I would like to be in contact with, and contacted by contributors to this book. I have many pictures of persons in the above families, and would like to share them. I have tintypes of some of the families, especially the Collins Family, Jacob Warren Collins and his wife Tolitha Eboline Valentine Collins, and their children. I will not be able to return any messages, however, for the next month, so I requested that you wait until after March 3 to contact me. Hello, I am Ed Payne and am the gr-gr-gr grandson of Sarah Collins Walters Parker. She was a daughter of Stacy Collins and sister of Jasper and Warren Jacob. I would be very much interested in learning more about the photographs you have. Also, Victoria Bynum, who wrote about the Collins family in "Free State of Jones" is currently working on a follow-up book to include information about Warren Jacob. Please contact me at your convenience.

Hi Mary, I am a historian of the nineteenth-century South with a new book coming out with the University of North Carolina Press. Several of my essays focus on the Collins family of Jones county, Mississippi and Hardin County, Texas. I am particularly interested in including photos of Warren Jacob Collins and his wife, Tolitha Eboline Valentine, but also of other Valentines and Collinses. I am therefore writing in hopes of gaining your permission to print photos from your collection. The tentative title of my forthcoming book is SOUTHERN COMMUNITIES AT WAR: ESSAYS ON CIVIL WAR DISSENT AND ITS LEGACIES. It is scheduled for release in spring 2010. Thank you!

Hello: Yes, I have heard of your books and have read excerpts from several. The photos I have of the Collins family are in my possession, and I have the originals of several other known Valentines and their descendants. I work closely with a few other researchers on the Valentine and allied names lineages. I am willing to share the photos I have originals of, but cannot give permission for some that I have shared that others have given me. Let me know which persons you are interested in, and I talk to the other researchers as well. Unfortunately, I have many old photos that are unidentified, and it is such a loss to not know who they are. MaryAllen M. comamur@sbcglobal.net

Hello Mary Allen, Thank you for your prompt response. The photos that I am interested in including in my book are "Seven sons of Allen and Cynthia Valentine," and the photo of Warren J. and Tolitha Eboline Valentine Collins, sitting with two of their children, which I did not find posted among your 161 photos. Is there somewhere else I should look to find that photo? I already have the photo of James Morgan Valentine in my possession, donated by his descendant, Dwayne Coats. I would like a photo of Warren and Eboline's son, Vinson Allen, as a young man if one is available. Thank you so much. I look forward to hearing from you. Vikki Bynum

Hello: I am not quite sure where the 161 photos are posted. I must admit I have posted them numerous places in trying to share. I have some up on Ancestry as well as on the Valentine Surname board, which can be accessed by the link below. There is a large tree up on Ancestry that I contribute to as well. I do know that the seven sons photo was passed onto me by someone else, but I will try to see if I can learn who that was and have them post here. There is a site called FamilyOldPhotos that has some TX photos on it, and that may be where I posted some other photos as well. The only photo I have of Vinson Allen Collins is of him at about 8-10 years of age, and it is one of the tintypes like the one of Eboline and Warren. The Collins photo you mention--I will attach at this message board in a later message if that will work. Here is the link for the Valentine surnamme board where the photos are up: http://boards.ancestry.com/AuthorPosts.aspx?uid=010f8f2b-000...= MaryAllen_M&uem=&rurl=http%3a%2f%2fboards.ancestry.com%2fsurnames.valentine%2f1098%2fmb.ashx Mary Allen Valentine Murphy

Sorry for multiple messages, but I have been unable to attach my jpeg photos after numerous tries. I have posted many photos in the past, but am unable to now, not sure why. The Collins photos are up on FamilyOldPhotos.com, or I can email them to you privately. Meanwhile, I will keep trying to figure out why this is not working. MaryAllen
