My father told me many years ago that my grandpa (my Moms dad) took them to Lucedale MS to get married 10 Dec 1944. My Mom passed away 1987 in Mobile AL while I was living in CA. Years later when some of my siblings and I were going thru some of her papers (my brother still in her house) we found many papers but to this day no one knows where the marriage certificate is. Is there a possibility that I could get a copy of this? Not sure what could have happened to the original but if her father had it Mom would have when he passed away ten years later...sure hope I can find it..
Thanks to anyone for anything..

Hi Lanie,
George Jansan was my great grandfather. Through slaegtogdata.dk I have found the following information which is likely to be the Jansans we are after, they lived near Esbjerg which is where my grandmother always said they were from. In the 1890 census we have father: Jens Christian Jensen of Hammelev, Haderslev age 37. Mother: Mette Marie of Jernvedlund, Ribe, age 34, children: Jes Christen age 7, Ellen Marie age 6 and Georg Frederik age 3. The names seem to fit, and the timing is similar. Maybe this is them!
George

I was there recently doing some research on land records and discovered the records only go back so far in the county. I'm trying to find old records for the Bexley area. How far back do the records go for this town and are they all in George county or are records prior to 1901 in Jackson County for this area?

Elizabeth (Lizzie) H. Jones, maiden name Gibson, was murdered in Gulfport, Mississippi on Feb. 25, 1935, wounded twice in the chest with a .32 cal firearm. The circumstances are unknown to me except the family story that her husband's girlfriend shot and killed her. Her husband's name was Albert H. Jones. If possible, I would like to obtain a copy of her obituary as well as a newspaper account of the incident. She is buried in Lucedale, Mississippi in Macedonia Cemetery, near her Gibson relatives. Any suggestions on where to search for such information is greatly appreciated. She was the great-grandmother of my children. Their grandma was only 7 years old when her mother was killed. Thank you so much, Cathey Cline

Well, it's 3 years later, but if you have not yet found William and Abigail Welford in the 1880 Census, I can understand. I finally found them in 1870 in Greene Co., MS, listed as Wm. and Abagal Wilford; in 1860 as William and Abbigil Willeford; in 1850 as Wm. & Abigail Welford; and in 1840 as Wm. Wilford. All the sources around here have him dying before 1880; the one I have listed is March 6, 1881, but I don't have a written source for that.

I do have, however, the obit for Abigail Dickerson Welford, and I'd be glad to send you a copy by e-mail if you're still interested.
Janet

I am sorry that was a TYPO ERROR. I used to copy all the obituaries from the George County Times for the George County Library before the identy law doesn't allow us to type living relatives any more. They can appear in the paper, but I can't transcribe them to the web site any more. The obituary was typed from the George County Times and I made a mistake on the Hwy. 613. I knew your grandmother she was a dear friend and next door neighbor to me. She was a good lady. I live next door to her daughter and have lived there for over 30 years.

Sorry again for the typing error.

I do know that Shirley Moss did live in Lucedale and probably still does. That would be his sister. Perhaps you could contact her. She is still listed in the phone book 601-947-1197 or 206 Cedar Ridge Lucedale, MS 39452.
If I can help you with any other research, I would be glad to try.

God Bless You,
Betty Marshall

My grandfather's name was Chester Cockrell. His father was C. Abraham or ABE, OR Abraham B. who was born in MS, with father from NC.

I keep coming back to this line for possible connection. I noted John had a son with Chester as the middle or first name. The name "Chester" is found so rare, it is leading me in the direction of a relative of some sort. John L's father was John C. Could this be "Chester."????

I have come to a brick wall in finding Abe's parents. He married Laura Ann Clark, and they are on the 1880 Winston, MS census. He is listed in TX, right before he died but NO LINK to prior to 1880. There is a "Sam" Cockrell on the same page - could be a brother.

Name: John L. COCKRELL
Sex: M
Birth: 24 JUL 1819 in Nash County, NC
Death: 6 MAY 1867 in Winston County, MS

Father: John C. I goofed.

Thomas Jefferson Havard is the brother ot Alley Elizabeth Havard and David Havard who are my ancestors.

I do apologize for the mistake.

Around 1978, under a garage apartment where we lived on Shell Belt Road in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, I found a store token dated July 1898. The store token was issued by the Green Co. Lumber Company located in Bexley, Mississippi and was good for one dollar in merchandise at the company's store (non-transferrable). I spoke with some of the decendants of the store owner years ago, but have forgotten who these people were. I wish I could contact them so that I cold get some infomration on the store and its owner since I'm sure Uncle Angus (my great-grandfather's brother) more than likely shopped there.
