You're welcome.
I was hoping that by you posting on Bohemia's board some regulars on that board might be able to give you a site to proceed with the search. All I know is for researching the church records one does need to have a precise location.
It is possible that a researcher in CZ might be aware of the DAS KOLONIZATION records.
I am a member of these organizations and have checked them out already. What I really need are the records of land grants from Austrian rulers who controlled the Das Kolonizations applications and grants. There must be a record of their names and where they came from prior to Galicia some where in Austria. Thanks for responding to my questions so quickly. Much appreciated.

My ancestors were granted land in the early 1800's in Galicia. (Deutsch-Lany and Kamionka Strumilowa areas). These were listed as Bohemen-Deutsch settlements. The Das Kolonization records do not show where they came from in Bohemia. THEIR NAMES WERE NICHOLAS STRECKER (Stroker) and his wife Catharina Schwarz and sons ANTONY AND SIMON and (ALBERT WHO WOULD ALSO BE A SON or brother to Nicholas.) Would anyone know where and how I could find their Bohemian records or land grant records would be deeply appreciated?

I just saw your post dated in 2002. Your Great Grandmother, Anna Kneifel Blaschke is my Great Grandfather, Louis Kneifel's sister. He lived and died in the Shiner/Moulton area. Her other brother Frank Kneifel lived in Shiner/Moulton and then moved with his family to Yorktown. My dad left a note about his relatives that referenced Anna (who lived in Bomarton!)and Frank immigrating shortly after Louis did. I have a few pictures of Louis and have seen the picture of Anna on her tombstone, but would love to see more pictures of her.

I am crossing my fingers that this note still finds you - I would love to hear from you. I am traveling to Europe in March with several family members to see the villages of origin for the Kneifels and Blaschkes and your post gave me an elusive piece of the puzzle - the village of origin for this family of Kneifel siblings - Frauenthal.

FYI - Louis' daughter, Katherine Biermeier married Ferdinand Blaschke. In my dad's note he states that Anna's husband Joe Blaschke was a different line of Blaschkes. I would love to know what you know about that!

Best Regards,
LaVerne Blaschke Dysart
210-490-5596
laverne.dysart@gmail.com

In case it's helpful to anyone's research, I've indexed some obscure entries found in local German papers for an Andreas Vogl who had a letter held at the post office from Geilsehöring (Jan. 1860). Also entries that match your Margarethe, d. 1885 (published as "Vogel"), but unlikely matches of death notices published for a "Mike Vogl" in 1926. There are over 300 combined Vogl & Vogel entries in the growing index.

"Milwaukee's German Newspapers; an index of death notices and related items" (1844-1950).
Gary Rebholz, compiler/editor
Milwaukee Wis.
gary.rebholz@gmail.com
Indexing Milwaukee's German newspapers continuously since 2007 ... it's about German-American culture, not data.

You're welcome Sunny.
I did not mean to suggest calling just to show you that surname STAUBER shows up in Czech Republic. I would recommend something like sending a letter to the surname holders in the ancestral location or vicinity of about 10 miles with a photo of an ancestor, if possible, or a small family tree and your e-mail address.

Going thru the church records should be helpful.
http://www.mapy.cz/#x=13.008119&y=49.341571&z=12&amp...

Here are sites that I have for CZ.
Thank you! I will copy the post onto those boards. I've found the maps, phone books etc. and there are SO many Staubers in that region of Czech Repulic and neighboring Bavaria that it would take me years to call everyone. Not to mention I don't speak Czech. LOL!

I figured I would first start with the names of the relatives that stayed behind, then try to find where they went after the expulsion. It's possible they came to the US as well, I just don't know who to look for. I haven't run into many other people researching these relatives, so I'm thinking that obtaining copies of the Schneiderhof (Mysliv) parish books from Vseruby district would be my best bet. Trying to orchestrate that from Alaska will be interesting though!

