Re: Maypark family name

Hi

Just noticed that in the 1885 MN Census. Jno and Gussie are listed as part of the family of Hy Gyer 37 born IA. His wife. Nancy. was born in GER. Is she related to Jno?
Also noticed that the 2 childern of Hy and Nancy were born in WI.
Looked for them in WI but did not see them, but boy did I see more than a few Mayparks.

This is all very interesting, I never thought of Jno as being John. The Maypark name is hard to trace, I've heard stories that it was changed when they came from Germany(Merbach or Mehrbach)but I'm not sure if this is true or how to spell it correctly.

I see a Bertha Gussie Maypark which could be Gussie with a BD of ~1870 and a death date of 17 Jan 1955. Also is Charles name spelled Platner or Plotner?

I'm not sure when Christian or Christena died and where they were buried. I was told a story once that there was a rift in the family, half stayed in Wisconsin and the remainder moved to Minnesota. I would really like to hear this story again.

Tavern licensing Ramsey Co / St Paul

My parents owned/operated 2 taverns in St Paul in late 1940's early 1950's. What city / county office might have information about licensing these taverns? One was "Tugboat Annie" on Navy Island in the Mississippi River in downtown St Paul, upstairs from the Minnesota Boat Club. Thanks, Lee

I have reason to believe that my gg grandfather, Nils Peter Lomell was in this same poorhouse and likely buried in this same cemetery after having died in 1882. Can you check in this book to see if his information is there?

I contacted the MNHS, the Ramsey County Historical Society and a handful of others a few years back when I first started looking at my g-g-grandfather's death, and even paid visits to a couple of them. They were interested, but ultimately had little in the way of info. (You can read more about the guy here, BTW: http://studio1050.blogspot.com/2010/10/what-i-dont-know-abou...)

I looked into the Poor Farm already--first burials there were in 1894, so no go--and it was actually the cemeteries site on USGENWEB that inspired me to post the inquiry here!

The ones that looked promising are:

Riverview Cem.- started by GER immigrants

West St. Paul 55118-0053
(The offices are located on the SOUTH side of Annapolis and therefore in Dakota Co., but the Cem. is located on the NORTH side of Annapolis and therefore in Ramsey Co)
However, it does not give date started.

Elmhurst Cem.-
1510 N. Dale
St. Paul
55117
I have ancestors buried there in 1885 (when it was known as German Lutheran Cem.)

Also listed is Ramsy Co. Poor Farm (started 1890). Says all graves are unmarked.

But, possibly the best place to contact is th Minnesota Histroical Society. http://www.mnhs.org/

Looking for Johann Hoefler burial place, 1891

My great-great grandfather, Johann Hoefler (sometimes Hoeffler or Hoffler) shot himself and died in St. Paul on 1 Jan 1891. We have no idea where he was buried, but at the time he was out of work and had been kicked out of a boarding house on West 7th. So it's likely he went into an unmarked pauper's grave somewhere in St. Paul. The Ramsey County Poor Farm cemetery was still a few years in the future, so I'm pretty sure he isn't there. Seems like the only way I might find him is via interment records, but not sure where to start. He was nominally Lutheran, and his wife had died 11 years earlier. (She's buried in Pine City.) Any help, advice or suggestions would be appreciated!

I am trying to find the Death Cert for a Wm H Russell born 1849 in Ohio. 1910 Census he is living in Itasca MN with wife Alice or Mary Alice Russell. 1920 Census they are in Ramsey MN. Wm worked as a switchman for the RR. After the 1920 I can't find any record of them. I think his parents were George Russell and Leanna or Eleanor Russell. Any ideas are appreciated. Thank you.

I found Annie [sic] COUGILL, b 719 Frank, in the 1900 St. Paul Directory.

No Ann(ie) found in the 1901 or subsequent directories.

Nothing found on Findagrave.com, the Minnesota Death Index at the Minnesota Historical Society, the Minnesota Official Marriage Index in case she remarried, nothing found in later census records using HeritageQuest (I assume you checked Ancestry.com).
