Harry Albert Shubkagel, 85, Topeka, died June 1, 2004, at a Topeka hospital. He was born March 26, 1919, in Vermillion, the son of John A. and Lida Ewing Shubkagel. He graduated from Hoyt High School in 1938. Mr. Shubkagel served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in central Europe and the Aleutian Islands. He later worked for Vic Yarrington Oldsmobile as a mechanic for 38 years. He was a member of Elmont United Methodist Church. He married Thelma M. Ausherman on June 2, 1945, in Hattiesburg, Miss. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter, June Glasgow, Topeka; a son, Rex Shubkagel, Topeka; a brother, Ed Shubkagel, San Mateo, Calif.; a sister, Wilma Huff, Independence, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Heidi Glasgow, Topeka, and Isaac Glasgow, Lawrence. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. June 4 at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel in Topeka. Burial will be in Prairie Home Cemetery at Topeka. Mr. Shubkagel will lie in state after 3 p.m. June 3 at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O.
