Thanks. That's interesting because I did a little searching using St. Scholastica in Duluth as a possible location for Sister Ehrentrude.

The original query says Sister Ehrentrude "left the convent" meaning, I think, that she left the Order of St. Benedict. In that case one needs to seek her in another order - or as a lay person. I did search for a marriage for her but did not find. Did you find her?

May I ask, how do we know she left the order - what is the source?

O.S.B. means "Order of Saint Benedict"

And related to the St. Cloud, MN & then on to St. Joseph, MN was a "fourth prioress", Mother Scholastica Kent who "took on ministries in Duluth [MN] beginning in 1881."
They are know as the Benedictine Sisters (still in existence) and founded the College of St. Scholastica (also still in existence.)

http://duluthbenedictines.org/our-community-welcome/our-hist...

I do not know if all of this is related to what you are searching for but I thought I would add in the more "local" (as in within MN) link.

Hi, I searched the Minnesota State Census at Minnesota Historical Society and did not see her. Try this at www.mnhs.org , or perhaps you have already.

Long Prairie is in Todd County, Minnesota.

St. Scholastica's was located in Shannon Twp., Atchison County, Kansas. Sister Ehrentrude Wolters was sent to Kansas from the convent in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Source: Mount St. Scholastica History & 1900 Residence, posted on RootsWeb.

Saint Benedict's in Saint Joseph, Minnesota may be able to help, LINK:
http://sbm.osb.org/our_community/obituaries/

I wonder if her history is tied to the history of Mother Willibalda Scherbauer (1857-1868)? I believe she was Mother Superior at the St. Cloud convent where Sister Ehrentrude Wolters lived before going to St. Scholastica's in Kansas.
LINK:
http://sbm.osb.org/our_community/our_prioressess/

So, you say you have more information about her to share? Probably info about her parents and siblings would be relevant to her whereabouts after St. Scholastica's, if indeed she left the order.

In Sadlier's Catholic Almanac her name is given as Sister Ehrentrude Walter [sic], O.S.B., Directress of the Academy, St. Scholastica's Convent and Academy.

It further says St. Scholastica's was administered by the Sisters of the Order of St. Benedict, so presumably she was a member of that order. Is that what O.S.B. means? Are you saying she left the order (not just the convent)?

The Memoirs of Sister Hildegarde O’Keefe state that Sister Ehrentrude Wolters and other sisters "were German and could speak little of any other language."

I'm posting these bits which you surely have in order to begin to fill in more about her here in this forum, to help volunteer researchers.

Dear Friends,
I am looking for more information on Marianne Wolters.
She was one of the pioneer sisters who founded Mount St. Scholastica Academy in 1863. She was given the name Sr. Ehrentrude. She was Directress of the Mount Academy from 1863-1866 when she left the convent. Tradition has it that she went to Long Prairie, MN and was a teacher there.

I am not sure if she joined another group of sisters or was a lay person.

I would be very happy to share the information I have about her with anyone that has an interest.

I would so appreciate any help about this.

Kathy Wieland

William B Smith obtained a homestead in Cass County early 1892 and from there they moved to Staples, Todd County. William died in 1902. He actually died at his son's home in Little Falls and was taken back to Staples and is buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery. His sons were Adolphus, Casar, Irus, Edgar, and Valmer.
I'm trying to find the death of Charles Albert Sanders. He was born May 20, 1871 in Goodhue, Goodhue, Minnesota. His father, my 2nd great grandfather, Charles Noble Sanders died November 5, 1912 in Burtrum, Todd, Minnesota. In Charles Noble's obituary it lists he is survived by 2 sons and Charles Albert is not one of them so I believe he died before his dad.

In 1900 the family was living in Grey Eagle, Todd, Minnesota and Charles Albert was listed with them. In 1905 the family was in Burtrum, Todd, Minnesota and there was no Charles Albert. I think he died between 1900 and 1905 in Todd County.

I have checked the death index of Minnesota but it does not cover this time period. If someone could check to see if there is a death date for Charles Albert Sanders I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you,
Delayne

Hi,
I sent you a separate message regarding these pictures. I am sorry to say that I mailed the originals to a Trones ancestor who asked for them some time ago. I can't remember his name, (think first name started with A.) but he never even responded to let me know he had received them in the mail. Otherwise I would have sent them to you, but too late now. You might ask around to some of your relatives, as I believe one of them now has the originals. I really hope he appreciates them. I will send you the scans when I get your email address. No Bryngelsons, Warners or Jacobsons in the bunch. Judy

I had requested info from someone who had the ability to look up people from this county.I am trying to find this group again. I am interested in information about Levi Marion Davis in the early 1900's in Long Prarie,MN. where he was sheriff,a lawyer, legislator, hunter, father, etc. Also, the Petrie ( with various spellings)family(Joseph and Mary with children including Elva Leora Petrie.

