FAMILY LEGEND HAS THE THOMAS JEFFERSON HEATH FAMILY RETURNING TO THE LIBERTY, MS AREA IN SEARCH OF EMPLOYMENT. SUPPOSEDLY THE FAMILY WAS UNABLE TO FIND FINANCIAL SUCCESS IN LOUISIANA AND RETURNED TO MISSISSIPPI TO BE NEAR FAMILY, MOST SPECIALLY FAMILY THAT COULD OFFER POSITIVE PROSPECTS WHAT WITH THOMAS JEFFERSON’S BROTHER-IN-LAW HENRY BATES BEING A CHANCERY CLERK.

THIS WOULD EXPLAIN WHY THE THOMAS JEFFERSON HEATH FAMILY WAS IN THE LIBERTY, AMITE COUNTY, MS AREA AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH.

FAMILY HISTORY

MARTHA J. MCKINNEY WAS BORN IN EITHER AMITE CO OR FRANKLIN CO, MS. MARTHA DIED IN 1880 AT THE AGE OF 33. SHE LEFT FIVE CHILDREN, AGES 8 TO 18. HER PARENTS DIED BETWEEN 1850 AND 1856, WHEN SHE WAS 5-10 YEARS OLD. THE MCKINNEYS MUST HAVE LIVED BRIEFLY IN ASCENSION PARISH BECAUSE T. S. MCKINNEY IS NAMED IN A LIST OF CLERKS OF NEW RIVER BAPTIST CHURCH. HENRY MARTIN AND THE FAIRBANKS FAMILY WERE ALSO MEMBERS OF NEW RIVER BAPTIST CHURCH.
