Rev. Dr. George R. Pulliam, 73, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center.
He was born June 7, 1943, in Buena Vista, Mississippi, to Rev. Morgan and Maggie Pulliam.
He was an Ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and served in ministry for 38 years.
He earned a B.A. in Sociology from Lane College, Master of Divinity from Memphis Theological Seminary and an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Rust College.
He demonstrated a commitment to his country by serving in the United States Army. He received the following accolades for his service: Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Award, and Vietnam Service Medal with
two bronze service stars.

He served as Pastor of the following churches: Vincent Chapel, Grenada, MS; Moses Chapel, Ripley, MS; New Chapel UMC Plantersville, MS; Big Hill UMC, Tupelo, MS; St. Paul UMC, Tupelo, MS; Mt. Nebo UMC and Pleasant Grove UMC, Pontotoc, MS.
At the time of his death, he was the pastor of Usher Valley United Methodist, Algoma, MS.
He faithfully served in various leadership capacities and received numerous awards for his commitment and service to the community.
He was a former member of the
Board of Ordained Ministry of the MS Annual Conference, Board of Trustees for the Tupelo Public School District and Board of Trustees for the United Methodist Senior Services.
In addition, he was the C.E.O. and founder of Samaritan Garden Personal Care Home, LLC
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of forty-one years, Mary; Four children, Leslie Gooch-Newsom (Rodney) of Olive Branch, MS; Lisa Pulliam and Minister Denise Pulliam, both of Tupelo, MS; and Joyce Cubit (Travis) of Loganville, Georgia.
He also leaves one sister, Grace Dyes of Houston, MS and three grandchildren, Joseph Cooper, Elizabeth Satterwhite and Tyler Cubit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Morgan and Maggie Pulliam and two brothers, Morgan Pulliam Jr. and Lleuylon Pulliam.
Celebration of life services will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 1:00 p.m., at St. Paul United Methodist Church Christian Life Center, Tupelo, MS.
Interment will immediately follow at Big Hill UMC Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 21, 2017, at N.L. Jones Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and family hour will be 6:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. N.L. Jones Funeral Directors are in charge of the services.
