LEE (METHODIST) CEMETERY, Cotton Township, Switzerland County, Indiana

Comments: (Supplemental data in parentheseis) * - information from published
death notices. The cemetery, located on the West side of the East half of the
SE quarter of Sec. 3, T.3, R.3, and known as Lee’s Burial Ground, was deeded
to the Trustees of the Fairview Medhodist Episcopal Chrush by David and Jane
lee on April 20, 1865. It is approximately one mile southwest of St. Rt. 250.

I don't know if this helps, but James Brazeal from Claiborne County,Tennessee married Locky Jane McHaffie, daughter of Andrew McHaffie migrated to Christian County, Missouri in 1836.

I READ THAT THE CHOCTAW NATION ORIGINATED IN MISSISSIPPI. I KNOW THIS IS LOT TO ASK, BUT I AM GETTING SO FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THERE ARE NO RECORDS FOR PEOPLE BORN PRE-CIVIL WAR ON MOST CENSUS RECORD. Gibson/Gipson Connections in and around Homer, Clairborne County

I'm trying to verify the marriage of Sarah Francis Gipson/Gibson and John Thomas Smith. She was born in Homer in 1857, married in Claiborne County supoosedly in 1876 and died in 1877. Her father, John M Gipson/Gibson married Susan Minerva Kendrick in Homer. Apparently there used to be a Kendrick Cemetery in Homer but I can't find any sources that tell me it's still there. Some of the the Gibson/Gipson family are buried there with the Kendrick family members. Can anyone steer me in the right direction to getting some information on these names and places?

I am seeking the last name of Peter Hedrick's wife, Susanna. They most likely migrated to MS from NC or SC in the early 1800s. The last name may have been spelled Headrick. They were the parents of John A. Hedrick, who was the father of John Higgins Hedrick. Most likely, they were Presbyterians. If at all possible, I'd like to know where they were buried in Claiborne County. Any help would be appreciated.

I am seeking information on my gggggrandmother Martha James who married James Scott in Claiborne County, Ms. 24 December 1824. We had always been told she was Choctaw Indian, but have been unable to verify. Some Mormon sources give her parents as Joel James and Alsey Phinney or Finny, born circa 1775. Does anyone have any additional information on these families?

Hi. I do not know Robert Wilson GIBSON's father's name. Since Robert Wilson GIBSON was in Franklin Co., MS, & on the 1820 Franklin Co, MS, U.S. Census, I think that he died in Franklin Co., MS [not sure]. GIBSON's widow [Ann Caroline Baker GIBSON] married Dec 20, 1820, Claiborne Co., MS to Robert SANDERS.
Wouldn't it be something if you have located Robert Wilson GIBSON's dad!

Thanks a million. I did find that reference to Charles and his son Charles. Charles' wife Margaret also died in that--all three in about a six week period. Amazing to think of a yellow fever epidemic, but that preceded Walter Reed's work on the vaccine.

I'm also looking for the next generation. John A., a son of Charles, apparently took over the business and kept it until about the mid-20's before selling. I'm most interested in his daughter Ruth B. Note: Charles also had a daughter Ruth B. b 1861 who married Walter C. Guthrie--this is a Ruth B in the next generation, b 1892.

I have a John Flowers who was born in KY in 1843 father was WR Flowers I have the children living with the Gilland family in the 1850 and 1860 census. WR married a Joicey Dodson in 1863 and had my great grandmother Lue Ida Flowers-Scogin Then disappears or dies shortly after 1863. If you have any info The Flowers have been elusive for me. Thanks

William Walker was born 10 Jan 1800 [birthplace unknown] and married Mary Rundell 22 Mar 1821 in Claiborne County. They moved to Texas in the early 1830's and settled in what is now Fort Bend County. Wm Walker died in 1840 in FBC. There children are said to include:

Does anyone know of this family? Neighbors and possible residents of MS include Parmeneus Briscoe, Oliver H Rundall, James K Wade. Marriages between members of the Walker family and those mentioned. Would gladly share information with others working on this line. Other nearby property owners in FBC were from North Carolina and Virginia.

Margaret md. Duncan McGruder McDougall on ?. Duncan b.14 Mar 1880, d. 9 Apr 1944. (I'm a McDougall descendant - 2nd cousin twice removed from Duncan)

In case you're interested, Vashti (Brooks) Brock is buried in the beautiful cemetery at Grand Gulf Park. Part of her stone reads that she died March 6, 1851, in her 38th year. Buried beside her are two young children of V.W. and Vashti Brock. They are: George W. Brock (1836-1843) and Joseph Bowmar Brock (1838-1844). Hope you can use this information...

I am descended from Elijah Ragsdale who was a brother to Howell, I think. Elijah had a son Austin Douglas Ragsdale who was born about 1821 and died about 1905. That would be Saint Joseph Parish which served both Jefferson and Claiborne Counties. Ann Brown and Walter Selassi compiled the records in book form several years ago for the Claiborne-Jefferson Genealogical Society. It may be still in print because Ann Brown's books are popular. Try J&W Enterprises in North Louisiana.

I'm new at this, but "yes" I have traced my great,great gandfather Valentine Brock back to Chesterfield Co. SC. He was born there in about 1782. He moved to Mississippi, where he fathered my greatgrandmother Martha Valentine Brock and where she met my greatgrandfather,Andrew Jackson Brown. I just happened to note in the 1820 Census that an Edward and Joseph Burch were listed next to Valentine Brock. My greatgrandparents named one of their children Burch, which might just be a coincidence.

I know she died (But not when & Where) and that he married

The pharmacist and his son died in one of the yellow fever epidemics. I did an article for the Claiborne County site which includes this information. If you search the name Shreve at this site, you will find quite a bit of information on them.

Some of my family are buried in Herlong Cem., too. We are related to the Sorrells thru my Goza line - SAMUEL PERRY SORRELS, son of Green Sorrells, born 2 August 1833,Lawrence County MS ; died 26 January 1873; married LAURA E. GOZA (b. 1843; d. 1875), on 14 December 1859,Claiborne County, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Ann Caroline Gibson and Hiram Goza. All are buried in Sarepta Church Cemetery, Claiborne County. This cemetery is near Brandywine. I feel sure they are of your line. The Tanksley place was near McBride.
I would think that Mary and Polly are one and the same.

Hi ya. You might be interested to know that I have portraits of both Charles and Clara Warren Pearson. They were handed down to me, and I've had the one of Clara restored twice (second time, after hurricane Katrina) and the one of Charles restored once.
