My name is Ruth Wattenhofer and I am looking for information on Henry Buesgens (born August 20, 1820 and died February 28, 1888). My husband is a descendent of Henry Buesgens. His grandmother on his mother's side was Ida Buesgens married to John Nicholas Beckrich. She was the daughter of William Buesgens(1851-1923) and Gertrude Van Schueren and granddaughter of Henry Buesgens (1820-1888) and Elizabeth Schlim.

I would be interested in hearing from anyone with any information on the ancestry or descendancy of the above mentioned Buesgens.

Regards,
Ruth Wattenhofer
ruth.wattenhofer@gmail.com

Sauser descendants of Peter & Susan of Credit River twp.

I am researching the SAUSER family and have relatives in Scott County. My SAUSER line goes back to Theodori SAUSER in Alzingen, Luxembourg. Some of the descendants went to Minnesota and married into the SAUBER family. Others settled in Dubuque Co., Iowa. Please contact me if you are interested in comparing information.

I am especially interested in learning about the family of Peter & Susan SAUSER. They were listed in Credit River twp. in the 1885 state census. Peter was 66 and Susan was 49. Their children were: Maggie (20), Kate (17), Josephine (12), John (10), and Matilda (8). All were born in Minnsesota. There were also on the same sheet, a Joseph SAUSER (26), Mathias Sauser (24), and Mary Sauser (22). Do you know anything of these Sausers? I do not have any corresponding birth information for Peter.

Dose anyone know of any descendants of this family still in the Scott Co. area?

I am searching for information concerning Michael J. Schaufler, born about 1886, died 25 Apr 1942, Hennepin County, Minnesota. I believe it probable that he was the husband of Ida May Brown, born 12 Dec 1881, Moultrie County, Illinois, died sometime after 1945. The couple are recorded in the Federal 1920 and 1930 Censuses in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota. It is possible that they met and married in Nebraska before settling in Minnesota. They do not appear to have had any children. Ida May was my grandfather’s sister. Any information, leads, and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I may be contacted directly at rsbrownco@aol.com.

Bob Brown
I am looking for any information on Maria Anna Angelina Feusi, aka Lina. She was the daughter of Martin Feusi and Ida Fassler and I believe she was born in Feusiberg Switzerland. In 02 Nov 1889 she married Josef Alois Wattenhofer (b.1860 in Lachen Switzerland - d.1929 in Lachen Switzerland) They were married in Feusiberg Switzerland. They had one child, Josef Alois Wattenhofer, (b.1891 in Lachen Switzerland and d. 1896 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, USA). Josef Alois Wattenhofer immigrated to the United States in 1891 or 1892 and settled in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, USA where Maria Anna Angelina had a brother living. In 1893 Maria Anna Angelina and their son Josef Alois joined their husband/father. Four more children were born to their union in Sauk Centre before they moved farther west to Two Inlets/Ponsford, Minnesota area.
Any information on Maria, her parents and siblings and her husband would be very appreciated.

Kennedy or Glynn (Glenn) Families

I'm looking for information on the Thomas F. Kennedy family. I believe Thomas married Mary Woods around 1850 in the old log Cathedral in St. Paul. They had a son, John Daniel (b. 1853) in St. Paul and moved to Shakopee around 1854. Several other children were born there but am unsure of their names. John married Bridget A. Glynn (Glenn), daughter of Nicholas and Mary Purcell Glynn (Glenn), in Shakopee in 1882. I believe both the Kennedy's and the Glynn's lived on farms in Eagle Creek, Scott County, MN.

I'd love to hear from anyone with a possible link to these families. Thanks in advance!
I am trying to locate descendants of the ARKUSH and MANLEY families who might be able to help me. In the Norwich NY library, I found an older photocopy of a fading family bible record. One line follows:

Albert V. MANLEY b. 1831 in NY who married Nancy Adelia SMITH b. 1829 NY. They lived in St. Lawrence and Belle Plain. Their children were:

Effie A. MANLEY who married CH HOOPER.

