Just getting started on this Robinson crew. Somehow we're related (Y-DNA), and I'm fixin' to find out how! Friday, I will storm the gates of the Steuben County Clerks Office, and then post my findings here, and on my website at...

https://sites.google.com/site/robinson1857/home/george-robin...

There were Greenwoods in Cattaragus County, NY. Isaac Brooks Greenwood (b. 1822) was there, moved to McKean Co, PA (nearby the Robinsons) and then out to Steele Co., MN (near the Robinsons again). Coincidence? I think not!

I am a cousin of Henry Karsten and George Karsten. I can give you dates for these families and respective wives Hattie Panzer and Augusta Panzer, daughters of William. I may even have a Brownie camera picture of one of these Panzers.
I don't know much more about the Panzer family, just what I've read in short entries on the social pages of the Owatonna paper. The Panzers were quite a distinguished family among Minnesota pioneers, it appears.
Would you have any pictures of the early Karstens? We are
trying to update and supplement a 100-page Karsten family tree prepared by my aunt in the 1970s. Thank you for any contact.
Stella

Birth: Sep. 10, 1909, Denmark Death: Mar. 24, 1994
Sunnyvale, Santa Clara County, California, USA

Our adopted grandmother, born Emma Mortensen in Denmark and had sister, Edith Mortensen, who lived in Washington D.C., USA. A world traveler, Emma died at age 85 with Neil Kelly sitting at her side holding her hand. She was very close to Winnie (aka Beverly) & Neil Kelly, my brother Paul Blote, and to myself. She didn't have children from her brief marriage in Italy but we found she adopted us as family really, and we were glad of it.

A long-term resident of the Sunnyvale Baha'i Community, she had worked at the World Center in Haifa, Israel and served on the first Denmark Assembly of Baha'is. Married briefly to Finn Martensen and remained single to the end of her days. Our dear Emma is buried very near Paul, my brother.

Known for a quick wit, dry humour and keen eye for attention to details, she loved serving the Faith. We love her and look forward to our celestial reunion, one day. Neil Kelly has recently passed to whom she leaned on in her last days, I'll bet she was there waiting to greet him. ;-D

Thank you, Dear Emma, for your eternal love and friendship which is returned happily, in kind.

EMMA MARTENSEN Beloved Baha'i Friend SEPT. 10, 1909 - MAR. 24, 1994 "I have made death a messenger of joy..." - Baha'i Writings

Created by: Blote
Record added: Jul 09, 2008
Find A Grave Memorial# 28140822

Learned More about Emma's family since then, some posted to Ancestry's site.
I have 2 post cards of Blooming Prairie, Minn. Catholic Churches. They are both the same cards but at different angles, dated 1914 and 1915. I am only aware of St. Columbanus Catholic Church at that time in the Blooming Prairie area. These photos show a wooden church, tall steeple, no front windows on either side of the steps. Could this be from a nearby town? Or was there perhaps another Catholic Church I am unaware of? I have compared it to the Newry Church and doesn't seem to match. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm searching for any information on Clara Nelson, daughter of Ole and Anna (Severson) Nelson (Skavang). She was born Nov 22 1902 in Wisconsin. They moved to the Owatonna area in the early 1900's. According to family stories, she just disappeared one day in the 1940's. Did this make headline news in the paper? Was there ever a search made for her?

www.dalbydata.com shows a couple of Christy/Christie burials in a Riverside cemetery but not a James. You may want to contact John Dalby via that site - his transcriptions are usually done from gravestones I think, not burial records, but he may know where there are cemetery records. It is possible there are burials in the plots you note, but no stones. Ron Houghtelin's map from courthouse records would give a photographer a place to look to see if there is anything at the site.

Greetings from Canada

Does anyone know if the Riverside Cemetery in Medford has been transcribed and is available on-line? I am looking for death/burial information for James CHRISTY, originally from New Brunswick, Canada and his descendants. His sons David and Jesse are listed as original plat owners on a webpage I found but there is no other mention of them other than their names.

Just read this about Rusk County, WI.
Formerly Gates County, changed 1905. Created in 1901 from Chippewa County

So there is a chance that Chippewa County has the birth record. From the counties that later split, they try their best to separate vital records. Gates county no longer exists so if no luck at the Rusk courthouse then try Chippewa courthome. Make sure you get the Wisconsin Chippewa. Michigan and Minnesota also have a Chippewa County.

Island Lake is in Rusk County, Wisconsin (not Rush county)
You should post a query for that county.
http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.wis...
And you need to mention possible Searle near the beginning of your query instead of the last line. If someone knows the Searle name they would have lost complete interested after a couple of lines. And I would use Jackson/Shirley/Scott adoption rather than Scott. Unless you don't want to find the birthmothers family. You should probably include Searle with the others. If I was a Searle or Shirley family historian, I would not even read more than the subject line.

The courthouse in Rusk County Wisconsin should not have too many Blanche born in May 1901 on their birth indexes. Searle and Shirley covers the S index so it should be a simple search. It will cost money to get a copy of Blanche's birth cert. If you mention that it is an adoption case the clerk will most likely lock her brakes and not assist you. Just tell the clerk that Blanche is the mother of your grandmother and you think it sounds like Shirley or Searle. Both last names are in the general Rusk County area. So the courthouse clerk will take the May 1901 birthdate, find the birth index that covers it, open it up to the S pages and scan for first name Blanche or baby girl and see if any Blanches have a surname that sounds like Shirley or Searle.