Karen, I have been researching the Davis families, especially Levi Marion Davis and his family who lived there in Long Prairie in the early 1900's.His daughter,Enid is the person who started the Todd Co.Museum and perhaps the Historical Society. Her father was a lawyer, sheriff, legislator for Mn.,a hunter, etc.I think some of his siblings also lived in Todd. One might have owned a store in Hartford. The other side of the family were Petrie's(sometimes with other spelling)Joseph and Mary with daughter,Elva.
Is this book still in print? Thanks,Dford

I am Jesse and Martha's ggrandson via their daughter Mildred Clarinda (twin sister Melba Lucinda). I have documentation that provides a Butterfield/Adams link from Hinchinbrooke Quebec CA to Floyd county Iowa. The Floyd county Iowa area was where Jesse and Jesse's Father Abraham lived (Greene IA). It appears that Martha's father was William Adams who was married to Sarah Butterfield. All of the Adams names and that of Sarah Butterfield in Iowa match the earlier names from Canada. If you are working on your tree, between my cousin and I, we have quite a bit of info on the Schroeder family. I am VERY interested in any pics you can find of Grace..unknown family members that we may already have ID'd and Grace's children. We have a few Schroeder pics...one of Grace's Uncle in front of a hotel he owned in Perham. We stopped in Staples to get some info once, but I think everyone was a little uncomfortable with us.
This is an old thread but I was wondering what verification you found that David Perry is the son of John and not Richard H. Holdridge. David was married to Lydia Baxter, daughter of Aaron Baxter Sr. also a Revolutionary War Patriot. This can be verified by the Barbour Collection. There are several DAR memberships based on John Holdridge being the father of David Perry Holdridge but I cannot find anything that verifies this. I can be reached at jhmueller04@hotmail.com.

Neil Pollard has been the cemetery caretaker there for the years I've been dealing with this cemetery. His address is: PO Box 341, Clarissa, MN. To my knowledge he does not have an email address.

There is another cemetery in Eagle Bend on the East side of town but I don't know/can't remember the name of it. I've not had any dealings with this one so I don't have any contact information. But if you get in touch with Neil I'm sure he would have a contact since it's all a small area.
Diane

Hi, Jack.
I'm sorry to say that the photos I had of these people, as well as all the notes I made while searching for connections, were turned over to a person who promised to take over the search for descendents. I just found out that they donated the pictures to a historical society in another county instead of following through with the Todd County search. So, I have nothing on the photographer. You might try googling the phrase " O. S. Olson" and the word photographer. Sorry. I'm very disappointed. All I have left is my scans of the photos. I do suspect that the photos were from 1890-1920s era. Judy

Hello! I have some old family photos that were taken by O.S. Olsen in Sauk Centre, and I'm wondering if you know when he was in business - it would sure help me in my quest to identify which family members are in the photos I have!!
Thank you!
Jack

Re: KILGAS

Hi Cydney,

I'm researching Kilgas too as well as any similar or even remotely similar surname. My mother was born KIHLGAST, and many a time her dad - my GF - spelled his surname KIELGAST.. and sometimes also KILGAST. But ther's no doubt the correct one is KIHLGAST.
That's why I include KILGAS in my searches even it's not proven related to Kihlgast. And because I found a KILIGAS in MA (or rather she found me), whos original surname was KIELGAST originating from a close ancestor coming from Germany near Cuxhafen. So I leave no stone unturned when it comes to different spellings of my mother's maiden name... as some or perhaps many might be derived from eachother or otherwise related further back in time.

Sorry, I don't have your William Kilgas nor his wife in my tree but I have other Kilgas's, so I wonder... do you have any information on other Kilgas's whether it may be this spelling or any other spelling of the surname?

If yo do I would be delighted to know.
I have info on several other Kielgast-lines, that I am willing to share, if they fit a person within your query.

I know it's been 12 years, but I trust you're still about and doing well.. right? :-)

BR,
Bo
