I just saw this post this morning, so I'm coming in a bit late. My mother's surname was Carothers. Her father was George Carothers (Black, b. 1889 in Monroe County, MS). His father was Willis Carothers (b. 1860 in West Point/Clay County, MS). We're not sure if he was Black or Mulatoo, because we can't figure out who his father might have been. His mother's name was Lydia Lenoir (b. 1824, somewhere in Mississippi, possibly on the Lenoir Plantation).
