well as going to some of the url addresses listed below and following the links provided.

Posting this to the board and to the list as well as I'm not sure which way you will receive it first.

Re: Your great grandmother, Bessie Elizabeth MEADOR, born: 1889, died: May 30, 1977 prob. in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi, who married husband # 2: Thomas Lloyd EARL(E)(S,) born Dec 5, 1885, died Sept 2, 1927. They are both buried in Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi.

Your information states that the 2nd husband died before 1920 but, apparently, from the information shown further below in this email from a D. COLVIN, Thomas Lloyd EARL(E)(S) died in 1927 and, according to your information Bessie Elizabeth MEADOR had previously been married to a man named ? BELL. Your information also stated that Bessie and her 1st husband were the parents of two sons, Preston EARL(E)(S) and Otsie EARL(E)(S.)

Now, in the information immediately below, you will see where I found the name of Thomas Lloyd EARL(E)(S) as that of the 2nd husband of Bessie Elizabeth MEADOR. Then, this individual who made the post has the same surname as you COLVIN with first initial D. so they are probably someone that you know and are more closely related to...they show the names of Charles MEADOR and B. Alice PURVIS as the parents of Bessie Elizabeth MEADOR but I am finding a slight different in the name of Bessie's mother and that being: This D. COLVIN's email address from 2002 is shown below but don't know if it is still good.

Bathia Avaline PURVIS, born: 1863 in Jasper County, Mississippi, married: Abt 1887 in Jasper County, Mississippi, who married Charles A. MEADOR, born: abt. 1866.

There is more information on the family of Bathia Avaline PURVIS located at the following url address:

http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/m/o/r/Melody-A-Mo...

Bathia Avaline PURVIS was the daughter of Alfred Marion PURVIS and his 2nd wife, Huldah Jones, whom he married after his marriage to his 1st wife, Elizabeth Parker HAIR, (or it is possible that her name of Parker was a the surname Parker.)

My 2nd great grandfather, Jeremiah "Jerry" Parker, born: 1795 in Maryland, whom is found in Copiah County, Mississippi census by 1830, married 2nd or 3rd wife, Sarah "Sally" JENNINGS, born: 1821 in Covington County, Mississippi, my 2nd great grandmother, who was the daughter of Bailey JENNINGS and Kitty EARLE, born: abt. 1795 in Virginia possibly where her parents were born. Kitty EARLE was the daughter of Tabitha WILLIAMS, born: abt. 1766 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, Virginia, and Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS,) (2nd son of his name,) born: January 1760 at Town Run, Faquier County, Virginia, died: 1845 in Mobile, Alabama, who was the 2nd son of his father to be named Samuel EARLE, IV and his father was (Major) Samuel EARLE, III who was 1st married to Anna SORRELL and then after her death married my 5th great grandmother, Elizabeth HOL(D)BROOK.

Bathia's father, Alfred Marion PURVIS was the son of Elizabeth LOVETT and John PURVIS, Jr. of Edgefield, South Carolina who was the son of a man named (Colonel) John PURVIS, Sr. born 1746 in Scotland, and died May 11, 1792 in Edgefield County, SC. He married ELIZA ANN PRITCHARD February 1775, daughter of JAMES PRITCHARD and ELEANOR BULLOCH. She was born June 14, 1757 in Charleston, SC, and died Bef. 1813 in Edgefield, SC.

Edgefield was in Old 96th District, South Carolina where my PIERCE/PEARIS family group was prior to marrying into my MYRICK family group that later married into my PARKER-JENNINGS-EARLE family.

Thanks for replying, d colvin just happens to be me from an earlier account!. I opened that one when I was just starting my family tree & unfortunelty just assumed that the info that I was getting from others have been verified--know better now. So I have started over from scratch. But I have still come to a dead end regarding my great grandfather.

Since posting under that previous account I have gottten a copy of Bessie's second (and last)husband's death certificate (my great grandfather), as he died when my grandmother was about 3 years old, she didn't know anything about him other than his name. She told me Thomas LLoyd, but on the death certificated as much as I can make it out says Thos F., (do you know if this was a standard way to write Thomas or is it actually Thos ?) it has a father listed, but I have never seen the name before so I can't really make out. The first letter in his name, it looks like either a C or a L, the last 2 letters are oz, so it is either Coz or Loz ???? Also the death certificate was filled out by the funeral home, not a physician. Any suggestions would be welcome!!
Also on Bessis's two oldest children, Otsie is a female. I can remember going with my grandmother to visit her, she lived in Laurel.
Thank you for the other info, it will be very helpful in my research.
Michele Colvin