Sunny

STAUBER family from Bohemia: Schneiderhof (Mysliv), Neumark (Domalicze), Pilsen

I'm looking for any information available about the Stauber lineage in Schneiderhof. It was a very small village (only about 287 occupants) so I'm looking for any connections available. I've tracked down the parish registries, however they are not available online yet. Here's what I have so far:

1. Wolfgang STAUBER (1) + Theresia RIEDERER
2. Wolfgang STAUBER (2) b. 21 MARCH 1862 in Schneiderhof + Frances SEIDL b. 19 SEPT 1865 (daughter of Andrew & Dorada SEIDL). Wolfgang immigrated to Menominee, Michigan about 1876.
2. Charles STAUBER b. 3 DEC 1870 in Schneiderhof + Louisa Augusta BARTELS b. 1879 in Brandenburg, Germany. Charles immigrated to Wesboro, Wisconsin in 1888 and is my great-grandfather. He frequently went to Menominee, Michigan to visit Wolfgang.
2. Joseph STAUBER b. 1864 in Schneiderhof + Anna STODOLA b. 1867 in Bohemia (daughter of Anton STODOLA.) I don't know much about Joseph except he listed Theresia RIEDERER and Wolfgang STAUBER as his parents on his marriage certificate and they are also listed on his death certificate in 1893. Both marriage & death occurred in Menominee so I have no doubt he is a brother to Wolfgang & Charles.
2. Franz STAUBER?? - Likely remained in Schneiderhof
3. Franzisca STAUBER b. 1901 in Schneiderhof + Ed GILLIGAN b. 1896 in Ireland. Francis immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1922. I have a letter from her addressed to "Uncle Carl" and referencing "Uncle Wolfgang" however it's in very scribbly German so I can't read much of it. Hoping to get it translated soon.
2. Barbara STAUBER ?? - Rumored to have immigrated to Chicago, Illinois.

My grandfather (son of Charles) just turned 94 years old and said he was told his father had one brother who stayed in Bohemia. He doesn't know the brother's name. He's under the impression his father had a sister who settled in Chicago, Illinois and worked as a telephone operator. He thinks her name is Barbara, but I have yet to locate her.

Possible relatives:
* Theresia STAUBER b. 1848 immigrated in 1868 and listed Schneiderhof as her home town. She lists Michael STAUBER as her father & Anna STAUBER as her mother.
* Anton STAUBER b. 1869 in Philippsberg, Bohemia + Mary KOHLBECK b. 1867 (daughter of Frank KOHLBECK). Anton was the witness at Joseph Stauber's wedding to Anna STODOLA and is named on their record. He settled in Menominee, Michigan. He lists his parents as Michael + Anna Marie STAUBER. I'm guessing he may be a cousin to Wolfgang/Charles?
* Michael STAUBER and Anton RIEDERER are listed as living in Schneiderhof in a book about Industry & Work in the Bohemian Forest in the 1930's.

1_lorikrieg

The ancestors's arrival manifest does not provide you with a place of birth or last residence? Might be easier or helpful if you had a place of birth. The children, if born in US, their church baptismal record does not provide you wiht their mother's maiden name and a place of birth?

http://feefhs.org/maplibrary/austro-hungary/ah-bohem.html
http://feefhs.org/links/czech.html

Son Frederick was born when Nicholas was 13?! Are you certain?

The Winona Newspaper Project will probably be of help to you, although perhaps not for determining Katherina's maiden name. A quick search brought up the obituary for Nicholas in 1880.

http://digital.olivesoftware.com/Default/Skins/WinonaA/Clien...

It works best to do an advanced search: put in Krieg, "All Clippings", "Search in all Publications", and sort by date ascending.

The website usually loads very slowly, so be patient.

Good luck,

Beth
not related

Katherina ???

I am looking for my grandmother Katherina's maiden name and any other history such as parents.

Nicholas Krieg (1819 – 1880) married Katherina. They had four boys: Frederick (1832 – 1899), Eugene Joseph (1841 – 1899), Henry (1848 – 1905) and Frank (1849 – 1883). They migrated to the US on July 1844 on the ship Familian and may have first settled in Illinois, later they would reside in Winona Minnesota. Nicholas was a stonecutter & his spouse a homemaker. Katherina (records show Catherine) was born about 1812 in Bohemia and died 22 Oct 1899 in Winona, Minnesota.

Thank You

Hi
Marek is common Bohemian surname. In 1888 many people in Bohemia spoke both languages.
You need to know the birth place or place of last residence in Bohemia. The emigration in 1888 can be recorded in database of Ellis Island. You need also the maiden name of Emilia.

Hello I've been trying to do some research myself.
There was an Ullersdorf in Bohemia, close to the German city of Zittau, it was probably closer to Hradek nad Nisou in the czech republic.
I know that the Zimmermann and Tschiedel names are/where quite common around that area until the end of WWII.
My Grandfather's sister (Motz) married a Emil Tschiedel and they had a son. All three were killed/died during WWII.

saw94@bigpond.net.au