Mabel A. MANLEY who married Charles A. SWANSON.

Merrill Manley, and

Herbert Hovey MANLEY b. 1857 in MN, who ended up in Chicago then San Gabriel.
His daughter Dorette MANLEY b. 1889 married Ellis John ARKUSH. They lived in Redwood City, Hillsborough, and Burlingame.

They had Ellis John ARKUSH Jr. b.1914 and Carol Doris ARKUSH b.1915.

Ellis John ARKUSH Jr. married Laura Pearson and had daughter Sharon.

Carol Doris ARKUSH married Robert ETIENNE and had children Robert Jr, Dorelle, and John Roger.

The reason I'm trying to track this line is that the bible record was contributed by a Helen Nicol Tanois(?) of Burbank. I have written to the address given and have not received either an answer or returned letter. The name and address are handwritten and a little hard to decipher. There are parts of this bible record that are just unreadable, and I would love to track down whoever might own the bible to see if the bible record could be re-scanned with today's modern tech. I also would be interested in exchanging information with descendants of Albert and Nancy Adelia.

Is anyone aware of any particular reason for migration of people from St. Louis, Missouri to Scott County, Minnesota in the early 1850's. My great great grandparents did this and I don't know if there were any others. He served in the 8th Minnesota and after the Civil War they returned to St. Louis. I am curious why they moved to Minnesota. Ironically, I have a brother that lives in Minnesota now and the rest of us live in the St. Louis area in Missouri.

I'm researching the Henry Liefer Sr. and Louisa Dierks family. The family immigrated from the Hanover area of Germany around 1867, settling in the Sand Creek area of Jordan, MN. Their children (along with spouses) were Lenora (Leopold Kuehn), Henry Jr. (Anna Behmler), Mary (Charles Simon), and Mathilda (Carl Zarth).
Henry Jr. married Anna Behmler 1893 and had the following children William (Ludmilla Feldten), Walter (never married), and Rosalia (George Jaeger). I'm willing to share what information I have on these families and hopefully someone can help me fill in the holes in this family tree.

I have transcribed from microfilm two early membership lists, baptism, marriage, and death records from 1859 to 1920 for Christiania Lutheran Church, 26691 Pillsbury Avenue, Lakeville MN 55044. The microfilm did not have records for baptisms from 1905 to 1913, marriages from Aug 8, 1908 to May 20, 1913, or deaths from November 1911 to August of 1913. This congregation included people who lived in Dakota, Scott and Rice Counties.

If you have information that can help fill these gaps, and are willing to share, please send it to the church office (mark the envelope "for heritage committee") or to me at hcharper@clear.lakes.com

Thank you.

These families lived in Belle Plaine area circa 1860-1870 and Finches later than that. A Finch daughter, Mary Ann married a Morris Eells there, I believe.
Could anyone verify that Sylvester and Hulda Finch and/or children of theirs might be listed in a local cemetery or death record? Sylvester was 75 yrs old in Le Seur County Census living with a daughter, Lucy (something like Anninelly) can't read census record. Huldah Finch is still living and with daughter and son-in-law, (O. F. A--------?)
This couple was still in Belle Plaine in the 1870 census.
Can anyone shed some light??
My mother who needs this info is:

Marilyn Johnston
918 Broadway
Concordia, Kansas 66901
785-243-1018

dean.johnston@sbcglobal.net
They lived in Chaska and had 10 children, most attended Guardian Angels School in Chaska. John Henry, Lena and her parents
are buried in Guardian Angels cemetery.
I would like to find a marriage certificate for John Henry and Lena especially if it lists their parents and birthplaces. Their first born was Kathryn (date unknown)and son Jacob was in 1884 so I assume
their marriage was prior to that. My grandfather, Thomas Leonard was born in 1891 in Chaska.

Any information would be appreciated.

