I am the great grandaughter of Nicholas Bach, born 1820 in Langenfeld, Prussia. According to information from Nick's youngest son Henry, born New Munich,Minn 18 Aug 1876, Langenfeld is 3 miles form Malmedy near Aachen. His parents are buried there; his father was also Nicholas Bach.
Nick Bach came to the US in 1853 with his wife, whose name I do not know, and his son Michael. One of Nick's brothers, Bernard, joined him at Racine, WI. Another son, Peter was born there about 1854. Three more children were born in the New Munich Minn area: Barney, Maggie and Matias. In 1871 his first wife died, leaving him with 5 children. About 1873 he married a young widow named Elizabeth Chimperly Gnaden who had three daughters-Louise, Mary and Minnie.
Of the union of Nicholas and Elizabeth there were 3 more children: Henry Bach b.18 Aug 1876 @ New Munich, Elizabeth,(Lizzie)b.1 Oct 1878 @ New Munich, Katherine Mary b.27 Sept 1880 @ Grand Forks, ND. Katherine married Cornelius Wurschmidt and is my paternal grandmother.
