I do not have any information about the people involved in the previous queries.
But, you can see what newspapers are available on microfilm at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History in Jackson by going to the following website:

Scroll down the screen and then click on:
Newspaper Holdings by Town or County
Select the county and dates of interest.
My observation is that there were few newspapers from the civil war period on the microfilms.
The papers being digitized are from the really early period -- 1840's etc.