Partly due to help from friends and relatives in Scott Co., the Luxembourg history of the Schaak families of St. Joe is now finished. But now comes the book about the Schaak after their arrival in Minnesota. We really need as many photos as possible; photocopies through the mail are fine; scanned photos are fine; if anyone would like to bring a copy to our home in Minneapolis, we can photocopy them on the spot with our own copier. The children of Jacob Schaak, Hubert Schaak, and Marie Eva ( Schaak ) Rausch married into many families in Scott County, and their descendants might have photos, or letters, or other relics which will be very welcome to the coming history.

1910 Scott Co. federal census: need help!

I need help deciphering a name listed in the 1910 Scott Co,
Minnesota, federal census. On sheet 29A (Jordan) is listed a
woman by the first name of Antonie, aged 47, born in Bohemia. I cannot make out her surname! The 1900 federal census for Jordan is *equally* unclear. The name looks like it could be "Premlisch" or "Priminal"; I simply cannot tell. Would someone with access to that roll of census film be willing to take a look at that page and tell me what they think the name is? And, if possible, if it's a familiar Jordan or wider Scott County surname? I suspect that the woman in question may be a younger sister of Josef Podvolecky (1855-1923) of Raboun, Bohemia, and Jordan. Thank you!

Grant S. White
grantsw@spst.edu
John and Eva Boentgen, born 1800 in Prussia

I have a John and Eva Boentgen (various spellings) in Scott County, Minnesota in 1860 (Benzen) and 1870 (Berndgen). Two of their daughters - Margaret (b. ~1834, d. ~ 1871) and Anna/Ann (b. ~1844, d. ~1887), married Christian and Henry Busch respectively. They both resided and died in Scott County, MN.

I last see John and Eva on the 1870 census, when they are both 70, with son Peter (age 31) still at home with what appears to be his wife Mary (age 25) and daughter Adelaide (age 2).

Henry Busch's obit has Anna's maiden name as Boentgen.

The death certificate for one of Christian Busch's and Margaret's sons (Peter), has Margaret's maiden name as Berntgen.

I'm having difficulty searching further for this family.

* I would like to know where in Prussia they came from, and when they immigrated, and/or any information on John/Eva's other children.

* Obits/death certificates for Margaret, Anna, and their parents John and Eva - I'm assuming they died 1870-1880.

In the 1860 Sand Creek, Scott County, Minnesota census John and Eva's family is listed as follows:

John Benzen 60
Eva 60
Gerrard 23
Peter 21
Mary 18
Ann 16
Adelaide 12

Margaret had already married Christian Busch in ~1857.

I look forward to any information or leads.

Georgia
Paul JAHN and wife Eva Regina HAUCK came to that area in 1856 and had property in both counties. Several of their children have Scott County as their birthplace and they were in the 1860 census with children in LeSueur County.
The SCHULTZ family would be descended from Peter VETTER and Catherine SPILGER VETTER, originating in Rock Island County, IL and coming to these MN counties about 1890.

Hello,
I am searching for information on the Martin Spatgen (1831-1918) family. Their original name was spelled Speetgens and they immigrated from the Netherlands to Minnesota in 1862. First the family settled in Carver County, later I found info in Scott County too.
Who can help me further with this family?
Many thanks in advance, greetings from the Netherlands,
Irma

In the 1870 Scott County Belle Plaine census I have a listing for:

Carlos Greenbush
John McCormick

Both of these are in the agriculturre schedule after the town data. I also have :

Edward Greenbush died of pericarditis in the same census in the mortality schedule. Carlos later moves to Jessenland and I believe this John settles with Casrlos' daughter Adalaide in Faribault. Are these names familiar to anyone?

Thanks.

Hon. Martin Quinn of Hamilton? (died Mar. 14, 1898)

A recently received obit for a great great uncle (we currently assume) lists and refers to him as Honorable Martin Quinn. Would anyone happen to know why he would be referred to as Hon. Martin Quinn?