William Jackson is going to be tougher because both first and last names are popular.

My grandmother received her adoption records in 1942, but with her living in Illinois and raising kids, etc, it was hard for her to search, so for the past 20 years, I have doing the search for her.
This is what the adoption records have to say:

Henryetta Blanch Jackson (Baby Girl is scratched out and Henryetta Blanch is written in)
born: June 23, 1921
Reg district number 2517
no in Reg book: 38
father: Wm Henry Jackson
Mother: Blanche G Shirley
Residence: Hopkins RFD
Race: White
Father born: 1893 (written, typed is age 28)
Mother born:May 1901 (written, typed is age 20) Wi
Occupation: Common Laborer, Housewife
Dr: Hugh C Avery
Dated June 23, 1921
Address Excelsior
Registrar: WS Frear
Dated: June 24, 1921
Address: Hopkins

Her adoption records are like this:
Owatonna State Public School
number 7418
Name: Henrietta Jackson
Date Admitted: Jan 24, 1925
Residence Minneapolis, Mn
County: Hennepin
Date of birth: June 23, 1925
By Order of Court: Juvenile-hennepin Co
BirthPlace: Glen Lake Mn
Judge: PW Guilford
Sex Female
Colour: White
Petitioners: AL Bean
Address: Minneapolils, Mn
Cause of dependency: father deserted
Contributory Causes: Mother unable to support child
Church: Protestant
Physical condition on admittence: Good
Family character habits, physical and mental conditions: Father-brutal to mother-drinking man
Conjugal relations: Married Sept 18, 1920 at Hopkins Mn, by Lutheran minister, seperated
Father: William Henry Jackson
Born 47 years old, Chaugne Ny
Address: Unknown
Mother: Blanche Shirley Jackson
Born: May 1901 Island Lake Russ Co Wi
Mother works occupation unknown
Brothers: one Brother; Robert number 7419
Descriptive Notes: This child together with younger brother Robert number 7419 was brought to the school by Mrs Esther K Lee, C.P.S, Minneapolis. The father was very brutal to the mother- pounded her and drove her out of the house and then deserted-indictment out for him for desertion. He is Irish Catholic. The mother was a State School girl from Wi, having been sent there when she was 13 years old by her maternal grandmother. She has been working at different places, has improved a great deal iin her health since leaving the father, but does not feel able to support the two children. She is Methodist. Lived at Glen Lake for a number of years. Children both have been vaccinated recently. Placed- Feb 3, 1925. Mar2 1925-Mother inquires about children informed. Adress 1531 22nd Ave No Mpls. April 13 1925 Mother inquires, informed. Adress 1471 W Como Ave., St Paul.

She and her brother were adopted Aug 13, 1926 by the Scotts.

I am unable to find any type of info on a place called Chaugne Ny, but there is Chemung County Ny, could it be a misprint or misunderstanding, the same with Russ CountyWis, could that be Rusk Co?? Her birth certificate says that her father was 28 years of age, then the Owatonna State School records say 47, I am sure the birth cert is correct. After all think about it, way back when, even the people filling out those papers would most likely put *wrong* information down, so the children couldnt find their birth parents, before the 1970's it was the concept of children who were adopted to have no need to find their birth parents.

I found Blanch in a 1920 Census of the State School in Wi, she is stated to be 20 years of age, and that she is a servant at the school.

I am unable to travel to Mn and Wi, but would love any info a person could find or figure out.

I have also found out that Blanche's maiden name may have been Searle instead. Still following this lead!

Minnesota death index has two listings for those first names and both died in Steele county, Minnesota. I have a feeling they are a match.
1923-MN-015389, ELIZA, , BOWE, , , 23 Oct 1923, , STEELE, ,
1922-MN-014285, MICHEL, , BOWE, , , 18 Jun 1922, , STEELE, ,

They are buried in Havana Cemetery, Havana township, Steele County, Minnesota. They are not on their listing.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=82...;

But they are listed here.
http://www.dalbydata.com
BOWE ELIZA 26/SEP/1843 23/OCT/1923 146 HA 17 HAVANA - HAV HAV W 3 89 SP. MICHAEL. NEE: DUNN. BORN MIDDLESEX, VT. OWA. 27/OCT/1923

BOWE MICHAEL 26/OCT/1833 18/JUN/1922 146 HA 17 HAVANA - HAV HAV W 3 89 SP. ELIZA DUNN. MAR. 05/SEP/1862. BORN ST LAWRENCE CO., N. Y. OWA. 20/JUN/1922.

Hopefully they have headstones. Some models of footstones in the early 1920s are very difficult to photograph. Someone already has three photo requests for Havana Cemetery. You should submit your requests. Odds are the snow will not be gone until May this year. There is plenty of shade trees so it might take longer.

Their family shows up on Minnesota Census index. Just enter bowe and select Steele county.

I am not sure of a family relationship. My father told me long ago that they worked the Heiker farm, leased the land , since my grandfather hated farming. One of my other cousins says we are related? So I placed your family tree for now with ours, until the mystery is solved. judy heiker dommergue

Hi Maureen, I am related to the Heiker Family via my mothers side. There is a plat map you can look at on the Steele County Historical Society website that has the names of all the landowners for a period of time. My Grandfather John Heiker and Great Grandfather Edward Heiker are shown. I have not looked to see if there s a Grant on the map.
