I am a Winston tracing my ancestry like so many others. I have hit a wall, and very early on in my search I might add. My great grandfather was named Charles W Winston. The W stands for either Wickliffe or Wynncliffe, we are not sure because there is very little on him. We know he was born around 1878 in Mississippi and died around 1931 in California. It was known that he grew up on a plantation or farm in Adams County, but other than that not much else is known.
The closest individual that I have been able to find in terms of ancestors after him is found in an 1880 Census under the name Chas Winston, with the same year of birth. Chas was listed as the grandson of Lewis Winston. I need help with this please. I can't find and have no clue who my great grandfather's parents were or if Lewis is his grandfather. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.