We know the following about the man: Martin was born in 1833 in Ireland. He was married and apparently had children. He had a brother named DENNIS QUINN, who never married.

DENNIS and MARTIN apparently owned a dry goods store in either Hamilton or Glendale - we assume Hamilton. While Dennis' obituary is nice, Martin's seems to literally glow with what a wonderful person he was, respected in the community, well known, and highly thought of.

Martin died of complications of an amputation of a leg in St. Joseph's Hospital in St. Paul.

Can someone give me some ideas if this was an official title, or just the way he was thought of? And are there any descendants of the gentleman still in the area?

Thanks for the help!

Patty Quinn

Dennis Quinn of Scott County/ brother Martin Quinn

In our research we have uncovered the following information and hope that there may be someone descended from these people:

In St. Patrick's Cemetery in Scott County, there is a family plot that contains my great great uncle William James Quinn, his two wives- Mary Jane McKenna and Mary Jane Gordon, and several of their children. Cemetery ID for all is 222 CE 17, and Section is 16.

Smack in the middle of them is buried a DENNIS QUINN, born 1838, died 21 December 1892. We have no further information.

It stands to reason that if this man is buried in a family plot, then he must have been family - we just currently have no idea who he could have been. Our fingers are crossed that he turns out to be a brother to our great grandfather, James Quinn.

We have also turned up information that there was a Martin Quinn who was the brother of Dennis. We have no further information on Martin, other than he appears (as does Dennis) in the Scott County 1870 and 1880 census records.

Is there anyone out there who might have any information on either of these men? Or possibly be related to them?

Our family came from the southwest area of County Donegal, general region of Ballintra, Rosilly Bar, Laghy, Stranass, and close by villages of that area.

ANY information would be extremely helpful to us!! Thank you in advance -

Patty Quinn Meigs

Seeking descendants of Thomas Charles McCollum, also known as Charles Coleman/Colman, and his wife, Sarah Samantha Porter, of Scott County. Charles was born as Thomas Charles McCollum on 24 January 1863, in Scott County, possibly in Spring Lake Township. His parents were William Munroe McCollum and Charlotte M. Grow. William McCollum served as a soldier during the Civil War and died from disease in 1864 in Indiana. In 1866, Charlotte McCollum married Joseph Coleman, who either adopted or raised Charles McCollum as his own son.

On 16 March 1883, in Jordan, Scott County, Minnesota, Charles Coleman married Sarah Samantha Porter. She was born about May 1864 in Minnesota and may have died 12 May 1910 in Scott County. Charles Coleman may have died
13 June 1930 in Scott County.

Charles and Samantha had at least seven children:
1. Frank J., born about April 1884, married about 1918 to Mary.
2. Thomas C., born about November 1885, married about 1915 to Ida.
3. George W., born about November 1889, married about 1920 to Anna.
4. Bessie, born about 1892, died before 1900.
5. Roy, born about December 1894.
6. As an alternative, if someone has information on how I can research Irish immigrants to Scott County, I would appreciate the help. I have hit a brickwall with this ancestor, and I am hoping to do two things: flesh out the details of this family (they had seven children that I know of), and trace the parents back to Ireland and hopefully earlier generations. Any help will be appreciated, and I am willing to share any and all details that I have already learned.

John and Shannon

I am researching the family of Michael Casey(b. 1823, Ireland) m. to Mary Howe (b.1840, Ireland). They settled as Irish pioneers in Scott County, founding members of St. Catherines Church. They had children Frank (b. 1859, adopted), Ellen(b. 1863), William (b. 1867), Charles (b. 1868), John (b. 1875), Martin (b. 1878) and two who died in childhood. I am looking for decendents of these children, particularly the girls, as I do not know their married names. I have some info. from census records on the children of some of the boys' families. I am decended from Frank Casey. Since Frank was adopted, I also wonder how to learn about the circumstances of that or where to locate any records of the adoption.
Jane
