All, I'm attempting to verify that surveyor, land owner (Milliken's Bend) and planter John Milliken was an actual descendant (grandson) of Charles Milliken from Connaught, Ireland. His daughter Mary Jane married Dr. James Porter Parker before 1838.
On page 13 of the 1860 US census of Port Gibson, there are two Milliken families listed as well. William & Louisa (1820-IN; 1830-NC) and Sam, M., Leona, Sam, Braxton & M. (1798-NC; 1802-NC; 1844-IN; 1838-IN; 1841-IN; 1844-NC). I'm also trying to determine if these Millikens are related as well. William was probably Sam's (the elder) son and they had a fair amount of property between them for being stable keepers. Probably raising and selling horses.
According to G.T. Ridlon, John Milliken was the oldest son of Robert (son of Charles) and he married the widow of Dr. Elliott (Mary Devereux). He had been granted land in Louisiana for his surveying work in Kentucky. Most of John's siblings moved to Kentucky with some of their descendants being born in Indiana.
Any assistance with this research would be greatly appreciated.
